INTERVIEW OBJECTIVE
The objective of the interview was to know how Managerial effectiveness is important in a
persons life, how the 7 habits and the personality model has an impact on ones decisions as
well as personality and character.

INTERVIEW SCRIPT
I: - Good morning sir,
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - Good morning to you.
I: - How are you?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - I am fine, how are you?
I: - I am fine thank you. As I had informed you initially that I was going to interview you as a
fulfillment for the course. So I am here for that.
I: - So sir, Tell me about something about yourself
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - I am called Suryakant Patel and completed my degree in Bcom. I went
abroad and lived with my family overseas.
I: - So what company are you working for what is your role?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - I am working in a country called Uganda. I work with the Mukwana
group of companies that makes various products such as cooking oil, tea, plastics. There are 3
factories under the tea sector and I am a general manager at Hima Tea factory?
I: - Sir for how many years you have been in this company?
Mr. Suryakant Patel:- I have worked for 30 years in the same company, I had started off in the
company when they were dealing with import and export of textile and then moved on to soap
factory and then diversified to other sectors such as cooking oil, plastics, tea.
I: - As u have said you have been working in the same company for 30 years, what is the work
culture in your organization?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - There are people from different places and all with different
designations. The company is employing for more than 10,000 workers. The company is
employing expertise from most parts of India. And along with the localities they work one
another.

I:- being a manager there might be challenges that u might be facing , would you like to share
some few instances?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - Specially in agriculture sector, mainly workers are not in this sector
mostly under tea are not so well educated or rather are not educated and they make so many
problems. The company has personal managers and hr departments and with the help of them
they try to educate the employees. They try to do all they can so that they can help the employees
and try to educate them in every possible manner.
I: - Being a general manager how are you able to take your decision?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - As a general manager I do have so limits to make my decision. If there
are any decisions behind my limits then I talk to the head office. Though, we have the power or
rather authority to take decisions. We have local advisors also who help to tell us the plus and
minuses therefore with this we talk with our managing director when needed or else take the
decisions on my own after analyzing the situation.
I: - Throughout your career or 30 years work life what do you consider your greatest
accomplishment throughout your career?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - The fact that people love me and I love the people I work with as a team
is a great achievement.
I: - What you like most while working with others, which types of the people do you like to
work with?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - Given any opportunity, I would like to work at any please. I like to learn
the culture, the environment, then study the behaviors and the people, mingle with them then
learn how to work with them.
I: - I would also like to ask you; obviously people have both work life and a social life? How are
you able to balance your work life and personal or social life?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - Both are different at their own places, where I am working at the
moment there is no such social work life as such it is important to consider work life 1st and then
work life.

I: - You said that were you are staying there is no social life but how are you able to cope up
with your family life.
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - With the help of technology I am able to stay with the family members.
Overseas you are not able to keep in touch or stay along with everybody, therefore technology
helps to bridge the communication gap.
I: - So who or what inspired you to work in this field?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - There are so many fields and its ones perception in which field they
would like to work in.
I: - Emotions are one thing that you need to control, how do you manage your emotions during
your work? And what are the best ways to handle our emotions at work according to you?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - There are many problems on the table; you need to handle in such a way
that you consult the hr department. It should not harm the employs or anybody; it should be
helpful to all the people depending on the situations. Depending on the situation a person should
take a decision which does not harm anyone.
I: - What are your future goals?
Mr. Suryakant Patel: - To educate my children, that is my ambition.

Openness: - his behavior revealed his openness to experience and understand situations
before taking any action.
Conscientiousness: - Mr. Suryakant Patel is not spontaneous in his actions, his
decisions are based on totally after analyzing the plus minus of various alternatives that
are in hand.
Extraversion: - He is outgoing which shows that he is extravert. His outgoing nature
makes other people want to work or interact with him.
Agreeableness: - his tendency to work with others as well as understand them by
putting himself in the others shoes shows his degree of agreeableness.

Habits of The Person


Based on the 7 habits, the habits that I observed in Mr. Suryakant Patel were
Be Proactive : - from the conversation, I observed that Mr. Suryakant Patel was taking full
responsibility, if there are any conflicts he used to take full charge of it and after analyzing
the situation he used to take his decision. It seemed that he was very much aware about what
he was doing and did take full responsibility rather than blaming it on others.
Think Win-win : - during the conversation when I asked him that if he faces any conflicts
at his work place, he takes the concern of the Hr personnel and then tries to educate the
employees about the plus and minuses. He analyses the entire situation before taking a
decision and he also said that he makes decisions that does not harm anybody. This shows
that he has a think win-win habit on the dimensions of character, relationships and
agreement.
Synergize: - Mr. Suryakant Patel believes in team work. He mentioned in the interview that
to achieve any goal employees should work as a team. His Open-mindedness to work with
everybody as a team together to achieve more, reveals his synergize habit.

He believes in keeping personal and professional work different.

My Observations
Mr. Suryakant Patel has a positive attitude towards work life, he takes his work importantly and
always considers his employees. He always thinks of win - win situation that does not affect
person. He believes in teamwork, to achieve any goal it is necessary to work as a team
During the interview, I observed that Mr. Suryakant Patel takes his decisions based on analysis
of the situation. I also observed that Mr. Suryakant Patel is very down to earth and he has good
relations with all the employees at any designation.
He is an extravert, open- minded and ready to take responsibility for his decisions or his actions.
It has been a great opportunity for having met Mr. Suryakant Patel and having heard his
experience.

ATTITUDE TOWARDS WORK- LIFE BALANCE


Mr. Suryakant Patel manages both his work life as well as social life. His office timings are from
8: 00 am - 5: 00 pm. The place where he works there is no social life as such, he believes that
work is very important and it is necessary to balance both work as well as social life.
As Mr. Suryakant is working overseas he uses technology such as internet, telephones and other
social networks to keep in touch with his dear ones. He said during the interview that it is not
possible to stay with everybody but with the help of technology one can keep in touch with the
family members.

CONCLUSION
Conducting the interview was an enormous learning opportunity. A Person has various roles in
his or her life, they need to manage it properly so that they are able to manage their work life
effectively along with personal life.
Building a good personality with a great character and value is important for professional as well
as personal life. Trust in relationships is important mostly with those you are working. The
values, character and personality of a person makes an immense difference. A persons habits or
way of thinking affects the decision made.
To achieve any goal, it is necessary to work as a team. Therefore open-mindedness is required in
any individual. Therefore, it is necessary to build a good personality, character and relationships
with the people around you.

MY LEARNINGS
This interview was a great learning experience for me. It has helped learn how one has various
roles in his or her life personally as well as professionally and how they need to allot time to
attend fairly to the various responsibilities and relationships.
Build trust in relationships is important for any role a person is playing in his life. It is crucial to
build trust with those you are working and the company that you are working with. The values,
character and personality of a person makes an immense difference. A persons habits also
affects the decision making process.
Therefore, building a good personality with a great character and value is important for
professional as well as personal life.

MY CONTRIBUTION
This interview was a great experience for me, I am very grateful to Mr. Suryakant Patel for
having shared his experience with me. On the basis of my observation and analysis based on the
7 habits and five personality model, I have created a report on the analysis and will definitely
show it to Mr. Suryakant so that he can verify what I have analyzed about him.
