Next Stop: Cowboy Invite

Scotty freshman Kaden Zimmerman picked up a pin

over his opponent at 126 pounds in Tuesday nights
dual with Glendive. The Red Devils, currently ranked
third in the Class A ranks, would eventually defeat the
Scotties 40-30. It was a nice little warm-up for both
teams heading to Miles City on Friday for the always
tough Cowboy Invitational as the wrestling season
is already on the downhill swing. The Eastern B-C
Divisional to be held in Glasgow is less than a month
away, scheduled for Saturday, February 4th.

OBITUARY

Jackie Allen
Jackie Ann Allen, age
37, passed suddenly on
December 13, 2016, in
the Billings Hospital to
be with our Lord and
Savior. She left behind
her husband Mark Allen
and two children, Nathan
Allen, age 12, Soffie Ann,
age 7; and brother Mike Wilson & family.

Born on August 26, 1979, Jackie currently lived in
Brockway, Montana, leaving behind numerous family
members and friends who will always remember her
loving kindness and her ways of always making you
smile.

Jackie met Mark Allen in Superior, Montana,
where she was a CNA at the hospital. Ill never forget
when she came to our door, saying she needed to meet
my son. She saw him at the little grocery store, saying
he was the most handsomest man in the world. They
married June 21, 2003 and moved to Nashua, MT.

Jackie loved fishing, hunting, and just being with
her family. She loved the Lord very much and was
baptized in Glasgow at Calvary Baptist Church.

She had worked at Holiday here in Glasgow, as
well as at AgLand. They moved to Seeley Lake for awhile
and had returned to the Brockway area this summer.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist
Church in Glasgow on January 14, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.
with Pastor Eddie Smith officiating.

The Thomas Francis
Meagher Association has
announced details for the
upcoming MeagherFest 17.
This
international
history,
culture
and
arts
exchange
festival
commemorates the life and
legacy of Thomas Francis
Meagher, the Irish patriot
who became Montanas first
acting territorial governor.
(Hes the statue on the
Montana state capital lawn.)
Part I of the festival
opens in Waterford Ireland
(Meaghers birthplace, 1823)
March 3 5, 2017. Part II
concludes June 30 July 2
in Helena Montana, July
1 being the actual 150th
anniversary of Meaghers
mysterious disappearance in
Ft. Benton, 1867. He was not
quite 44 years old; his body
was never recovered.
Meaghers brief but
colorful life touches two
world cultures and touches
four continents. He was an
Irish nationalist and leader
of the Young Irelanders
in the Rebellion of 1848.
After being convicted
of sedition, he was first
sentenced to death, but
received
transportation
for life to Van Diemens
Land (now Tasmania)
in Australia. In 1852 he
escaped and made his
way to the United States,
where he settled in New
York City. There Meagher
studied law, worked as a
journalist, and traveled
to present lectures on the
Irish cause. He married for
a second time in New York.
At the beginning of
the American Civil War,
Meagher joined the U.S.
Army and rose to the rank

of brigadier general. He was

most notable for recruiting
and leading the Irish
Brigade, and encouraging

Irish
immigrants for the Union.
He had one surviving son,
born in Ireland from his first
wife after Meagher was in
the United States, and never
knew him.

Following the Civil War,
Meagher was appointed
acting governor of the
Montana Territory. In 1867,
Meagher drowned in the

Missouri
River after falling from a
steamboat at Fort Benton.
Timothy Egan, author of a
2016 biography on Meagher,
has suggested that the
governor was murdered by
Montana opponents.
His legacy remains as
relevant today as a century

Montana. His legislation,
often bitterly contested,

Park,
the
Montana National Guard,
religious and education
reform, Native American
relations and ultimately,
