Game Overview
Tales of Rathoria Demo (TRD) will be a JRPG style that will combine
overworld exploration with standard area exploration and a hybrid Active
Turn Battle System (ATB).
The Overworld map for the Demo will be the area around Randu, featuring:

The final dungeon

The Standard area exploration will contain the above four areas, plus the
scenes on the Undying.
The Combat System will feature:
1. Draxxar, Raido, Poisonsting and Otto against guards, random
enemies, cultists and the Priest Lanmar.
2. Mesa, Norrin, Hellran and Sirrious facing Draxxar and his
minions.
The Demo will not include leveling and will only reference that project.
There will be basic inventory support for potions.

The Story
The Story of the Demo is an abridged version of Draxxar and Mesas
interactions. It is being recounted by Draxxar to Thorn, as they both
discuss what will happen in the future. Draxxars answers and phrases will
remain unclear until the very finale.
The story will start with Draxxar awakening from his sleep in the ship,
feeling a very disturbing bond over someone. He goes to inform Otto, but
before he reaches him an old crew-member, Illyana, cries in terror for help.
Draxxar orders the ship to Randu, and descends with a landing party to
find Illyana, and the object of his bond. After exploring Randu and being
hunted by guardsmen, they learn of a recent witch-hunt, and head to the
village Myrtle.
There they find the village under attack by Khryssyls Inquisitors, and can
choose to intervene or continue their mission.

If they help, they learn that Illyana gave birth to a child, was
arrested and dragged to the pyre but was saved by the Inquisitors
but was taken away by a mysterious and powerful warrior. They are
also given the direction where the Inquisitors have taken the baby
and they are given a path to the forrest to avoid the greatest part of
the maze.
Else, they discover the pile with ashes, assuming she was burned.
Then they must investigate the marks around the pyre, and follow
the Inquisitors to the forest. There they must find their way through
the maze, battling beasts and monsters.

In the cave there will be a boss battle with Lanmar, and after he is
defeated, Draxxar discovers the baby and takes it on board until he can be
certain she is no threat to him.
The story will continue with 4 cutscenes. These will be used, modified, in
the final game:
1. Draxxar bonds with the girl (~4yr old). Otto informs him that aside
from his feelings, the girl cannot be used against him and can be
given away safely. A pause will have Thorn does ask him if he
regrets it there, but Draxxar does not answer. A ship with a dwarf
arrives to take the girl to safety. As Mesa (unnamed yet)
approaches, she sees Draxxars pain and hugs him to make him feel
better. Draxxar immediately decides to keep the girl with him and
names her Undine.
2. Draxxar and Mesa(~10yr old) play on deck, a crewmember comes
to complain he cannot find the North and Draxxar shouts at him.
Then Mesa points North correctly through a series of silly and funny
errors and convulted child logic. Draxxar picks her up, Undine asks

him if he has been near a Star, and Draxxar answers Yes, one. The
brightest .
3. Mesa(~14 yr old) trains with Raido, but is defeated. Draxxar then
arrives and attempts to force Mesa in combat. There is a mockup
combat scren, but only the choice Talk / Plead is availlable, as
Mesa refuses to hit her daddy. Draxxar grows increasingly irritated,
and finally points the gun to her, but he cannot pull the trigger to
harm her. He tells Mesa she is a stubborn girl, and he laments that if
the time comes (he means a Reset), he will harm her, but Mesa
remains confident that he will not.
4. The visit by the 19th Protector, and the abduction. Draxxar is bitter
that when the time came, he was unprepared for that fight. The
game then cuts to the final scene.
The next scene is the companions planning and agreeing to do everything
to help the Captain, and teleporting on the ship. There Norrin will
attempt to call out his Plan, but Mesa rushes ahead and the Plan fails. The
final combat begins, where initially the companions must defeat the
shadows that Draxxar summons,a nd in the end defeat Draxxar himself.
There will be 3 resolutions to the game:
1. Draxxar is liberated
a. Mesa survived
b. Mesa has died in the attempt
2. Draxxar is not liberated
For Draxxar to be liberated, at least one companion must survive and
defeat him. For the demos simplicity, no companion can die as long as
Mesa survives. (She will take the finishing blow as long as she is alive). As
such, if Mesa is alive, all companions are alive.
Case 1a:
Draxxar announces to Thorn that he does not regret his choice, he
has his daughter by his side and he has cut ties with his past. He will no
longer mourn for the past, and his deeds will be his redemption. He then
announces to a surprised Thorn that he will become a Jade Phoenix. Then,
the game will cut to To Be Continued
Case 1b:
Draxxar explains to Thorn regretting keeping Mesa with him, being
certain that if he had surrendered her to the dwarf she would be alive now.
He tells him that his freedom has brought him only bitterness and he only
cares for revenge, and for that he will help him with his cause. The game
will cut to Thanks for Playing!
Case 2:

Draxxar angrily answers to Thorn that his schemes mean nothing,


their Master is invincible and all who go against him suffer. He tells him
that he will no longer suffer or care for the mortal world, and will threaten
Thorn with his gun, reminding him that he is now mortal. The game will cut
to Thanks for Playing!

Overworld Exploration
It will be minimal, just a path connecting the Town, the Village and the
Forest. Nothing fancy, no secrets or extra options.
