BATTLETECH

FIELD MANUAL
REPUBLIC OF THE SPHERE

WRITTEN BY: JOHN SHADOWHAWK SISK II

INTRODUCTION
TO: First Lord Yvonne Steiner-Davion,
Avalon City, New Avalon
FROM: General Michael Daniel Ryan,
Dark Storm Military Academy, Epsilon Eridani
SUBJECT: Military Readiness Report

Yvonne,
These past few years have been kind to the Federal Republic of the Chaos
March. We have expanded our borders to include all independent planets of the
Chaos March. With the successful capture of Small World, the Duchy of Small is
no longer a threat to the region. With our latest war with the Free Worlds
League, we came out on top freeing five new worlds to add to our number. I
have already approached the Captain-General so that the incidents that
precipitated the war against our peoples will not happen again easily.
Our only current threat looming over us is that of the Capellan
Confederation and the Trinity Alliance. Next to that, the Word of Blake has been
increasing its raids into our territory along with increased attacks by their ROM
agents throughout the Republic.
The information contained within this document will help in your
understanding of our military forces deployed in and out of the Republic. The
following information is broken up into the following chapters.
New
Beginnings; this section gives a brief description on the events of the Republics
brief history.
Guardians; this section breaks down the organization and
highlights special information of the Federal Republic Armed Forces (FRAF).
Following Guardians comes the FRAF Roster listing all units currently
fielded by the Republic.
Highness I wish that this document is useful in future integration of our
forces into Star League Defense Force operations.
Regards,
General Michael Daniel Ryan
Commanding General, FRAF
24 November 3072

NEW BEGINNINGS
The history of the Republic of
the Sphere is intertwined with that
of three Mercenary units. Foremost
of these units the Northwind
Highlander Regiments once one of
the most respected Mercenary units
in the Inner Sphere. After the Free
Worlds League Operation Gurrero,
the
Northwind
Highlander
Regiments for the most part was
withdrawn from the mercenary roles
and reintroduced as the Northwind
standing army.
Several years had gone by and
the Highlanders along with the
Northwind council and ruling family
became more and more worried that
the great houses would once again
set their eyes on Northwind. With
the sudden threat that either Houses
Liao or Marik would attack them at
any moment, the Highlanders
employed the Wolfs Dragoons with
a low cost defense contract. The
contract stated that for a certain sum
the Dragoons would remain on
standby and in the case of invasion
mount a relief force.
With this pact in place, the
Highlanders did not have to worry.
However, with the rapid expansion
of the Confederation and the League

into the Chaos March the time to

worry was quickly returning.
In 3066, a new force appeared
in the March.
The Dark Storm
Legions arrived with the reckoning.
Launching assaults on three Word of
Blake
supported
worlds
and
attacking Terra itself.
With the entry of the Dark
Storm Legions under command of
General Michael Ryan, the Republic
was about to be born. A large
campaign begun to liberate worlds in
the Chaos March from foreign
interests. Under the command of
Commander Jamie Wolf of Wolfs
Dragoons and Coordinated at the
Dark Storm Headquarters on Epsilon
Eridani.
The fledgling Republic
under the name of the Northwind
Alliance attacked three worlds under
foreign siege and that requested the
help of the Alliance. On Liberty, the
fourth would to receive a contingent
of Alliance troops was attacked by
the 4th Free Worlds Legionnaires and
defended with a successful ambush
by the 2nd Dark Storm Dragoons, 10th
Eridani Guards, and the Liberty
Militia.
At the end of the campaign,
the Alliance included some seven

worlds and was well defended. The

birth of the Alliance was at hand.

FREE WORLDS FOLLY

With the support of the Free
Worlds League, the Republic was
granted nations status at the 3067
Star League Conference. This was
the Leagues undoing however. With
recognition, President Gabriel Shu of
Epsilon Eridani called for the nations
of the Inner Sphere to release any
worlds in the Chaos March region.
Both the Lyran Alliance and the
Federated Suns complied with the
request releasing eight worlds
between the two powers.
The
Draconis Combine also released two
worlds that chose to join the new
republic.
In the Free Worlds League
and the Capellan Confederation,
however things were different. The
League worlds of the Sirian
Concordant chose to succeed from
the League and join the fledgling
Republic but were rebuffed by
Captain-General Marik and two
regiments of line soldiers were sent
into the region to maintain order.
The units quickly contained the two
Sirian Lancer Regiments in the
region and ordered them to disarm.

