REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

In this lesson we will learn the following:

1. The structure of the reproductive system.
2. The function of the reproductive system.
3. Spiritual lessons that this system teaches us.

When Adam was created it didn’t take long,

As he surveyed creation to realize what’s wrong.
For he found that each beast had it’s own loving mate,
But he stood all alone in a sinless pure state.
“Lay down on the ground,” God said to the man,
“For a have an idea, it’s a wonderful plan”.
To give you a helper to stand by your side,
That radiates with beauty, I’ll make her your bride.
Adams heart did pound and he nearly did weep,
And hurried to obey and lie down to sleep.
Dreaming of the women that the future would bring,
That would fulfil his desires and cause him to sing.
Arising from slumber stood his most glorious wife,
The most beautiful creation he had seen in his life.
She gave him a smile and took his strong hand,
And called for a wedding and wow was it grand.
But alas did his wife tend to stray from his side
And then they were naked and wanted to hide
But God provided a way to cover their shame
Even when they denied to take all the blame
The promise was given of the seed that one day
Would suffer their punishment that they never could pay
Though the man was instructed it would cost him much toil
To provide for his family as he ploughed up the soil
And the wife would have sorrow, when her child she would bare
But in raising them also, would be wrought with much care
Through their delicate organs would the promise give birth
To make all men know what God thinks they’re worth

The reproductive system tells us many wonderful things of the born again experience, that each child
of God goes through when he or she is converted. Through this system we can learn much about the
process of conversion, and that part which we have to play, as well as the greatest part which God has
to play.

1. THE STRUCTURE OF THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM:

The male structures of reproduction include the testes, ductus epididymus, ductus (vas deferens),
ejaculation duct, urethra, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, bulbourethal (Cowper’s) glands, and penis.
The female reproductive organs include the ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina, and vulva. The
mammary glands are also considered to be part of the reproductive system.
Reproduction is the mechanism by which life is sustained, and it was through this system that God decided
to save mankind as well as perpetuate the human race.

It is recorded in the beginning, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created He
him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them and God said unto them, “Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth.” Genesis 1.27,28.

Due to sin however, changes were experienced within this system for the women, and recorded by the
following words. “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth
children…” Gen 3.16

What was to have been a painless childbirth, became a bitter experience as a result of sin intertwined in
fallen nature. Though man sinned and was doomed to die, yet the promise of hope was given. “I will put
enmity between thee and the women, and between thy seed and her seed, it shall bruise thy head, and thou
shalt bruise His heel.” Gen 3.15

Satan well knew that God was not going to let Satan have full control over man, though he was he was in a
fallen state. Through man would come the promised Savior that would separate mankind from the powers
of darkness. Generation after generation were given the hope that one day a baby would be born that
would bring salvation unto men. Recorded in prophetic history the inspiring words, “Therefore the Lord
himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name
Emmanuel.” Isa. 7.14. What does this name mean? “...Which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Matthew 1.23.

One of the greatest mysteries and yet one of the greatest revelations that has ever been given to man is God
in the flesh! Born as a baby, through a lowly woman in the midst of a manger. No grander love story
could ever be told than this; that the Creator took upon Himself the form of the created, the flesh and bones
of mortal man. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called
the sons of God.” 1 John.3.1.

Just as a child is born as a result of a very personal and intimate relationship, so too is the new birth
experience. The closeness that God wants us to have with Himself is as close as the relationship that we
may have with our spouse.

This systems greatest lesson is this about Christ being formed within us, as was the hope of the most
illustrious Paul, who said to the Galatian church: “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until
Christ be formed in you,” Gal.4.19.

EJACULATORY DUCT: The ejaculatory duct is a short tubule located just above the prostate
gland. It is formed by the connection of the vas deferens and the seminal vesicles, and serves to
transport spermatozoa through the prostate gland and into the urethra.

BULBOURETHRAL GLANDS: The bulbourethral (Cowper's) glands are two pea-sized lobes
connecting to the side of the urethra, responsible for secreting a lubricant into the urethra to facilitate
the transport of spermatozoa during ejaculation.

CORPORA: The corpora of the urethra is the body of the urethral tube. The urethra passes from the
base of the bladder, through the corpus cavernosa of the penis, and terminating in the urethral meatus
(opening) at the apex of the glans of the penis. The urethra in the male body carries both urine (from
the bladder) and semen (from the ejaculatory ducts) to the exterior of the body.

EPIDIDYMIS: The epididymides (plural for epididymis) are narrow, elongated storage vessels for
newly generated spermatozoa. They are located within the scrotum, adjoining each testicle.
Spermatozoa remain in the cord-like epididymides until ejaculation, at which time they eject them into
the vas deferens.

CORPUS CAVERNOSA OF PENIS: The corpus cavernosa are made of spongy tissue which fill
with blood during sexual arousal. As the blood fills these tissues, the penis begins to expand and
become firm, and this condition is known as an erection. The erection facilitates the ejaculational
transport of the semen to the female's vagina.

SCROTUM: The scrotum is a cutaneous outpouching of the abdomen consisting of loose skin and
superficial fascia. It is the supporting structure for the testes. Externally it looks like a small pouch of
skin separated into lateral portions by a medium ridge called the raphe. Internally it is divided by a
septum into two sacs, each containing a single testes.

The location of the scrotum and contraction of its muscle fibers regulate the temperature of the testes.
The production and survival of sperm require a temperature that is lower than body temperature.
Because the scrotum is outside the body cavities, it supplies an environment about 3˚C below body
temperature. The cremaster muscle, a small circular band of skeletal muscle moves them closer to the
pelvic cavity to absorb body heat when they are cooled, as well as reversing the process when too hot.

