PAINTING WORKS

1.0

Scope Of Works
To provide all labor, materials and equipment for the supply, delivery to site and the like to
complete the painting works

2.0

General Requirements
To comply with Section 1.0 in respect to basic procedures, materials and
workmanshipwhen applying this work
All painting works shall be performed by the manufacturer or his agent to Architects
approval and to strict manufacturers application recommendations and requirements.
Oil stains shall conform to B.S 1215
Wax polish for wood surface shall be obtained from a approved manufacturer, similar to
Ronuk or other approved brand
All works to be varnished is to be sealed an filler to match the graining of the wood is to be
used as topping over nails heads etc.
The colors and tints of paints shall be selected by the Architect and the priming, undercoats
and finishing coats shall be of different tints as directed and shall obtain from the same
manufacturer.
No paints to be brought to the site until colors have been selected by the Architect.
Each coat of paint shall be properly dried and well rubbed down with glass paper before the
next coat is applied. Each coat of paint is to be inspected and approved by the
ARCHITECT, before next coat is applied
All external pain work shall be executed in dry weather and all internal and external surface
is to be perfectly dry before any paint is applied. In no case is any successive coat of paint
to be put on until the Architects permission has been obtained
All Paints, varnish, distempers and other surface coating shall be delivered in sound and
sealed containers, labeled clearly by the manufacturer, the label or decorated container
stating: i)
Type of product
ii)

The brand name, if any

iii)

The use for which it is intended

iv)

The manufacturers batch numbe

Type Of Paints And Staining


Exterior Wall Finish
All external wall paint shall be ICI Dulux Textaclad Acrylic Finish (AR 152-Line) spray
tile
exterior paint unless stated otherwise to be ICI Weathershield. Color to Architects selection
and approval.
Surface Preparation
(Described in general however shall conform strictly to manufacturers standards)
Surface must be clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, rust,
grease, wax etc. All surface should be thoroughly rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper
and then dusted off. For large exterior area, high pressure (1500psi) water jetting is to be used.

Textured Coat (1 coat) Dulux Textaclad Textured Coat (A867-line)-19224

Interior Emulsion Paint


ICI Dulux Pantalite Emulsion Paint (A921-Line)

grease, wax etc. All surface should be thoroughly rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper
and then dusted off. If after thoroughly preparation surfaces remains powdery, or suffers from
alkali attack seal with one coat of appropriate primer

Epoxy Paint
ICI Dulux Epoxy Chemical Resistant Finishes Base (430-Line) Activator (AR275 PJ-0981)

grease, wax etc. All surface should be thoroughly rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper

Metal Paint
ICI Dulux Gloss Finish Paint (A365-Line)
All metal paint works shall be of spray painted finish. Brush finish shall not be
acceptable.

Primer (1 coat) ICI Dulux Grey Green Zinc Phosphate Primer (A500-388)

ii)

Under Coat (1 coat)- ICI Dulux Speed Undercoat (A543-101)

iii)

Finish(2 coats) ICI Dulux Gloss Finish (A365)

Road Line Paint


ICI Dulux Road Line Paint (A406)
Surface Preparation
(Described in general however shall conform strictly to manufacturers standards)
Surface must be sound, clean dry and free from defective or poorly adhering material, dirt,
grease etc. Newly laid bitumen based surface (up to six months old) will need to be sealed with
a coat of emulsion paint or shellac knotting, in order to prevent bleeding. Test area before work
commenced

Hygenic Coating
Steridex or equivalent hygienic coating

Surface must be clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, rust,
grease, wax etc. All surface should be thoroughly rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper
and then dusted off
System Requirement

Primer (1 coat) LPL Bonding Primer

ii)

2 coats of Steridex

Staining
Stain shall be obtained from approved supplier and of color or colors selected and approved by
the Architect. The Contractor is to ensure that the surfaces to be stained are clean and free
from dust, dirt, oil, stains, splinters etc.
Staining shall be evenly applied according to approved practice throughout the surfaces and
shall be free from any streaking. The Contractor shall prepare samples of different types of
timber that require staining to the Architects approval.
Clear Finish
Surfaces to receive the clear varnish must be well glass papered, clean and free from dust,
dirt, oil, stains. Splinters etc. Open grain to be filled with appropriate filler and rubbed down to
smooth surface
4.0

Workmanship

Code Of Practice
All materials, workmanship and installation shall be of the to the best quality, to manufacturers
standard and in accordance to Architects instruction. All materials shall be subjected from time
to time to such test as the Architect may direct at the place of manufacture or fabrication, or
site or at such place or places may be specified under this Specification.
Preliminary Checks
Generally prior applying the finishes the Contractor shall ensure that the following conditions
exists: i.
Timing and sequence of work agreed with other
ii.
Work by others (that could disturb the finishes) are completed
iii.
Areas of external work are adequately protected
iv.
Area of internal work are water tight
v.
Background and working surface are clean and within the specified levels, flatness
and plumb.(if not to cut away, dub out or reconstruct)

Before Commencing
i.

Remove architectural ironmongeries, luminaries and any removable fitments etc that
could contaminate by the painting work or which obstruct areas to be painted or
receiving wall lining. Do not refix until paint is fully hardened.
Liase with fitters before moving M&E equipment
Protect surfaces not intended to be coated
Protect other finishes, particularly those of absorbent nature (i.e. carpet)Check
moisture content of backgrounds
