Environmental Health in Poland
As a Delegate for the country of Poland, our position on the changes in our environment
that are Polands climate has changed from cold winters, and rather warm summers. Winter
being from the cold polar air coming in from Russia and Scandinavia. Warm summers coming
from the air from the South. It has now changed from due to global warming, it has brought
Poland to having colder winter which cause warmer summers. Also has also caused there to be
many hurricanes, which is a constant occurrence. With the rain the hurricane has brought
vulnerability to mosquito-Bourne viruses.
Since 1989 our country has suffered a decline of heavy industry and an increasing in
environment changes. Although it has improved somewhat over the years it still suffers of air
pollution due to so much sulfur dioxide that come from coal usage that fire up the usage of our
plant factories. In result has caused acid rain to highly destroy our forest, water pollution from
industrial sources that dispose hazardous waste into the environment. These situations have
brought us into the situation to dealing with many health issues; including Lung cancer from air
pollution, and many other sicknesses from water contamination.
Poland signed on to the Paris Accords in New York last year, but we havent ratified
them. Ever since signing we want a 40% reduction in emissions, 27% for energy that comes from
renewable, also want another 27% increase in our energy efficiency. The organization and our
country both know that these things are expensive and we are worried that it will cripple our
economy. We want to reduce pollution and increase energy efficiency, but we also want to
protect our economy. We want all these things, but we have yet to develop a proposal/ solution

for this dilemma. Another issue I that our country has yet to recover from the overexploitation of
forests from World War II. Since the mid- 19th century 75% of the forests have been
damaged/destroyed because of acid rain.
Again our issues are mainly air and water pollution and deforestation from
1overexploitation. Our solutions are: 1. Keep track of emission releases, 2. Build a clean coal
factory, which creates less air pollution being released into the air, 3. Plant more trees to help
with the deforestation, 4. Start using solar panels instead of relying on coal for energy power, 5.
Use wind power instead of having harmful greenhouse gases releasing into the air .