Sperm is sometimes referred to in the Bible as seed, Gen.38.9, and it is another term that is also used in
reference to the Word of God, Luke.8.11. This is because they have a common function, that is to
produce children. In order for a woman to conceive a child it takes much more than one sperm, it takes
usually hundreds of millions that are released into the woman’s vagina. Just think that you and I were
just one out of hundreds of millions of other sperms that made it into that egg before any one else.
That alone is an incredible victory that God gave us! Jesus said “Strait is the gate, and narrow is the
way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matt.7.14. Although this is talking about
the way to eternal life, we can also apply this principle to the sperm, “For many are called but few are
chosen.” Matt.22.14.

The female reproductive system is responsible for generating the ovum, or egg, for storing the
fertilized ovum, and nourishing the gestating embryo and fetus. The chief organs include the ovaries,
the uterus, vagina, and the fallopian tubes. External (vulva) organs include the labia majora, the labia
minora, the mons pubis, the clitoris, the vestibule, and the greater vestibular cleft. The ovum, or egg,
contains the female's contribution to the genetic make-up of the new child, and is generated in the
ovaries. The newly generated ovum is passed through the fimbriated extremity of a fallopian tube,
into the fallopian tube and there is fertilized by a spermatozoon (sperm cell). During sexual arousal, a
fluid created by the male's seminal vesicles and the prostate gland combine with the sperm cells to
create semen, which is carried through the urethra and out of the opening, or meatus, in the end of the
erect penis. When the semen is deposited in the female vagina, the spermatozoa swims through the
uterus to the fallopian tube, where it fertilizes the ovum, or egg. The fertilized egg travels down the
fallopian tube within the next three days and becomes attached to the wall of the uterus (womb).
There, during pregnancy, the fertilized egg will be nourished and will develop into the embryo and,
later, the fetus. Once fully developed (after about 9 months), muscular contractions (labor) will push
the fetus out of the womb.
FALLOPIAN TUBES: The fallopian tubes (also called oviducts) are the transport tubes through
which the egg, or ovum, passes to the uterus. When the ovary erupts a new egg, it travels through the
fimbriated extremity and into a fallopian tube. There, it is fertilized by the spermatozoon (sperm cell)
which has been donated by the male. The fertilized ovum, called a zygote, then travels down the
fallopian tube, propelled by cilia which line the tube, to the uterus. The tubes are named after Gabriele
Fallopio, who was among the first to study their function.

FIMBRIATED EXTREMITY: The fimbriated extremity is the fringe-like structure at the end of
each fallopian tube. The newly generated ovum, or egg, enters this extremity to travel down the
fallopian tube, where it will be fertilized by a spermatozoon (sperm cell).

CORPUS LUTEUM: Once a graafian follicle discharges its mature ovum, the cavity once occupied
by the egg is replaced by luteal cells made of a yellow lipoid material. Together, the erupted graafian
follicle and its clot of luteal cells compose the corpus luteum. If the ovum is fertilized, the corpus
luteum will eventually create hormones which regulate the development of the placenta, the
suppression of menstruation, the growth of the mammary glands, and the eventual development of
more mature ova. If the ovum is not fertilized, the corpus luteum will become interpenetrated by blood
capillaries and will eventually disintegrate to leave a small scar tissue called the corpus albicans. In
these terms, luteum means yellow, while albicans means white.

FUNDUS UTERI: The fundus uteri is the body of the uterus, or womb, and is the portion of the
female reproductive tract which serves to house and nourish the developing embryo and fetus. The
uterus is a thick-walled organ, which connects with the fallopian tubes and extends, as the cervix does,
into the vagina. During menstruation, the mucous lining of the uterus, called the endometrium,
becomes thicker and more convoluted. This change is so that a fertilized egg, or zygote, will have a
thick, supportive layer on which to become attached. During the destructive, or last, phase of the
menstrual cycle, if the egg has not been fertilized, the endometrium is shed and expelled out of the
uterus by contractions of the myometrium, or muscular wall. These contractions and the subsequent
shedding of the endometrial layer, account for the cramps, hormonal shifts, and fluid loss during this
menstrual phase. Because the endometrium is high in vascularity (density of blood vessels), its
shedding causes some blood to be lost from the hemorrhaged superficial vessels. Blood accounts for
the lesser part of fluid discharged, however, as most of it is mucosal lining. Following menopause, the
uterus atrophies, while the ovaries become much less active in producing hormones, making
menopause a most dramatic physiological change in the life of the adult female

EXTERNAL OS: The external os is a small, circular opening of the cervix where it projects into the
vagina. It is distinguished from the internal os, which is the internal opening from the lower part of the
uterus into the cervix. The term os is used to mean "mouth" in these examples.

CERVIX: The cervix is the neck of the uterus, leading from the lower part of the uterus and
projecting into the vagina. Its upper opening is called the internal os, while its lower, vaginal opening,
is called the external os.

VAGINA: The vagina is a canal which extends from the cervix to the external genitalia, terminating
in the vaginal vestibule. The urethra opens into the vaginal wall in a slit-like aperture in the female.
The walls of the vagina are usually between 3-4 inches (7-10 cm) long, with the anterior wall being
slightly shorter than the posterior wall. The walls are covered with a mucous membrane, and a fold of
this membrane, called the hymen, may occlude the lower opening of the vagina. The fibrous, muscular
walls of the vagina are capable of dilating and expanding dramatically during childbirth.

LABIA MAJORA: The labia majora are the large folds of skin which compose the external border of
the vestibule of the vagina. The labia majora extend sagittally from the mons pubis to the anus.

In the Word of God there are many texts about the womb, which is the place of fetal development
where the baby grows until conception. Let’s just take a few minutes to see what lessons we can learn
about the womb from the Bible.

We are told that God made and fashioned us in the womb, Job 31.15. Therefore it is not the act of man
and woman alone that brings about life, but is a miracle of God which we are privileged enough to take
a part in. It is amazing to think that men and woman have a part to play in creating life through the
power and Spirit of God!