With a plea from the Sirian

Primus, the Republic sent in the 1st
Dark Storm Legion along with the 1 st
Kearny Highlanders.
After the
battle, the two Marik Regiments had
been
bloodied
and
broken.
Retreating off planet the regiments
returned to League space. The five
worlds of the Sirian Concordant
were now free of the Free Worlds
League and part of the Republic.
When word reached the third
Sirian Lancer Regiment deep in
Marik Space the unit requested
permission to return to its home base
in the Concordant. With grudging
permission, the Regiment was
allowed to return to Republic space.
Once the conflict was over the
Republic, forces had destroyed the 1 st
Marik Militia on Fletcher, and the 4 th
Free Worlds Legionnaires on Liberty
before the Sirian succession. After
the League lost combat cohesion in
two more regiments, the Atrean
Hussars and the Iron Guard. Also
gone from the Marik roster were the
three Sirian Lancer Regiments. A
total of seven regiments had been
denied to the FLWM for the
foreseeable future.
TOUR OF THE CLAN FRONT
During the year of 3067, the 2nd
Legion was assigned to the Clan
Front along the Lyran Alliance/Jade
Falcon border. While stationed their,
the Legion entered into numerous

battles with the Falcons bloodying

both the 2nd Legion and the Falcons
in turn. After their eight-month
raiding contract was over the 2nd
legion had suffered thirty-percent
casualties and had gained valuable
experience in fighting the clans.
With their contract completed,
nd
the 2
Dark Storm Legion was
making ready to return to the newly
formed Republic to take up as a Line
unit in the Republic. Before the
Legion returned home, they received
intelligence from Wolf Net of a
Falcon BattleMech Factory on the
planet Graus. After sending word
back to Command they received a
go-ahead to launch a raid against the

plant. Their objective was to capture

as much equipment and plans for the
construction of clan BattleMechs.
The raid on Graus was indeed
fruitful. They seized ten different
BattleMechs in several stages of
completion along with a star of
completed machines. Also returned
during the raid were plans for four
different BattleMechs.
(Later
reports
will
substantiate that three of the designs
were taken in trials of possession
from other clans)
With this raid completed the
nd
2 Legion returned home from the
Clan front to lick its wounds.

GUARDIANS

The Republic of the Sphere

Armed Forces is a military on the
rise. Although still a mismatch of
mercenaries and cadet units still
undergoing training the units
forming the RAF are some of the best
trained in the Inner Sphere. With
two Academies, one on Northwind
and another newer one built by the
Dark Storm Legions on Epsilon
Eridani by the Wolfs Dragoons and
ComStar the RAF will be a potent
force in the future.
As word spreads of the
Republics fortunes against the Word
of Blake and the Free Worlds League
more soldiers from around the
sphere has petitioned to sign on with
the two remaining Mercenary
Regiments of the Dark Storm
Legions.
The two remaining
Regiments of the Dark Storm
Legions Mercenary branch the 1st
Dark Storm Light Horse Regiment
the Dark Horse and the 2nd Dark
Storm Dragoons the Terras Bane are
currently deployed through the
Inner Sphere on contracts with the
other great houses.

