Configuration Guide to Switching

Conditions of SNCP at OptiX VC4 Level


1.1 Introduction
At present, for switching conditions supported by each product differ, service
configuration of SNCP at VC4 level is still complicated to some extend. In
network deployment, reconstruction or maintenance, at VC4 level, it is
suggested networking by multiplex section ring as possible. If SNCP is
necessary, make sure the configuration correct and SNCP active/standby
state normal.
This guide emphasizes specification of switching conditions of SNCP at VC4
level. For detailed service configuration, please refer to related documents.

1.3 Products Knowledge


1.3.1

Interrelation between switching conditions


Different products support different SNCP switching conditions, shown as
above.

SF includes RLOS, RLOF, MSAIS, B2-EXC, AULOP and AUAIS.

SD includes HP-UNEQ, HP-TIM, B3-EXC and B3-SD.

If SF does not preempt SNCP node of SD, if one of all the SNCP switching
conditions has a fault, it is considered the fault in a corresponding channel
with status indication as bad. To the active channel, switch will start.
Nevertheless, the standby channel will be set as bad, and will not switch
even the working channel has detected other switching conditions.
For example, set HP-TIM as a switching condition of SNCP, but HP-TIM
alarms occur in both active and standby channels of SNCP node. In this

case, both channels will indicate bad. If SF is unable to preempt SD, if AUAIS alarm occurs subsequently, SNCP will not switch, either.
Table below is to show whether SD preemption by SF supported. Note: This
function is not necessary.

Overhead Pass-through Mode and J1/C2 Mismatch Alarm Detection


1 In high order overhead pass-through mode
In this mode, the device does not detect whether C2 bytes mismatch, but
whether J1 bytes mismatch. If J1 bytes mismatch, HP-TIM alarm will occur,
without AIS inserting.
2 In high order overhead termination mode
In this mode, devices will detect whether J1 or C2 bytes mismatch.
If J1 bytes mismatch, HP-TIM alarm will occur, without AIS inserting.
If C2 bytes mismatch, HP-SLM alarm will occur, with AIS inserting. In the
case of C2 bytes mismatch, no insert of AIS is modified in the version S16
2.31 and later of 2500+ products.

1.3.3 Overhead Pass-through Mode and High Order Overhead Bytes


Processing
Pass-through mode: The transmission system directly forwards the received
high order channel overhead to the next station. The local station only
performs detection.
Termination mode: The transmission system does not forward the received
high order channel overhead to the next station. The overhead byte value
sent to the next station is set according to services of local station.

In the setting, high order overhead is termination. The terminated overhead


is in the direction of crossover->optical interface output on board. And
overhead in the direction optical interface input on board->crossover only
can be detected, without further processing.
In pass-through mode of high order, J1 or C2 bytes to be sent are not
true sent bytes by NM setting.

As shown above, only after overhead pass-through mode of both board A


and board B are set as termination can realize bidirectional overhead
termination.
Take VC4 SNCP ring configured in 2500+ as example. Default of J1/C2
bytes are inconsistent with the default J1/C2 bytes of 2500+.

If all boards on 2500+ NE are in overhead pass-through mode, when


SNCP service in passes through corresponding channels of optical
boards, HP-TIM alarms will occur. If HP-TIM is set as SNCP switching
condition, active and standby routing of SNCP nodes will be bad, which
will lose protection.

At A and D, if set a board, such as SL1 board, which interconnects to the


router, as termination mode, when SNCP service passes through
corresponding channel of S16 optical board, HP-TIM alarm will occur. If
HP-TIM is set as SNCP switching condition, active and standby routing
of SNCP nodes will be bad, which will lose protection.

To eliminate bad mentioned above, there are four options in the case of
the router sending fixed overhead bytes.

Option one: Set J1 bytes sent by the router consistent with bytes to be
received set by the company.

Corresponding channel of service pass-through station is in overhead passthrough mode.


Option two: At SNCP node, set J1 bytes sent by the router consistent with to
be received bytes in corresponding channels (at B, C, E and F) of
active/standby S16.
Corresponding channel of service pass-through station is in overhead passthrough mode.
Option three: Set the overhead pass-through mode in corresponding
channels (at B, C, E and F) of active/standby S16 board at SNCP node as
termination. A and D possibly needs modification.
Use HP-TIM as a switching condition. Corresponding channel of passthrough station is in overhead pass-through mode.
Option four: Cancel HP-TIM as a switching condition. Use AU-AIS for
transparent transmission. Be careful the version.
If overhead sent by the interconnection device needs transparent
transmission and is changing, AU-AIS must be used.

1.3.4

AU-AIS Alarm Transparent Transmission


After alarms occur, R-LOS, R-LOF and MS-AIS will transfer AU-AIS alarms
to downstream stations. If the device does not support AU-AIS transparent
transmission, fault detection of SNCP node will be affected, except HP-TIM
as the switching condition.
H1, H2 and H3 bytes are not contained in VC4. Thats to say, AU-AIS cannot
simply be transparently transmitted to downstream NE through service flow.

disconnection between NE A and NE B, the transparent transmission of
AU-AIS is shown as below.

1.4 General Principle and Precautions


1.4.1

General Principle
1.

At present, NP-TIM as the switching condition of VC4 SNCP service is


optional according to different products and versions.

2.

In the future, 2500+ products series will not take HP-TIM as switching
condition of SNCP, consistent with default settings of 10G and NG-SDH.

3.

When use HP-TIM as switching condition of SNCP, set correctly and


make sure SNCP node active/standby routings in good state.

4.

To cancel HP-TIM as a switching condition, all boards, including standby


routing, should support AU-AIS transparent transmission in SNCP
service.

1.4.2

Precautions
1.