Not only did God create us in the womb, but He also took us from the womb, Psalm 22.9.

The Bible teaches us that “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they are
born,” Psalm 58.3. But this is not so for the righteous, for the firstborn of the children of Israel were to
be sanctified (set apart for holy use) from the womb. Exo.13.2. As also was the prophet Jeremiah
before he was born. “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out
of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jer.1.5.

The Bible speaks of the womb as bringing forth fruit, “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and
the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psa.127.3 When the children of Israel were fruitful they brought
forth lots of children, “And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and
multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.” Exo.1.7. This promise
was based on the condition of obedience: “add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to
knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness
brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they
make you that ye shall neither be BARREN nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ,”
2Pet.1.5-8.

It was God’s plan for there to be no woman that could not conceive a child, “There shall not be male or
female barren among you…”Deut.7.14. But to those who were barren did God sometimes bless in
remarkable ways, bringing forth a child in a miraculous manner, examples include Elizabeth, Luke.1.7.
Hannah, 1Sam.1.5,20. Sarai, Gen.11.30. Rebekah, Gen.25.21. Rachel Gen.29.31. Manoah‘s wife,
Judg.13.2,3.

Out of these once barren wombs came forth, John the Baptist, Samuel, Isaac, Esau & Jacob, Joseph,
Benjamin, and Samson. These are some of the greatest men that ever lived and testify to the fact that
God can bring forth fruit out of barren ground.

“There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough: The grave; and
the barren womb…” Pro.30.15,16

If a woman can‘t have a child, God has given to her some beautiful words of encouragement. “Sing, O
barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with
child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.”
Isa.54.1

In this time of modern science, with incredibly complex and intricate technology, man still can’t
answer the simple question of, “How does a child form in the womb.” God says, “Thou knowest not
what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so
thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.” Eccl.11.5. The development of life is as much a
mystery to us today as it has ever been, and testifies to the fact of a marvelous creator God.

The most tenderest earthly bond formed on the face of the earth is between a mother and her child, and
yet the ties of love that God has towards each one of his children are stronger than this. “Can a woman
forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may
forget, yet will I not forget thee.” Isa.49.15. If you have a child wouldn’t you give up your life for it?
Would you give up your only child so that another child might live though? That is a greater love, and
it was this kind of love that led the Father to exchange the death of mankind for the death of His Son.
Don’t you think that it would have been a struggle for God to do something like that, to save a
wretched sinner like you and I? It was just as much pain for the father than it was for the Son to give
up that holy life for a polluted one as yours and mine.

MENSTRUATION:

The menstrual cycle is a series of changes in the endometrium of a non-pregnant female. Each month
the endometrium is prepared to receive an already fertilized ovum that eventually normally develops
into an embryo, and then into a fetus until delivery. If no fertilization occurs, the stratum functionalis
portion of the endometrium is shed. The ovarian cycle is a monthly series of events associated with
the maturation of an ovum.

HORMONAL CONTROL:

The menstrual cycle, ovarian cycle, and other changes associated with puberty in the female are
controlled by a regulating factor from the hypothalamus called gonadtropin releasing factor (GnRF).
GnRF stimulates the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary. FSH
stimulates the initial development of the ovarian follicles and the secretion of estrogens by the follicles.
GnRF also stimulates the release of another pituitary hormone – the luteinizing hormone (LH), which
stimulates the further development of ovarian follicles, bringing about ovulation, and stimulates the
production of estrogens, progesterone, and relaxin by ovarian cells.

ESTROGENS:

The hormones of growth, have three main functions. First is the development and maintenance of
female production, and maintenance of female reproductive structures, especially the lining of the
uterus, secondary sex characteristics, and breasts. The secondary sex characteristics include fat
distribution to the breasts, abdomen, mons pubis, and hips; voice pitch; broad pelvis; and hair pattern.
Secondly they control fluid and electrolyte balance. Thirdly, they increase protein anabolism. In this
regard, estrogens are synergistic with growth hormone (GH). High levels of estrogens in the blood
inhibit the release of GnRF by the hypothalamus, which in turn inhibits the secretion of FSH by the
anterior pituitary gland. This inhibition provides the basis for the action of one kind of contraception
pill.
PROGESTERONE: This is the hormone of maturation, which works with estrogens to prepare the
endometrium for implantation of a fertilized ovum and the mammary glands for milk secretion. High
levels of progesterone also inhibit GnRF and prolactin (PRL). Progesterone, like estrogen, is
synthesized from cholesterol or acetyl coenzyme A in the ovaries.

RELAXIN: This hormone goes into operation near the end of pregnancy. It relaxes the symphysis
pubis and helps dilate the uterine cervix to facilitate delivery. The hormone also plays a role in
increasing sperm motility.

The Word of God is very particular in cleanliness, and was no less the case with reference to hygienic
laws that were required to be kept by His people to preserve their health and prevent disease.

Men were considered to be unclean who had sexual relations with their wife while she was going
through menstruation. “And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers (menstruation) be upon
him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.” Lev.15.24.
And the woman herself was considered unclean also at that time, and strict hygienic laws were
required to be observed.

“And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run
beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of
her separation: she shall be unclean. Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto
her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness
of her separation. And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes,
and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.” Lev.15.25 – 27.

There was a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years that came to Jesus to be healed of her
infirmities, lets take a look at how she was healed of her sickness.

“And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians,
neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and
immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter
and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou,
Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of
me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him,
she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was
healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee
whole; go in peace.” Luke 8.43-48.

What was so special about the border of the garment? “Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them
that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that
they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye
may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye
seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring.” Num.15.38,39.

