Hi,

I'm trying to help out a mate with a 2005 740 E65 or E66 maybe (not clear on the difference!).
The problem is that the key and EWS have got out of sync as a result of the battery being weak
and trying to start it repeatedly, which has caused the key/EWS/DME to get out of sync.

The central locking is fine - its the actual immobiliser bit that is the problem - it cranks but wont
start and reports a EWS rolling code mismatch (can't remember the exact error)

My version of INPA wont communicate with it although the E65 files are there in the right
folder, and wondered if there is a difference between the E65/66 that needs different files in
INPA?
I could read the engine ECU error but trying to reset the ews throws a comms error and the script
stops.

After this failed attempt I carefully followed Jimmys instructions and installed DIS in VM
Player (v3) and this works, after a fashion, and tried it on my E39 but it seems really quite fiddly
to use not helped by the screen size in VM player being larger that the desktop resolution
meaning I have to come in and out of VM Player to move to any buttons that are off the side of
the screen!

What I am hoping is that someone can give me a How To guide for dummies on how to re-sync
the key in DIS.

If INPA (V5.0.2) has additional files for the E66 that would let me do it that way Id be happy to
do it Ive seen/read how to via the DME, and tried this on my E39 and seem ok, but the 7series throws up the stupid comms error

Many thanks

jimmy

It's very easy in dis, are you using a laptop or notebook? You can change screen res in the
registry a simple 1 instead of a 0 and you will get full screen on you moniter, its nothing to do
with vmplayer its your PC screen res.
Read car quick test green arrow right then bottom left button function select then service
function then drive then dme/dde cas align.

Hi, thanks for the swift reply!

I'm using an old 10" Acer notebook I was given recently, which replaced the old ibm T30 I had
-> x10 faster or more; fitted max RAM it can take (2Gb) and a SSD and now loads win 7 (32bit)
in about 45 secs!! Can you tell me where in the Registry I need to change 0 to 1?

Will try it out tomorrow on mine and the 7-series on Monday if it works ok!

hi again,

That worked a treat - I can now see all the buttons on the screen which makes it much easier to
navigate! I tried DIS on mine and cannot see where to re-sync the key/ews/dme - looked under
both the EWS and DME. In inpa, I would go in to the DME, select Activate option and it was in

there. In DIS I cannot see it anywhere. Tried Google but couldn't find anything either
you, or any other members on here, know how please?

Would

Thanks again!

On a 2005 car I think you should be looking for DME/DDE to CAS not EWS

as I have already said do a Quick test on car, once finished click right arrow at which point the
"function select" button will become active,
click that and you will get some options, click service functions then click "DRIVE" then click
DME/DDE then you will get more options one of which should be CAS-DME/DDE
click that then more options click align then the "Test plan" button will become active press that
and it will talk you through it.

Many many thanks Jimmy - The "Quick" tests took almost 20-mins to run, and the car was
riddled with faults (which are SEP - Someone Else's Problem!).

Tracked it down in the end and got is reset - the on-screen instructions were not brilliant with
things like "Terminal 15 is is off" and such like! Takes some time on my little notepad to get
from one screen to the next sometimes. The error was "incorrect immobilizer telegrams
received. Capture range calculation

I should have noted this down properly, but here goes..... I hope this will help someone else in
my predicament!

Followed your instructions and found the Drive, and CSA-DME option.

Clicked on Function Selection, then under Service Function select Drive, Engine Management
(ME9/MED9), select Adjustment in the middle column, DME-CAS in the right hand column,
then the middle < > double arrow a list pops up and on the list "Note: S1214 NGCAS / Start
Value Status".
There is a description of the error, then press right arrow.
Option 2 to reset the code (Start Value calibration), then the right-hand arrow
Switch on terminal 15 is shown (which means put the key in and switch on the ignition, but
without the engine running (well seeing as the car wouldn't start that was a no brainer!) Right
arrow again, and it popped up, scarily, with 2 errors with a numbers like: <00062538> with
<0000000> below it, which I assumed were the mis-matched data from the control module/key cancelled both these and it then reset the codes, and asked to turn off the ignition (Terminal 15 is
off), wait for the main relay to drop out (so left it 20 mins), then the car should start, which it did.

Locked it up and left is another 20mins and the tested starting again to be sure and it worked!
Told the guy never to left the battery get that flat again!!!

Newbie to DIS - I've used INPA for years re the old E34, and now the 39, but my install of INPA
won't work with the E65 (although the files seem to be there ok?!) so the whole install of
VMPlayer, diaghead, etc, was totally new to me - the PDF you supply with the cable is brilliant
to get it set up and running I must say!

After the time I spent with DIS yesterday I'm a lot more familiar with it now!

Thank again Jimmy for your time and help

No problem, I don't know how long you have had the cable but the latest DVD is just install and
run only comport setting and ip setting for vmplayer and that's it.