Set switching conditions with a command line. Make sure the


consistence of NM, host and board, as well as related configuration
downloaded to NE after downloading NM.

2.

If circuit board in the ring used by SNCP node also belongs to MSP ring,
take care of overhead setting after multiplex sections switching.

3.

To test SNCP switching time at 2500+ VC4 level, it is suggested using


HP-TIM as switching condition.

4.

It is suggested using SD as switching condition. Thats to add B3SD and


B3EXC as switching conditions.

1.4.3

Switching Function Checking


1.

Check SNCP working status, and make sure no bad in


active/standby channels.

2.

If the user agrees, proceed to fiber cable disconnection switching test.

3.

Insert alarms belonging to switching conditions in corresponding


channels and test SNCP switching.

1.5 Configuration of SNCP Service at VC4 Level


For option of SNCP switching condition in practical networking, please refer
to Appendix I Option of SNCP Switching Conditions in Networking with
Different Products.

1.5.1 Option of Switching Conditions in Networking SNCP Ring only with


10G V2
Configuration principle:
AU-AIS: Configuration is the default value, which requires no modification
and does not support modification.
HPUNEQ: A necessary condition for SNCP switching. Make sure that only
the circuit board versioned 1.20 or above supports HPUNEQ as a switching
condition. The default has no configuration, requiring manual configuration.
HP-TIM: The default has no configuration. When networking only with 10G
MADM, configuration is not required.
B3SD and B3EXC: The default has no configuration, and configuration is
suggested.
Related commands:
:cfg-set-sncpattrib:PgId,PuId,OptCondition,DelayTime;
For example, to configure B3SD, B3EXC and HPUNEQ as switching
conditions.

Note: Whatever the configuration, AU-AIS is a switching condition which
cannot be modified.

1.5.2 Option of Switching Conditions in Networking SNCP Ring only with


2500+
Configuration principle:
HP-TIM: In all versions, the configuration is a default, which can be modified
according to different conditions. For more details, please refer to Guide to
SNCP Configuration in Several Cases below.
AU-AIS: 1. The default in the version which supports AU-AIS transparent
transmission has configuration. 2. The default in the version which does not
support AU-AIS transparent transmission has no configuration without
modification.

B3SD B3EXC: The default has no configuration. Configuration is


suggested.

1.5.3 Switching Condition Option in Networking SNCP Ring with 2500+


and 10G
Configuration principle:
To the version of 2500+ which does not support AU-AIS transparent
transmission, when interconnecting with 10GV2, HP-TIM should be set as
SNCP switching condition.
To the version of 2500+ which supports AU-AIS transparent transmission,
when interconnecting with 10GV2, it is suggested reserving default switching
conditions of mutual products.
To configuring B3SD and B3EXC of the products as switching conditions is
also advised.

1. Whether the service will break or not in the case of interconnection device
mismatching J1, it is suggested keeping to be sent and to be received J1
bytes consistent with the interconnection device at point a and point c.
2. Set VC4 channel of NE A and NE C in the direction of east and west, as
overhead termination.
3. Keep NE B in the default state without extra processing.
Scheme three
The interconnection does not support modification of to be sent and to be
received J1 bytes.
1. Whether the service will break or not in the case of interconnection device
mismatching J1, it is suggested keeping to be sent and to be received J1
bytes consistent with the interconnection device at point a and point c.
2. Modify all to be sent and to be received J1 bytes in VC4 channel in the
direction of east and west to keep consistent with the interconnection device
in the whole ring.

II.

J1 bytes changing with non-stop in interconnection devices

Some data device uses J1 bytes to transfer effective information. For


example, router of company C uses J1 bytes to transfer information
including IP address and name of its own, which makes J1 bytes changes all
the time. So those three schemes mentioned above cannot realize SNCP at
VC4 level.
Scheme four (for 2500+ products)
Cancel HP-TIM being the SNCP switching condition. Use AU-AIS as SNCP
switching condition.
Currently, board software of S16 sets HP-TIM as a default switching
condition. NM is unable to set.

The host and NM support and use NM to configure. The command nptp
is for your knowledge. Example:

Red indicates board number, in hex.
The bold-faced are command characters. The last two bytes returning from
query are to indicate success or failure.
Green is to indicate optical interface number.
Light blue is to indicate page number, usually as 0.
Blue is to indicate channel number, in two bytes.
Brown is to indicate J1 byte mode. Under non-standard mode, J1 bytes does
not apply 1 mode (initial byte generated from CRC), but 0 mode.

0- Employ SDH mode, configure J1 value in total of 16 bytes, the board
directly receives and configure J1 value, and cancel CRC.
1- Employ SDH mode, configure J1 value in total of 16 bytes, the board
software ignores the first byte in the configuration, and forcibly employ CRC
to generate the first byte.

1 How to Cancel HP-TIM Being a SNCP Switching Condition in 2500+
Currently, board software of S16 sets HP_TIM as a default SNCP switching
condition that NM cannot set. Only follow steps to implement the setting.
A. Cancel HP_TIM being a switching condition from host side.
:cfg-set-sncvc4:sys1,gw1,1,sys2,gw1,1,0&0&0&0,600;
:cfg-change;
Note: Only deliver this command to active service of SNCP. This command
only takes effect in host versioned 405410 or above.
B. Deliver command to the board and cancel HP_TIM being a switching
condition from board side.
:sptp:bid,bb, optical interface number,ff,0 (The value 0 indicates to cancel
HP_TIM as a switching condition. And 1 indicates to configure HPTIM as a
switching condition. The default is 1.), 55,aa;
:cfg-send-sptp:bid;
e.g. 10 board number is S16. The corresponding command is
:sptp:a,bb,1,ff,0,55,aa;
:cfg-send-sptp:10