By laying hold upon the border of Jesus’ garment she was laying hold upon the conditions whereby
she could be healed, and it was by faith in His Word that she was made whole. Disease comes as a
violation of God’s law, Ex 15.26, and it therefore needs to be kept in order to reverse the diseased
condition. But how can a lawless man or woman keep God’s holy laws? We must lay hold of Christ’s
garment. His perfect robe of righteousness, that has no stain of sin upon it. As also will the last
generation of God’s obedient children, His final church: “And to her was granted that she should be
arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” Rev.19.8

In order to be cleansed of our issue of blood spiritually, which is cleansing from sin, we need to ask
Jesus to wash our character by confession of sin, just as it was required to wash the filthy garment
Lev.15.21, and secondly allow the Word of God to cleanse you, “That he might sanctify and cleanse it
with the washing of water by the word.” Eph.5.26

PREGNANCY: Pregnancy is the condition characterized by the presence of a developing offspring

within the uterus. It forms as a result of a union of an egg cell and a sperm cell, which is called
fertilization.

In the Bible the word sperm is termed seed, Gen.38.9, the manna that came from heaven was like seed,
Exo.16.31, and God’s Word is likened to seed as well, “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word
of God.” Luke.8.11.

Just as a man impregnates a woman with the seed (sperm) to bring forth children, so too does God
want to impregnate the church with His Word that it bring forth children into the kingdom of God.
However first there has to be a union between God and His people as intimate as a husband and wife,
though it be of a different nature than sexual intimacy.

Definition: “Union with Christ means the dispensing of his blessings.”-- S. of T., 1895, No. 37
HL.276.

Process of development: “Our prayers are to be as earnest and persistent as was the petition of the
needy friend who asked for the loaves at midnight. The more earnestly and steadfastly we ask, the
closer will be our spiritual union with Christ. We shall receive increased blessings because we have
increased faith.” COL.146.

Growth depends on union: “Many have an idea that they must do some part of the work alone. They
have trusted in Christ for the forgiveness of sin, but now they seek by their own efforts to live aright.
But every such effort must fail. Jesus says, "Without Me ye can do nothing." Our growth in grace,
our joy, our usefulness,--all depend upon our union with Christ. It is by communion with Him,
daily, hourly,--by abiding in Him, --that we are to grow in grace. He is not only the Author, but the
Finisher of our faith. It is Christ first and last and always. He is to be with us, not only at the beginning
and the end of our course, but at every step of the way. David says, "I have set the Lord always before
me: because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved." Psalm 16:8. SC.069.

Since only the sperm that forms a union with the egg grows into a developing offspring, we can
confidently say from scripture that the same is true spiritually, that our growth is dependent upon our
union with Christ.

There are up to hundreds of millions of sperm that make a valiant attempt to impregnate the egg,
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may
obtain.” 1Cor.9.24. Jesus said, “...Many be called, but few chosen.” Matt.20.16. “Because strait is the
gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matt.7.14. The
objective of the sperm is to reach the egg, and our objective in this life is to reach for Christ, but even
that is not enough. Many sperm cells reach the egg but do not enter the egg, it is only the sperm that
enters the egg that preserves its life. “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved...”
John.10.9. It takes faith to enter Christ, perseverance, and determination that is driven by a soul
hunger for union with Christ. If the sperm fail to enter the egg they will die, and such will be the result
of not entering a union with Christ by faith, we will perish on the outside, like all the wicked outside
the walls of Jerusalem when it will be too late to enter. “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time
accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold,
now is the day of salvation.)” 2Cor.6.2

Transportation of Sex cells: Ordinarily, before fertilization can occur, an egg cell (secondary oocyte)
must be released by the process of ovulation and transported into the uterine tube by the help of
ciliated epithelium lining the tube.

SEXUAL RELATION:

The words “Knew his wife…” Gen.4.1. relate to the sexual relationship that a man has with his wife, are
also used in reference to God, but it is only a few that really do know God. “He was in the world, and the
world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” John.1.10. “And this is life eternal, that they might
know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John.17.3

How do we know Him? The Bible doesn’t leave us in any doubt as to how we know God, “And be found
in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of
Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection,
and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” Phil.3.9,10. It is faith in
Christ and His righteousness that we know God, being manifest by His Word that is born in us.

As we go through this lesson ask yourself, “Do I really know God? Is He the supreme ruler in my heart?
Is there anything between me and my Savior? Does my soul long after Him with such intensity that I
would rather die than commit any known sin? Do I see my sin exceeding that of the grace and
righteousness of my Savior? Friends you we need to be honest with ourselves, and with our God! Are we
following God for the fishes and the loaves or for the love that He bestows?

The male reproductive system is responsible for generating, storing, and transporting the genetic
material contained in the sperm cells, or spermatozoa. The chief organs include the testicles (or testes),
the epididymis, the vas deferens, the ejaculatory duct, the urethra, and the penis. Auxiliary organs
include the bulbourethral (Cowper's) glands, the prostate gland, and the seminal vesicles. Spermatozoa
(sperm cells) contain the chromosomes which will combine with those of the ovum, or egg (produced
by the female reproductive system), to form the embryo of a new human. These spermatozoa are
generated within the testicles and stored within the epididymides. During sexual arousal, a fluid
created by the seminal vesicles and the prostate gland combines with the sperm cells to create semen,
which is carried through the urethra and out of the opening, or meatus, in the end of the erect penis.
When the semen is deposited in the female vagina, the spermatozoa swim through the uterus (by
lashing movements of the sperms tail) to the fallopian tube, where one, or more, may fertilize an egg,
or ovum.