Currently the core of the

Republics military is centered on the
Northwind Highlanders and the
Dark Storm Legions. Several other
units currently fill out the ranks of
the RAF. Although the standard
organization for the Republic Armed
Forces is the Regiment, currently
Three Galaxies and two Clusters are
spread throughout the Republic.
COMMAND STRUCTURE
The structure of the RAF
differs very little from that of other
Inner Sphere houses and that of its
neighbor the Federated Suns.
Although still relatively young, the
RAF is one of the most potent
commands in the region.
With the formation of the
RAF came a concern over who will
lead it. This section is to clarify the
command structure of the RAF.
PRESIDENT
The President of The Republic
of the Sphere is not heavily involved
in the military aspects of the realm.
This is because of the simple fact that

the term of office is currently only

five years long. Although legislation
is on the table to extend that to ten
years as the Free Rasalhague
Republic has done.
The President is responsible
for all maters of the civilian
government and is technically overall
commander of the RAF.
The current President is
Count Gabriel Shu of Epsilon
Eridani. Not a military man himself
he has delegated the responsibility of
running the RAF to General Ryan.
COMMANDING GENERAL
The Commanding General of
the Armies was created following
the unification of the Republic of the
Sphere.
As
the
Supreme
Commander of the Republic of the
Sphere
Armed
Forces,
the
Commanding General is directly
responsible for the entire RAF and is
answerable only to the President.
To date only one officer has
served as the Commanding General.
The current Commanding General is
Michael Ryan.
RAF HIGH COMMAND
Composed
of
the
Commanders of each of major
military
department,
the
commanders of the three Regional
Commands,
the
Commanding
General and the President, the High
Command is the chief governing
body of the RAF.
While the

President retains absolute command

of the RAF, he would be foolish not
to listen to his advisors or that of the
Senate.
As a result, the High
Command often sets the tone for the
rest of the RAF, enacting policies and
determining its long-term goals. The
High Command meets in the
Strategy
Room in the
RAF
Headquarters on Epsilon Eridani.
Surrounded by the most advanced
computer systems and holo-tables,
the High Command has immediate
access to the Republics complete
information networks.
MILITARY DEPARTMENTS
The commanders of the RAFs
nine major military departments
report directly to the Commanding
General.
These departments are
mostly administrative and support
organizations; wile the RAFs combat
forces are directed through a
separate chain of command, these
departments ensure the RAF is
combat-ready.
DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY AND
NAVY
This department handles all
personnel matters within the
Regular Army, including filling
vacant billets, processing transfers
and dealing with all complaints from
the RAFs combat forces. Members
of this department coordinate as
necessary with members of the
Departments of Military Intelligence

and Department of the Army and the

Navy; he is assisted by General Alex
Stirling commander of the RAF
Regular Army, and Admiral Candace
Mancuso who commands the RAFs
Navy
DEPARTMENT OF MERCENARY
RELATIONS
Because of the small size of
the Republic of the Sphere, the RAF
is one of the Inner Spheres smallest
employers of mercenary forces. The
Department of Mercenary Relations
handles all facets of the RAFs
dealings with mercenary units, from
contract negotiations to payment and
supply. Liaison officers from this
department are assigned to each
mercenary unit in the RAFs employ
to assist these units in administrative
functions, such as supply requests,
and to pass on RAF orders.
Currently
the
RAFs
Mercenary Relations Department is
run by the Wolfs Dragoons in
relation with the Dark Storm Legion.
DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY
ADMINISTRATION
The Department of Military
Administration is responsible for
most of the tasks that do not
particularly fit into the missions of
the RAFs other departments. This
department is responsible for such
diverse assignments as payroll and
record-keeping services for the RAF,
the Medical Corps and the Chaplain

Service. The Department of Military

Administration is commanded by
General Gerhardt Schroeder.

DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY
COMMUNICATIONS AND
RESEARCH
Organized at the same time as
the RAF, the Department of Military
Communications and Research is
perhaps the most secretive of the
RAFs many branches.
This
department coordinates all research
and
development
programs
administered outside the RAFs
direct control, such as with
manufacturers
and
educational
institutions. This department also
oversees a huge staff that conducts
their own highly classified R&D
programs.
Commonly known
projects include Reverse engineering
of captured BattleMechs and other
weapons systems. Currently this
department has cleared Ryan
Armories to begin construction of
four captured clan designs.
General
Alan
Buchwald
commands this department.
DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY
EDUCATION
Responsible for the recruiting,
training and education of the RAFs
entire complement, the Department
of Military Education is perhaps the
RAFs most important division. This
department runs all of the Republic

