Big Ideas/Unit Goals:
-Development of Motor Skills and Technique: Motor skills and technique are essential to dance as an art
form and how skills can be produced to form a dance or performance.
-Development of Dance Vocabulary: Dance vocabulary holds an importance of proper etiquette to dance
itself and an aspect of history and its meaning.
-Comprehension and Analysis of Dance Elements: This allows students to have a better understanding
of dance and its underling meaning to effectively communicate with one another.
Unit Summary:
This unit explores beginning dance technique, vocab, and analysis. Throughout the unit students will be
demonstrating dance movement skills, understanding and analyzing the main components of dance, and
have kinesthetic body awareness while performing/demonstrating dance movements. Students will be able to
generate knowledge learned in this unit through dance by creating a dance of their genre choice within a
group for their final project. The students will apply their knowledge learned in this unit to demonstrate dance
skills to those around them and apply basic knowledge to real-world situations.