SEXUAL UNFAITHFULNESS: Read carefully the following verses: “Speak unto the children of
Israel, and say unto them, If any man's wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him, And a man lie
with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and
there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner; And the spirit of jealousy come
upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him,
and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled: Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest,
and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil
upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial,
bringing iniquity to remembrance. And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:
And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the
tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water: And the priest shall set the woman before the
LORD, and uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the
jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse: And the
priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou
hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter
water that causeth the curse: But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou
be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband: Then the priest shall charge the
woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse
and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell; And
this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to
rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he
shall blot them out with the bitter water: And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that
causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter. Then the
priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the
LORD, and offer it upon the altar: And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the
memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and
have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and
become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among
her people. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive
seed. This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is
defiled; Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set
the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law. Then shall the man be
guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.” Num.5.12-31.

This is a very interesting chapter about marital unfaithfulness and reveals a lot about the nature of this
sin. We can see this story in two ways, the earthly relationship between a husband and wife, and also
the relationship between the church and Christ. In this story Christ is the husband and also the high
priest, we are married to him and He is a jealous God, and longs for our supreme affection that will not
be shared by anyone else. “...For I the LORD thy God am a jealous God...” Deut.5.9. “Turn, O
backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and
two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:” Jer.3.14

Sexual unfaithfulness can be likened to that of our unfaithfulness to God in setting our affections
greater on something or someone else. God wants us to identify with His feelings of hurt when we sin
against Him by comparing it with the sexual union of two people with someone that is not their spouse.

In the story the belly would swell, (the belly is represented as the seat of emotions Pro.18.8) signifying
the painful feelings that is experienced through adulterous relations. The thigh would rot, because the
thigh represents an oath, Gen.24.2,3, which symbolizes the marriage oath that is made between a man
and woman, or Christ and His church, maybe that is why we have two thigh bones, one representing
our oath to God, and the other our oath to our partner.

Sexual intercourse with someone other than your spouse is one of the most hardest sins to heal and
leaves scares for the rest of ones life, though the sin is forgiven. “But whoso committeth adultery with
a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.” Pro.6.32 “Behold, I will
cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of
their deeds.” Rev.2.22

In the old testament adultery carried the penalty of death, “And the man that committeth adultery with
another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the
adulteress shall surely be put to death.” Lev.20.10. God hasn’t changed his mind, “Jesus Christ the
same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Heb.13.8. It still requires a death penalty of the
transgressor, “For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived,
and I died.” Rom.7.9 “For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Rom.6.7

FERTILIZATION: When a sperm cell has finally reached the egg, it tries to penetrate it through the
follicular cells that adhere to the egg’s surface (corona radiata) as well as the zona pelucida that
surrounds the egg cell membrane. The sperm is aided through the cell by an enzyme (hyaluronidase),
which is secreted by the acrosome of the sperm.

When the sperm cell gets inside the cell the covering becomes impenetrable to any other sperm cells,
as the cell membrane becomes changed due to the enzymes that are secreted by the sperm cell inside
the egg. These enzymes keep other sperm cells from attaching to the membrane.

Just think friends that you and I made it to that egg cell despite over a hundred million other sperm
cells reaching for that prize! Isn’t that a grand feat in itself, and worthy of much praise to God!!! “By
thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my
praise shall be continually of thee.” Psa.71.6

Once inside the cytoplasm within the membrane of the cell the sperm loses its tail and its head swells
to form a nucleus. The next thing is just so amazing friends, the sperm and the nucleus of the egg
unite, the membranes disappear and the genetic material combines together (completing the process of
fertilization) and from that point on the character, appearance and structure is formed. It is indeed a
mysterious thing, but there is something that is even more mysterious than this, “Even the mystery
which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom
God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is
Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Col.1.26,27.

Both the sperm cell and the egg cell provide twenty three chromosomes, which combined make forty
six chromosomes, which is the usual number of a human cell. This cell is called a zygote, and is the
first cell of our origins.

Early Embryonic Development: It isn’t long after the zygote is formed that it starts to divide itself,
this process is known as mitosis. Two cells divide into four cells, and four into eight, eight into
sixteen, and so on. As the cells divide they get smaller and smaller, this phase of development is
known as cleavage.

The tiny mass of cells migrate through the uterine tube to the cavity of the uterus, which takes about
three days. At the end of this time it appears as a solid ball (morula) made up of about sixteen cells.

PRENATAL INFLUENCES: “Fathers as well as mothers are involved in this responsibility, and
they too should seek earnestly for divine grace, that their influence may be such as God can approve.
The inquiry of every father and mother should be, "What shall we do unto the child that shall be born?"
By many the effect of prenatal influence has been lightly regarded; but the instruction sent from
heaven to those Hebrew parents, and twice repeated in the most explicit and solemn manner, shows
how the matter is looked upon by the Creator.” ST.1902-02-26.015

“Upon fathers as well as mothers rests a responsibility for the child's earlier as well as its later training,
and for both parents the demand for careful and thorough preparation is most urgent. Before taking
upon themselves the possibilities of fatherhood and motherhood, men and women should become
acquainted with the laws of physical development--with physiology and hygiene, with the bearing of
prenatal influences, with the laws of heredity, sanitation, dress, exercise, and the treatment of disease;
they should also understand the laws of mental development and moral training.” ED.276.

The outer cells of the embryo as well as the cells of the maternal endometrium form a complex
vascular structure called the placenta. This organ serves to attach the embryo to the uterine wall, to
exchange gases, nutrients, and wastes between the maternal bleed and the embryonic blood, and to
secrete hormones. Because the fetus receives blood from the mother, and the life of the mother is in
the blood, then her character is transferable to her offspring through the blood. Not all of her character
traits are transferable, as the fathers traits also have united to that of the mothers through the
chromosomal unification at conception. The moods of the mother during pregnancy have an influence
on the development of the child through the hormones and lay the foundation for the formation of
character. Negative emotions should be avoided, trauma, stress, unhealthful foods, over-activity and
intemperance should be strictly guarded against, especially at this time.