academies and training center and

sets the standard of training for all
non-RAF educational institutions.
Additionally, it oversees the RAFs
Library and combined data bank,
including copies of the Star League
memory core recovered from
Eureka, as well as its navys Astornavigation charts. This department
is run by General Angela Pearson.
DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY
INTELLIGENCE
The current Department of
Military Intelligence is operated by
Wolf Net at the command of
Commander Jamie Wolf and the
Wolfs Dragoons. Plans are in the
works to expand this department
into its own entity.
DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY
JUSTICE
This department deals with
all matters of justice within the RAF,
from investigations and prosecution
to punishment and corrections. The
Department of Military Justice
employs its own host of lawyers and
magistrates and oversees the RAFs
Military Police corps. The RAFs
Judge Advocate General, and
commander of this department, is
General Martina McHenry.
DEPARTMENT OF STRATEGY
The Department of Strategy
was conceived by Commander Jamie
Wolf and Colonel William McLeod

as part of the integration of

command structures for all of the
different militaries that form the
RAF. This department was designed
to work on different strategies to be
used against the current threats to
the Republic. The commander of
this Department is Lieutenant
General Damien Gramata.
DEPARTMENT
OF
THE
QUARTERMASTER
The Department of the
Quartermaster is responsible for
keeping the RAF supplied. One
subdivision is responsible solely for
coordinating with the RAFs many
departments and military industries
throughout the Inner Sphere for
purchasing new and replacement
equipment. Other divisions disburse
the supplies and keep the RAFs
equipment
operating.
The
department set up depots within the
Republic to keep the RAF operating.
In major military operations, the
department sets up forward supply
depots to keep the supply lines short.
While the department set up a
forward depot on Sirius to support
the Concordats defense against the
Free Worlds League.
General
Michael Aleixandre commands this
always-important department.

COMBAT ORGANIZATIONS
Most of the RAFs units are
part of a larger organization, such as
the Dark Storm Legions. Though
historically
these
organizations
effectively
functioned
as
an
independent military, with their own
regulations and supply lines, they
were all eventually absorbed into the
Republic Armed Forces main chain
of command.
The commanders of these
organizations retain much of their
authority,
coordinating
reassignments with the High
Command and ensuring that the
units under their command are taken
care of.
FORCE STRUCTURE
The RAF groups its forces into
five broad categories, described
below.
REGULAR ARMY UNITS
The Regular Army contains
the best-trained and best-equipped
soldiers in the RAF. The Regular
Army fields over a hundreds of
regiments, including not only the
high-profile BattleMech regiments
but also conventional armor and
infantry units. Approximately half
of the Regular Armys forces are

organized as independent units,

while the other half forms Brigades
or other large combat groups. Each
Regular Army unit is assigned its
own integral Dropship transport.
Many of the Regular Army
units under the RAFs authority fall
under the purview of a larger
military organization, such as the
Dark Storm Legions or the
Northwind Highlanders.
Many
more, however, are considered
independent. A majority of these
orphaned units have their origins
on the various planets that form the
Republic.
LEGIONS
At the heart of the RAFs
combat doctrine is the combinedarms Legions. As with every other
modern military, the BattleMech is
the RAFs primary weapon. The
RAF does not consider the
BattleMech its only effective weapon,
however.
On paper, the Legion consists
of two BattleMech Regiments, two
Mechanized Infantry Regiments, one
Armor Regiment, an independent
artillery
battalion,
and
one
Aerospace Wing. After the Sirian
Conflict, the RAF has begun a large
and expensive campaign to convert
all of the Mechanized Infantry
Regiments
into
Mechanized
Armored
Infantry
Regiments.
Utilizing the Grey Death Light

