Written Specifications

2.1.1

Mechanical Property Requirements


Mechanical properties shall meet the following requirements, determined in
accordance with the material qualification test methods of this specification:

Yield strength 2% offset (min): 517MPa

Tensile strength (min): 655MPa

Elongation in 50mm (min):17%

d)

Reduction in area (min): 35%

e)

Hardness (Brinell): 197HB (max)

f)

Min. Average Impact V notch: 27J

Material Qualification
a) Qualification Test Coupons (QTC) details:
Size: 4 x 4 x 8
Equivalent round (ER) =1/4T.
b) Tensile test shall be performed at room temperature in accordance with ASTM
A370
c) Hardness test shall be in accordance with ASTM E10 or ASTME E18.

2.1.3

Heat-treatment Procedure
All material shall be heat-treated as following condition:
a) Preheat material at 680oC.
b) Harden at 870oC (8oC) for 3 hours follow by water quench.
d) Temper at 650oC (8oC) for 4 hours follow by air cooling.

2.1.4

Material Composition
The composition of the material supplied shall conform to the following analysis.
Reported analysis shall include the results of quantitative determination of all
elements listed, plus any other elements used to control mechanical properties.

Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Requirements


a) Material shall be capable of passing surface NDE after final machining on all
surfaces using the wet fluorescent magnetic particle method in accordance with API
Specification 6A, Section 7.4.2.2.8.
b) Material shall be capable of passing 100% ultrasonic volumetric NDE in
accordance with API Specification 6A, Section 7.4.2.2.9.
c) Ultrasonic Volumetric NDE shall be test as following:
Reference: ASTM A388
Frequency: 2MHz
Angle: 0
Calibration Standard Block: Flat Bottom Hole
Scanning area: Round surface x all flat surface
Scanning technique: Straight beam
Couplants: Oil SAE no 30
Distance Amplitude Correction (DAC): +6Db

2.1.6

Allowable Melting Practice(s)


The steel shall be produced by Electric Furnace + VD (Vacuum Degassing)

2.1.7

Forming Practice(s)
a) All wrought material shall be pressure vessel quality and shall be formed using hot
working practices which produce a wrought structure throughout.
b) The material shall be produced as forging with hot working ratio of 6:1.

2.1.8

Heat-treating Equipment Calibration


Recommended practice for heat-treating equipment calibration is as follows:
a) Minimum one (1) thermocouple for every 3.5 m3 of working hot zone.
b) Tolerance for quenching is 14oC and for tempering is 8oC.