HERIDITY: “Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that
will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the
children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” Exo.34.7

Character Transmitted: “It will be well to remember that tendencies of character are transmitted
from parents to children. Meditate seriously upon these things, and then in the fear of God gird on the
armor for a life conflict with hereditary tendencies, imitating none but the divine Pattern.” 4T.438.

Disease Transmitted: “As a rule every intemperate man who rears children transmits his inclinations
and evil tendencies to his offspring ; he gives them disease from his own inflamed and corrupted
blood. Licentiousness, disease, and imbecility are transmitted as an inheritance of woe from father to
son, and from generation to generation, and this brings anguish and suffering into the world.”--
HL.057.

Responsibility of parents for children’s heridity: Their parents were accountable in a great degree
for the characters developed by their children, which are transmitted from generation to generation.
RH.1899-07-04.

What we sow we reap: “Wherever the habits of the parents are contrary to physical law, the injury
done to themselves will be repeated in future generations.”-- U. T., Jan. 11, 1897. HL.018.

A Solemn thought: “...Our moral and physical qualities are transmitted from generation to generation,
and that we are all more or less responsible for the lives which may spring from ours. That all our
actions, from childhood up, are laying the foundation not only of our own character, but of future
generation yet unborn?” HR.1873-01-01.011
Evil Heredity Traits must be put away: Those who reign with Christ in his kingdom must have a
fellowship in his suffering. Every defect in character condemned by the law of God, must through the
grace of Christ, which is freely given to every soul who desires it, be overcome. Every hereditary and
cultivated tendency to evil must be seen, subdued, and cleansed, that the soul temple may become fit
for the indwelling of the Spirit of God. ST.1895-07-18.

Every Heridity Defect can be Overcome through the Power of Christ: “Those who put their trust
in Christ are not to be enslaved by any hereditary or cultivated habit or tendency. Instead of being held
in bondage to the lower nature, they are to rule every appetite and passion. God has not left us to battle
with evil in our own finite strength. Whatever may be our inherited or cultivated tendencies to
wrong, we can overcome through the power that He is ready to impart.” MH.175.

Christ Accepted the Results of law of Heredity: “It would have been an almost infinite humiliation
for the Son of God to take man's nature, even when Adam stood in his innocence in Eden. But Jesus
accepted humanity when the race had been weakened by four thousand years of sin. Like every child
of Adam He accepted the results of the working of the great law of heredity. What these results were
is shown in the history of His earthly ancestors. He came with such a heredity to share our sorrows and
temptations, and to give us the example of a sinless life.” DA.048.

Case Study of the Great Workings of the laws of Heredity: “And it came to pass in an eveningtide,
tohat David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he
saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and
inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah
the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her;
for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.” 2Sam.11.2-4

Result of David’s sin Through Heredity: Case no. 1: “And it came to pass after this, that Absalom
the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon
thought it hard for him to do any thing to her. And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the
chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought
them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he
took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister. 2Sam.13.1,2,10,11.

Case no. 2 “So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his
father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.” 2Sam.16.22

Case no. 3: “But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh,
women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; Of the nations concerning
which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in
unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned
away his heart.” 1King.11.1-3.

Here we see the result of the great workings of the laws of heredity through David’s sin. The results of
his sin spread much broader than those stated in the above verses, and led to much blood being shed.
Please note that God doesn’t bring the penalty on the breaker of law, but they are wrought out as a
natural consequence of breaking the law. Just as trying to break the law of gravity by jumping off the
top of a house brings a sure result of pain and possibly death, so too does breaking the laws of God that
set up a hereditary tendency for evil. In other words, God doesn’t bring the curse, it is in built into the
violation, and as a result of breaking the laws that He has established, there has to be consequences to
the action.

Who is responsible: Children are not responsible for the sins of their parents, only as they partake of
them. “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death
for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.” Deut.24.16. We are however
responsible for the cultivation of our hereditary, or the feeding of it.

Sins of fathers confessed: “And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood
and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.” Neh.9.2

“O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away
from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers,
Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.” Dan.9.16

We may ask why it was that the sins of the fathers was confessed if their sin is not transferable to the
children. The disposition of sin is transferable to the children, however the sin that results in guilt is
not, unless the same sin is perpetuated. By acknowledging the sins of the fathers it shows that we have
the same tendency in us to commit the same sins that they did, therefore it confesses ones weakness
and demonstrates a distrust of self.

Embryonic Stage of Development: “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy
book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none
of them.” Psa.139.16.

Isn’t that just amazing friends! This verse tells us a lot more than we may realize. It says that our
members (body parts) are written in God’s book, what book is that? “And there shall in no wise enter
into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which
are written in the Lamb's book of life.” Rev.21.27. That means friends that even a developing child in
the womb that is not perfect can enter heaven. Why is abortion considered such an offense by God?
Because it is taking the life of a child! The life of even an undeveloped child can be saved by God,
that is good news isn’t it, “Praise the name of God!”

In learning the development of the embryo we can also learn the development of the Christian into the
likeness of Christ, and though we may be unperfect (as is used in the KJV) we are perfect in Christ,
and are continually being molded and shaped into His image. “Being confident of this very thing, that
he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Phil.1.6

The embyronic stage extends from the second week until the eighth week and is characterized by the
formation of the placenta, the development of the main internal organs, and the appearance of the
major external body structures.

Early in this stage of development, the cells of the inner cell mass become organized into a flattened
embryonic disk consisting of two layers, an outer ectoderm and an inner endoderm. Not long after a
third layer of cells forms, the mesoderm, which appears between the other two layers.