Battle-Armor as the new infantry

alternative the RAF plans to have
every platoon in the RAFs legions
converted over to this light battle
armor setup.
GALAXIES AND CLUSTERS
Another of the highly used
organizations in the RAF is the
Cluster.
Normally composed of
three BattleMech and Battle-Armor
Trinaries, one Armor supernova
Trinary (a combined arms unit of
three stars of Tanks and three Stars
of Battle-Armor), and one Aerospace
binary.
Several of these Clusters can
be formed into a Galaxy. Only two
Galaxies are currently operating as
Regular Army units. A two more
Galaxies are planed to formed but
current estimates place them at
another two years until sufficient
personal
rotate
through
the
academies to fill out the officer corps.
RESERVE UNITS
Reserve units are like those of
regional militias of other nations.
Mustered to defend the Republic
from invasion. There are two types
of Reserve Units, described below.
ARMY RESERVE
The primary mission of each
RAF Army Reserve unit is to support
larger operations by providing rear
area guard or to provide garrison of
captured worlds.
Each Army
Reserve Unit is a combined arms

Brigade. Containing one BattleMech

Battalion, two Mechanized Infantry
Battalions,
one
Attack
VTOL
Battalion, a Combat Engineering
Battalion, and one Combat Service
Support Battalion.
These Reserve Brigades do not
field the latest combat equipment
and vehicles, as most of this is routed
first to the Regular Army units. They
are, however, on the second supply
tier and are eligible to receive new
equipment once the majority of the
Regular Army has been supplied.
Reserve units are only allowed
to operate inside of the Republic.
They may operate outside the
Republic only under orders of the
Commanding General or the Main
Political body.
Each Brigade
Commander is assigned a very
limited amount of transport assets
and must be supplied with transport
from Naval command in order to
take part in anything other then
defending the planets they are
stationed on.
PLANETARY MILITIA
The planetary militias are the
RAFs final line of defense. These
militias are organized and equipped
by governments of each Republic
world.
Training is accomplished
either through RAF training facilities
or by those operated by local
militias, if they have sufficient
resources.
Although planetary
militias are technically not an

element of the RAF, High Command

has the express authority of the
President to take command of and
mobilize any or all of the planetary
militias.
Planetary militias must rely
upon taxes collected from the
worlds residents to equip their
forces. As a result, planetary units
rarely see anything but the oldest
and most outdated equipment unless
they have a benefactor of some sort.
The RAF often assigns older
equipment that has been retired or
otherwise replaced to these militias
rather then scrap them.
Planetary militias, with few
exceptions, field only conventional
armor and infantry units. Militias
commonly number anywhere from a
mixed regiment on the smallest
planets to dozens of active and
reserve regiments on the most
populated ones. Few, if any, of these
militias possess their own transport
capability.
TRAINING UNITS
The RAF has followed the
example of the AFFS and the DCMS
in adding training units to its rolls.
Staffed with inexperienced students
under the tutelage of veteran officers
and trainers, these units give the
students the real-life seasoning they
require before they can move on to a
Regular Army unit.
FORCE COMPOSITION

Like most of the Inner Sphere,

the RAF breaks down its combined
arms component units into several
categories.
BATTLEMECH UNITS
Regardless of its reliance upon
a combined-arms principle, the
RAFs combat unit of choice is the
BattleMech, much as it is in every
other modern military. Mech units
form the core of each of the RAFs
heavily used Legions, as well as a
number of high profile independent
regiments and clusters. With few
exceptions, the BattleMech-equipped
forces are the first units to see
combat in any military action and, in
those cases where a retreat is called,
the last to leave.
RAF
BattleMechs
are
normally grouped into companies
and battalions with elements of like
capability and performance. From
these, entire regiments are formed,
each with different capabilities and
strengths. The High Command does
not try to dictate a standardized
table of organization and equipment
for its entire BattleMech force,
instead
often
delegating
responsibility for a particular
regiments TO&E to its parent
organization
and
commanding
officer, so long as the materiel is
available.
Currently the RAF is perhaps
one of the most technologically
advanced of any in the Inner Sphere.

