How serious are we about worship? There can be a
tendency to look at worship with the Body of Christ
simply as another Christian activity. Research shows
the average Christian attends church about one out of
four Sundays. The writer of Hebrews gives a strong call
to perseverance (10:25). Let us not give up meeting
together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another-and all the more as you see the
Day approaching. Someone has said, Sporadic worship
leads to sporadic faith. The call to each of us to follow
Christ in this life is significant. Jesus went to synagogue
and Temple regularly as was his custom. Worship is
not a noun, but a verb. Its not something you watch, its
something you do. It is an expression of a relationship
to God and to the Body of Christ. It is like nothing else
that we do. It is the expression of what we value most.
Christianity is about community, so when we are in
worship, we are not a group of individuals each with a
one-on-one relationship with God, but rather an individual
part of a mass community expressing themselves as one.
We cannot do that as individuals. The intermingling is
essential in worship. Its the difference between a bowl
of marbles and a bowl of grapes. With a bowl of marbles,
they only touch each other at one tiny point, whereas
with a bowl of grapes, they are in much more contact
with each other. We are the grapes! Worship is the one
thing we do on earth that well do in heaven. It is the most
significant thing we do on earth. Glad you are here!