It is not until about the fourth week that the embryo takes recognizable shape. By this time, the head
and jaws are appearing, and the heart is beating and sending blood through the blood vessels. It is
interesting to note that One of the first things that starts to take shape in a Christian is the heart.
Structurally it is the same of course but spiritually it is being formed and bearing the image of its
creator. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away
the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” Eze.36.26

From the fifth to the seventh week the head grows rapidly, becoming rounded and erect. The face
becomes more human like due to the development of the eyes, nose and mouth. The arms and legs
become elongated and fingers and toes start to appear.

By the end of the seventh week, all the main internal organs have become established, and these
structures increase in size and affect the shape of the body.

It is indeed a mystery how these things take place, and even greater one is the new birth experience
that is constantly forming a new creature in Christ through the power of His Word and life working in
you.

FETAL STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT: “Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did
not one fashion us in the womb?” Job.31.15. This stage commences at the end of the eight week of
development and continues until the time of birth. This time is the period of growth and maturity, and
only a few new body parts appear.

The nine months of pregnancy that a woman experiences can be likened to the time of the church
(represented by the woman, Jer. 6:2) nurturing a new believer in Christ. During this time the
developing child of God is to be nourished by the church, being fed and nourished through the blood of
Christ that unites the church to the newly developing Christian, just as the mother feeds the offspring
in her womb which is united to her by the placenta. It is a time of great growth and many changes take
place in the life of one that is newly growing in Christ.

The following is the stages of development in the mothers womb, each month of development is a
lunar month and comprises 28 days.

Third Month: Growth is accelerated, the arms achieve relative length that they will stay their whole
life, and ossification centers start to appear in most of the bones. By the twelfth week the reproductive
organs are distinguished and become recognizable.

“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:”
Eph.4.15.

Fourth Month: In the fourth month the body grows very rapidly reaching a length of about 13-17
centimeters. The legs lengthen considerably and the skeleton continues to ossify.

Fifth Month: Growth decreases somewhat, the legs achieve their final proportions, and the skeletal
muscles become active, at which time the mother may feel movements. Hair starts to appear on the
head and the skin is coated with a cheesy mixture of seum from the sebaceous glands and dead
epidermal cells.

Sixth Month: The body gains much weight, the eyebrows and eyelashes appear. The skin is quite
wrinkled and translucent, and takes on a reddish look, due to the presence of dermal blood vessels.
Seventh Month: The skin becomes smoother due to the fat deposits in the subcutaneous tissues. The
eyelids, which fused together during the third month, reopen. At the end of this month the body is
about 37 centimeters in length.

Eight Month: In the eighth month the skin is a somewhat reddish and wrinkled. The testes of the
male descend into the scrotum from near the maturing kidneys.

Ninth Month: The fetus reaches a grand length of about 47 centimeters (18.8 inches). The skin is
very smooth, and the body appears to be chubby because of an accumulation of subcutaneous fat.

Tenth Month: The fetus is now about 50 centimeters long and weighs about 6-8 pounds. The scalp in
usually covered with hair, the skull bones are ossified, and the fingers and toes have well developed
nails. The fetus moves in position in preparation for birth, with its head facing toward the cervix,
while its body is upside down.

The temple foundation was laid at about the same time that a baby is born. “Consider now from
this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the
foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it.” Hag.2.18

“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I
am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest
parts of the earth.” Psa.139.13-15.

Developing Child Responds to State of Mother: “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the
salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:”
Luke.1.41

Child can be filled with Holy Ghost from Birth: “For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and
shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his
mother's womb.” Luke.1.15

LABOR: “Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man
with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that
day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.”
Jer.30.6

BIRTH: “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” Gal.4.19

This is the process whereby a baby is brought forth out of the mother’s womb. It is a time when a
woman goes through great anguish, but it is also a time when she has the greatest joy. “A woman
when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the
child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world,” John.16.21.

BORN AGAIN: “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a
man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a
man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John.3.3-5. “Then went he down, and dipped himself
seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto
the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” 2King.5.14

Definition: "Born again: means a transformation, a new birth in Christ Jesus.” RH.1897-04-
13.013

Process of transformation: “When truth becomes an abiding principle in the life, the soul is "born
again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth
forever." 1Pet.1.23. This new birth is the result of receiving Christ as the Word of God. When by the
Holy Spirit divine truths are impressed upon the heart, new conceptions are awakened, and the
energies hitherto dormant are aroused to co-operate with God.” AA.520.

Evidence of being “Born Again.” “The most powerful evidence a man can give that he has been
born again and is a new man in Christ Jesus, is the manifestation of love for his brethren, the doing of
Christlike deeds.” GCB.1900-07-01.013

Acid Test of being born again: “I ask every church-member to consider the words, "ye must be born
again." Are you living the new life in Christ? Are you doing his work? Are you honoring him by
showing the great blessing that is found in standing under his banner? Are you so grateful to Christ for
his redeeming love, so faithful and true to his service, that your heart can not be haughty, selfish, self-
centered? Is watching unto prayer a part of your daily life? RH.1906-05-10.

A Personal Inventory? "Chosen of God and precious." Consider, every one who names the name of
Christ, have you tasted that the Lord is gracious? Has this been an actual part of your experience,
represented in John 6 as eating the flesh and drinking the blood of the Son of God? As new born babes
are you learning to desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby? Have you at any
time in your life been truly converted? Have you been born again? If you have not, then it is time for
you to obtain the experience that Christ told one of the chief rulers that he must have. "Ye must be
born again," He said, "Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." That is, he
cannot discern the requirements essential to having a part in that spiritual kingdom. "Marvel not that I
say unto thee, ye must be born again." If you open your minds to the entrance of God's word, with a
determination to practice that word, light will come; for the word gives understanding to the simple.”
KC.064.