This is accomplished by the

discovery of the Eureka depot and
subsequent raids into the Clan
Occupation zone.
Currently the RAF BattleMech
force majority of BattleMechs are
centered on chassis's like the VLKQD1 Valkyrie, OTT-9CS Ostscout,
PXH-4L Phoenix Hawk, SHD-5D
Shadow Hawk, TDR-9M Thunderbolt,
ARC-8M
Archer,
WHM-8D
Warhammer, and the MAD-5L
Marauder. These designs were taken
from the Word of Blake data banks
on Terra and Mars during the Dark
Storm Legions assault on the system
before the Republic was formed.
Other older designs permeate
the ranks of the RAF although they
are more and more being assigned to
reserve and militia units.
The RAF also fields two
Omni-Mech designs as well as
several Clan designed BattleMechs
that are quickly filling out the ranks
of the Dark Storm Legions and the
Northwind Highlanders.
These
designs include the TLR1-O Templar,
as the only Inner Sphere built OmniMech built by Ryan Armories.
Currently one clan designed Mech
the Kit Fox is being built by the
Wolfs Dragoons and deployed
throughout the RAF.
Other clan designs taken from
the Jade Falcons and the Wolves are
currently being built at the number
two Ryan Armories production
facility on Northwind.
These

designs are the Spirit, Lobo, Rabid

Coyote, and the Arcas. Some of these
BattleMechs were designed to use
Heavy Lasers but the Ryan Armories
Scientist have yet to make a safe and
stable Heavy Laser system that the
pilot can survive firing. Unlike the
Advanced Tactical Missile System
the Heavy Laser weapon systems
looks to be non-feasible without
outside help.
INFANTRY UNITS
The
Conventional
infantryman forms the backbone of
the RAF, accounting for some twothirds of Regular Armys regiments
currently in service. That percentage
grows even larger when the various
Reserve and Planetary militia units
are taken into account.
With the RAF, conventional
infantry units are broken into a
number of different categories and
missions.
The most common
infantry units are foot and motorized
regiments, though these nits are
generally employed only in static
roles due to their lack of mobility.
Mechanized infantry units are
equipped with armored personal
carriers and often some organic
armor elements, giving them the
mobility needed to keep up with
other units. Jump infantry are the
least common infantry unit found in
the RAF, simply because they are the
most difficult to train and the most
expensive to operate, and thus are

rarely found outside a Legion or

Brigade.
Apart from their designation
into foot, motorized, mechanized
and jump categories, each of the
RAFs
conventional
infantry
regiments is grouped into a few
different missions.
Line infantry
units are assigned to Brigades and
Legions, respectively.
Forward
Deployment Infantry units normally
follow the first waves of an invasion
force, reinforcing and supporting the
front lines. Primary Relief Infantry
units are commonly assigned to
clean-up and garrison duties,
holding an invasion forces rear
areas. Special Infantry are available
for special assignments, usually
through the High Command. Home
Guard Infantry units man the final
line of defense as part of the
planetary militias.
BATTLE-ARMOR UNITS
Battle Armor units form the
bulk of the offensive infantry forces.
Deployed mostly in Clusters and the
three Dark Storm Legions battlearmor is the most populated infantry
unit in offensive formations.
Currently the 1st and 2nd Dark
Storm Legions are have had their
entire mechanized infantry force
replaced by Mechanized BattleArmor units. There are two main
types of Battle-Armor suits being
used by the RAF with one other
being used by Special Forces and a

fourth being developed as a RAF

signature project.
The
battle-armor
units
currently in use are, for standard
infantry replacement as in the new
Mechanized
Armored
Infantry
Regiments field the Grey Death
Light Battle-Armor Suits. Forming
the bulk of the heavy battle-armor
suits being used to support Mech
forces is the Grey Death Standard
Battle-Armor. These two suits were
licensed by the son and only
surviving member of the Carlyle
family, and owner of the Grey Death
Legions assets in return for the help
in rebuilding the Legion to the size it
once was.
The suit currently fielded by
RAF Special Forces is the Word of
Blake designed Purifier Adaptive
Light Battle-Armor Suit. Designed
to mimic the environment around it
the Purifier is the ultimate in
infiltration gear.
And last the RAF and Ryan
Armories is currently developing its
own battle-armor suit based on
captured
clan
designs
and
equipment. Having some of the best
reverse engineers and scientist in the
Inner Sphere outside the NAIS the
RAF and Ryan Armories expect the
new suit to be in service by 3075.
CONVENTIONAL ARMOR UNITS
While far less predominate
then
infantry
units,
armored
regiments outnumber the Regular

