Borbil

Borbil (Dhekiajuli): Borbil is a village situated in the Sonitpur, Assam. This place is in the interior part
of Dhekiajuli. The Gaon Panchayat (GP) of the village is Bamunpukhari. Earlier, in this area there was
a lake but was ruined by Gabharu river around 100 years ago. And so the name of the place Borbil
(Big Lake) goes. The region is constituted by other small areas namely Borbil Pathar, Ghatwa etc. In
spite of having a developed area next to it, it is still very much underdeveloped. The people are
suffering for not having adequate facilities through various plans introduced by the government. This
region lags behind in terms of literacy level of primary education (i.e., 70% for male and 66% for
female, matriculation 60% for male and 40% for female and less than 14% of higher studies both for
male and female). Jugal High School is only institution which provides higher education. Most of the
families are surviving on agriculture and few holding government job holder. Many of the students
drops out their studies after completion of their metric exams and start working as a farmer helping
other family members. When we talked to President of Bamunpukhari, Mr. Shiv Shankar Kurmi he

VO2: Borbil is one of the villages from Dhekiajuli block in Sonitpur district of Assam. The male and
female literacy rate is average, but people are very active. There are so many problems that Borbil
village is facing problems like electricity outage, water supply shortage, rationing of food grains
issues etc. Other problems that are pinching the people are unemployment, MNREGA, and primary
health centre issues. Health problem is rampant in this village. People need to travel for about 32
Kms to reach hospital to seek for a treatment. Several patients are report to death on their way to
hospital. Rationing of food is also an issue, but people still do not get enough food for their family.
Another issue that nowadays people are facing is housing issue. Family members live in one compact
room. Light and electricity is not less important than other issues. Keeping in view these issues,
people need to know how government machinery is doing to tackle and handle the issues.