To be born again means to have Christ formed within, it means a death to self and a life that is hid with
Christ in God. It is not obtained through our works, but through Christ working in us by His Spirit
through faith. To be born again is a humbling of the soul to the will of God. It is the process whereby
one life dies and another begins. Being born again comes not from understanding Bible doctrine and
consenting to their validity, it comes through accepting Christ as ones personal savior and daily
feeding on His living Word. Just like a new born baby that drinks the milk of its mother, so too does
the born again person drink of the milk of God. To be born again comes from a hungering and
thirsting after righteousness and trusting soley in the merits of the crucified savior, resulting in a life of
obedience to the law of God.

Let’s take a look at some spiritual parallels of the physical and spiritual birth.

DISEASES OF THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Infertility & Sterility

Infertility means significantly lower than normal ability to reproduce. If the inability is complete, the
condition is termed sterility. The proportion of the testes are very sensitive to X-rays, infections,
toxins and malnutrition, all of which bring about degenerative changes. Such damage can cause a
reduction in the number of sperm being produced. Adequate numbers of sperm required to disperse
the coating around the ovum in order for it to be fertilized.
Infertility is much more difficult to diagnose and evaluate in the female than in the male. In the male it
can be determined be a simple semen examination which will determine the number of sperm present,
there is no such simple way of determining female infertility. Causes of infertility in women include
infections, endocrine disorders, psychogenic factors and abnormality in the structure and function of
the reproductive organs.

As the work of the sperm in the fertilization of the ovum is likened to the work of God is spiritual
regeneration, so we see here that conditions in the world around us, the cares of this life, makes it more
difficult for the Holy Spirit to reach us. “When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and
understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.
This is he which received seed by the way side.” Matt.13.19.

We see also that the time will come when it will no longer be possible for the Holy Spirit to reach
those who have refused His pleadings. “My Spirit will not always strive with man.” Gen 6:3.

In cases of suspected infertility, the male should be examined first, as the procedures are much easier
and less expensive. Likewise, if we are not bringing forth children unto God we need to “Examine
yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that
Jesus Christ (the seed) is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2Cor.13.5

Prostate Disease

If the prostate becomes enlarged, as it is often does in older men, the function of urinating becomes
altered. Because the enlarged prostrate occupies space which would otherwise be used for the
expanding bladder, only a small amount of urine can accumulate in the bladder. In addition to the loss
of bladder space, there is an incomplete emptying of the bladder, resulting in a further reduction of
available bladder space. This problem can eventually lead to a back flow of urine into the kidneys,
with resulting inflammation and disease of the kidneys. By the age of 60, about 50% of men will have
developed some enlargement of the prostate; by 80, almost all. Tumors may develop in the male
reproductive organs, most commonly the prostate, and are quite common in elderly men. Such
growths may be benign or malignant, but both types cause pressure on the urethra. Cancer of the
prostate is a common disorder in men over 50. The cancer often spreads to the bones with a fatal
outcome.

Dysmenorrhea

Painful or difficult menstruation, particularly in young women, may be due to the immaturity in the
uterus. One important cause of dysmenhorrea may be improper clothing. Tight clothing around the
waist, hips or thighs impede circulation to the pelvic organs and increase the likelihood of diseases
occurring in these organs. The proper clothing of the extremities is also important; they should be kept
warm at all times. In many cases the disorder ceases after a woman’s first pregnancy. Enlargement of
the cervical opening is the most apparent reason for the cessation of the problem. Often such health
measures as sufficient rest, a well-balanced diet and appropriate exercises remedy the disorder. The
application of heat over the area may relieve pain; administering a hot foot bath will help to relieve
congestion in the abdominal area, easing the pain. The removal of sin from our lives can be a painful
experience. Only when we are untied with Christ, when we are “fertilized” and implanted in the
womb, that we can be at peace with Him.

Abdominal Uterine Bleeding

This includes excessive menstrual flow and too-frequent menstruation, both of which can cause serious
anemia, and weakness.

Non-menstrual bleeding may be a sign of a tumor or cancer. If the blood of Christ is not continually
removing sin from our lives, we will gradually draw farther from God, until our whole spiritual
experience is diseased. “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”
Acts 3:19.

“Every act of transgression, every neglect or rejection of the grace of Christ, is reacting upon yourself;
it is hardening the heart, depraving the will, benumbing the understanding, and not only making you
less inclined to yield, but less capable of yielding, to the tender pleading of God's Holy Spirit.” SC.033.

Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS)

This condition, also called Pre-menstrual Tension (PTM), is a condition in which nervousness,
irritability and depression precede the menstrual period, due to the increased hormonal activity
associated with ovulation.

God works in our lives, leading us through many experiences in order for us to come to a realization of
our need of Him, before the “fertilization” of our souls can take place. This experience often seems
unpleasant and difficult to understand, but we are assured that “He never leads them otherwise than
they would choose to be led if they could see the end from the beginning and discern the glory of the
purpose which they are fulfilling.” RH 19-12-1907. “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he
hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not
declined.” Job.23.10,11.

Endometriosis

This condition in which tissue containing typical endometrial elements, and which normally is found
only in the uterus, occurs in other parts of the pelvic cavity. Women suffering from this condition are
usually unable to conceive. If we liken the specially lined uterus to the body of believers whose work
it is to nourish the new Christian, then we see that if the church becomes involved in areas where God
never intended us to be, it causes pain and disruption to the whole body, and may result in the loss of
souls.

Ectopic Pregnancy

Occasionally a fertilized egg fails to travel to the uterus, and begins to develop somewhere else,
usually in the fallopian tube. Because there is insufficient room in this smaller area to contain the
rapidly growing embryo, the tube will eventually burst.

God has a special place for each of His children to fill. We may choose to place ourselves somewhere
other than God intends us to be, but this will result in disaster to us and the destruction of our
relationship with God, unless we remedy the situation and do His will. e.g. Jonah.