Armys BattleMech complement by a

ratio of slightly more then five to
one. Just as the RAF fields a number
of Mech designs, so too does it
operate a myriad of armored vehicles
designs, with no single class
dominating the RAFs armor corps.
Unlike the armored corps of
other nations, the RAF has come to
issuing armored regiments to
planetary garrisons only. With the
exception of the Legions and
Galaxies. Until such a time as when
more of the newer vehicle designs
are built or purchased most of the
Armor Regiments currently serving
the RAF will be relegated to
planetary militias and reserve
formations.
AEROSPACE UNITS
The RAFs combined-arms
paradigm is not limited to just its
ground forces, as the enemies of the
Republic of the Sphere have often
learned throughout its brief history.
Just as with every other force type,
the RAF groups its aerospace forces
into several different categories.
Regimental wings provide dedicated
support to the BattleMech Regiments
they permanently attached to. Naval
Wings are permanently assigned to a
naval task force or Warship and
provide for local defense of these
valuable assets and long-range
interception of enemy naval forces.
Independent
Wings
are
not
permanently attached to any ground

unit and instead can be tasked to

support nearly any type of combat
unit. Ground Support Wings consist
mostly of conventional aircraft and
are dedicated to close air-support
missions.
Air Guard units are
aerospace forces assigned to a militia
or Reserve formation.
When assigned together, two
or more aerospace wings are often
grouped into an aero regiment, the
Dark Storm Legions each currently
field one Aerospace Regiment.
NAVAL UNITS
Unlike the navies operated by
the Inner Spheres other major
powers, the Republic of the Spheres
Naval Service is currently weak in
and contains a small number of
Assault DropShips. Most of the
Naval Service is made up of troop
transports and Merchant ships.
The main organization of the
RAFs Naval Service is the Fleet or
Flotilla and is comprised of several
JumpShips designed to transport
both military forces and merchant
traders. The second organizational
group is the Naval Assault Taskforce.
Based around one of the few
Warships owned by General Ryan
and still independent of the RAF but
currently on loan to the Republic for
purpose of defense and offensive
support.
Each Taskforce is assigned
one Warship and escorted by at least
one Naval Squadron of Aerospace

fighters but in cases like the Dark

Storm the flagship of the Republic
fleet a whole Naval Aerospace
Regiment is assigned to the ship,
with another supporting wing
assigned to JumpShip and Dropship
escort groups.

RAF WARSHIP FLEET

Admiral Candace Mancuso
commands the current RAF Fleet.
An officer who served with General
Ryan for years both in the AFFS and
later when he took over the TransStar Shipping Lines fleet from his
dead parents. It is her drive and that
of Commanding General Ryan that
has brought the RAF to begin
construction of their own Warship
fleet. Although many designs are on
the board and the Shipyards at
Epsilon Indi and Liberty have been
completed it will still take a several
more years before the RAF can field
its own Warship.
The RAF fleet currently
consists of the McKenna-class RSS
Dark Storm, the Aegis-class RSS White
Squall and RSS Thundercloud, the
Sovetskii Soyuz-class RSS Hurricane
and RSS Typhoon, the Congress-class
RSS Eureka and RSS Outreach form
the combat force of the fleet. In
addition to the Warships are several
armed transport ships, the Potemkinclass RSS Albatross and the Volgaclass RSS Curahee and RSS Carryall.

