INSPIRATION ACADEMY PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Inspiration Academy Project has been initiated by Sports International (SI), a sports
organisation founded in the UK which aims to promote sports participation and active healthy
lifestyle among people of all ages and abilities around the world. Through organisation of largescale international sports events, Sports International seeks to alleviate poverty levels in
developing countries through boosting the economy of the host states via increase in sports
tourism and sports investment.
Initiated in 2012, Sports International started its first sports project in the developing country
Bangladesh. The first in Bangladeshs history annual international running events, titled The Big
Bangla Run, were staged to increase sports participation among Bangladeshis and promote
involvement of girls and women in sports. The Big Bangla Run staged 10k and Half Marathon
running events in Bangladeshs capital Dhaka and the tourists-favoured Coxs Bazar. The race
events became increasingly popular among Bangladeshis and international participants and
were praised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Bangladesh Olympic
Association and Bangladesh Athletic Federation for contribution to raising awareness for
active healthy lifestyle, significant impact on sports participation and increase in international
tourism levels in Bangladesh.
Through organisation of The Big Bangla Run events in Bangladesh, Sports International (SI)
witnessed the staggering lack of opportunities for underprivileged and disabled young children
of Bangladesh to engage in sports.
Sports International is set to establish Inspiration Academy to make sports participation and
training accessible to all children in Bangladesh irrespective of their gender, social backgrounds,
abilities or disabilities.
Inspiration Academy Project aims to introduce free sports programmes to children with
sporting talents and free adapted sports training to children with disabilities.
The ethos of Inspiration Academy Project is to transform the lives of many children in
Bangladesh through participation and achievements in sports. By inspiring many young
Bangladeshis to take up sports participation on an athletic level, the project seeks to break the
vicious cycle of poverty prevalent in Bangladesh. Many student-athletes coming from various
social backgrounds will be selected at competition events and auditions and will train under the
supervision of the worlds best European coaches to become the future Olympic and Paralympic
Champions.
At the latest summer Olympic Games 2012 Bangladesh was represented only in 5 sports
(archery, athletics, gymnastics, shooting and swimming). The comprehensive sports training

projected to be delivered at the Academy will comprise of 9 Olympic sports programmes and will
include 6 Paralympic programmes which have never been available before in Bangladesh.
In the history of Paralympic Games Bangladesh has only been represented by two parathletes
in athletics in 2004 and 2008.
Inspiration Academy is set to produce Olympic and Paralympic Champions to represent
Bangladesh in additional cycling, rowing, football, basketball and tennis events.
The achievements of the student-athletes graduates of the Academy at the World
Championship Events and Tournaments will help to raise the worldwide profile of Bangladesh
on the arena of sports at the regional and international level.
