RAW POINTS

FOR LETTERS TO CONGRESS DEMANDING LEGISLATION TO REQUIRE

THE INCOMING PRESIDENT TP RESOLVE THE CONFLICTS OF
INTEREST BETWEEN HIS BUSINESS INTERESTS AND THOSE OF THE
NATION

Please sponsor legislation that will require the President of the

United States and his cabinet members to disclose details of all
their business dealings and IRS tax returns and put all business
holdings in a blind trust.

Government is instituted for the common good; for the

protection, safety, prosperity and happiness of the people; and
not for the profit, honor or private interest of any one man,
family or class of men. John Adams, Second President of the
United states

The Emoluments Clause of the Constitution provides the

American people with assurances that persons holding public
office do not use the offices to accept payments and gifts from
foreign governments or monarchs that could compromise
decision-making in office.

America's incoming President continues to face serious conflictof-interest questions arising from his sprawling business empire.

Donald Trump will not divest his interest in his business empire
nor will he place his business assets in a blind trust.

His suggestion that the businesses will be run by his sons does
not allay concerns that opportunities for personal gain arising
from his position will be, or will appear to be, exploited at the
expense of the nation.

In refusing to divest his holdings Trumps actions suggest he

places greater importance on his business interests than in
protecting the integrity of the presidency or the interests of the
American people.

Trumps approach to governance and ethics repudiates decades

of accepted norms for modern democratic accountability.

He leaves the Presidency vulnerable to self-dealing, constitutional

crisis, the appearance of corruption, and other abuses of power.

As Trump has said that he wont voluntarily resolve his conflicts

of interest so it is up to Congress to do so.

Congress has a constitutional duty to act as an independent

check on the Executive Branch to ensure that the President is not
violating the Constitution.

We call upon Congress to do what the President will not; protect

the operation of the government, the interests of the nation and
the integrity of the presidency.

Congress must pass legislation that requires the President and

his cabinet appointees - to dispose of this business interests or
fully disclose them for the purpose of undertaking comprehensive
Congressional oversight.

Congress must obtain all corporate and legal documents relating

to the President-elects global entanglements and business
dealings, including the tax returns he promised to produce to the
American people. This will facilitate on-going monitoring of
government operations and decision-making to ensure they do
not benefit the President and his family at the expense of the
American people.
