The Importance of Individuality

What is Individuality? Is it a title or a feeling. Society spits on the idea of standing
out and being different. In life, humans are influenced by society without thought of it the group
itself is shaped by society(A. Spirkin). Individuals are more important to care for because
people inevitably live for themselves.
What does society improve in ones life? Models and Expectations of superstars that
regular people feel expected to measure up to. Individuals are more important because we need
to care for ourselves in order to thrive. Like Craig Biddle said Individualism is the idea that the
individuals life belongs to him (Biddle). If we are not adamant to keep our individuality,
society can define who we are.
Society determines who we are and who we become as a person. Sometimes it's not all of
society, it can be a group of people. In the past, men have labeled women, so they are unable to
speak for themselves. We have come such a long way that today, women are prime ministers and
in congress. They became the first women in society to do these things and other women have
benefited from this. From this statement, individuals need to be themselves to allow others to
grow. Therefore, individuals are more important than society.
There is only one time a society is more important that an individual, and that is if an
individuals decisions are harmful to a large number of people. For example, a child does not get

the chickenpox vaccine and attends school. Soon enough, the child gets chickenpox and still
attends school. The school calls the parents and tells them their child is too sick to come to
school. Does the child have the right to come to school regardless or the child cant come
because they will cause the other children to get sick? People have their own rights and
privileges . Society is so fragile that the simplest mistake can have effect the entire community.
Individuals aren't always the important ones, when society is on the brink. However, people may
choose their own destiny.
In conclusion, individuals are more important because they inevitably need to care for
themselves. As humans, we should stop following societys habits that hurt people for their
worse. Habits such as stereotypes, labels, and trend people are expected to follow. Find how we
as people can improve yourselves as a community.