In the future, the RAF plans to

build several corvette and frigate
class ships hopefully to be followed
by its own Cruiser class vessel.
THE RAF UNIFORM
Although the Republic does
not have an official uniform for its
officers and enlisted men it has come
to server that two separate types of
uniform styles exists in the RAF
Military. The majority of the RAF
wears the uniform adopted by the
Dark Storm Legions with the
acceptation of the Northwind
Highlanders who wish to retain their
traditional dress and field uniforms.
This request was granted by both the
President and the Senate and
approved by Commanding General
Ryan.
DRESS UNIFORM
The dress uniform of the RAF
is a stylized version of the Dark
Storm Legions dress uniform. A
black base and dark blue from the
shoulders up tunic with a high

patch.
Displayed on the left breast the
ribbons and medals located below
the special training badges such as
Flight and Jump wings.
On the right breast the
individuals nameplate and any
foreign awards he had received prior
to his admittance to the RAF.
The Uniforms trousers were a
mix between the black and dark blue
same as the tunic. The trousers are
all black with a dark blue stripe
going down the outside of each leg.
A gold, silver, blue or white belt
signifying the branch of service
complete the uniform.
Although the RAF dress
uniform is not as fancy as those worn
by the rest of the Inner Sphere. The
soldiers and sailors of the RAF have
taken pride in their uniform and
have gotten into several brawls with
other SLDF units while stationed
along the Clan Occupation zone
removed their tunics as not to
disgrace the uniform of their new
nation.
FIELD/COMBAT UNIFORM
The RAFs field uniform is
based on a black jerkin over a dark
blue jersey. This utility uniform is
standard throughout the RAF.
Although this is the basic officer and
enlisted field uniform, combat
conditions dictate a more flexible
uniform.

For combat personal mainly

infantry and armored crewmembers.
The RAF has issued a black jump
suit to be worn under a vest or jacket
colored or camouflaged upon the
conditions of the local environment.
Combat and other field troops
add a simple field jacket, made with
bullet
and
laser-resistant
polycarbonate weave, giving them a
basic level of protection against
enemy fire and the elements.
Infantrymen also wear form-fitting
body armor and packs or other loadbearing equipment.
A helmet
provides head protection for the
wearer and displays his or her rank.
The helmets of most Regular Army
soldiers are also equipped with an
integral night-vision and rangefinder
scope.
MECHWARRIOR UNIFORM
MechWarriors wear a far
more abbreviated uniform while
operating their combat machines.
RAF command has regulated the
MechWarrior to wear a sleeveless
and legless bodysuit to be worn
under a cooling vest. This simple
article of clothing can be worn under
a jump suit to allow for quick change
into and out of a Mech.
Although
most
house
militaries allow their MechWarriors
to be allowed to wear anything they
wish to in the confines of a
BattleMech. The RAF feels that a
greater sense of uniformity is needed

for its Mech force to identify with the

rest of the combat branches.
AEROSPACE PILOT UNIFORM
Like
their
MechWarrior
brethren, RAF aerospace pilots wear
a full-body suit, though one that
incorporates a number of specialized
bladders that assist the pilot in
dealing with the stresses of high-G
maneuvers.
In addition, this
aerospace suit is airtight when the
helmet is sealed, allowing the pilot to
survive for up to an hour in a hostile
environment with just the small
oxygen tank attached to the suit.
Outside
the
cockpit,
pilots
commonly wear the standard jerkin
or jump suit the rest of the RAF
wears. Rank insignia, when worn, is
displayed on the helmet and the
bodysuits shoulders.
TECHNICIAN UNIFORM
Technical crews wear the
same jump suit as infantrymen
though they add a vest with a
number of small pockets and hooks
sewn into it to hold their most
commonly used tools. Rank insignia
is worn centrally on the chest of this
fire-retardant
and
electrically
insulated vest. Other protective gear
is worn as necessary.
RAF RANK STRUCTURE
As
with
the
uniforms
themselves, the rank structure of the
RAF is still being worked out.

Officially, all elements of the RAF

continue to operate under the SLDF
rank structure. Nevertheless, some
units however have chosen to keep
their previous rank structure such
units as the Northwind Highlanders
and several of the planetary militias
have chosen this option.

COMMANDING GENERAL
The Commanding General is
the supreme military commander of
the RAF. Their has only been one
Commanding General as yet and
that is Michael Daniel Ryan formerly
of the Dark Storm Legions.
A
Commanding General Appointed
from the army wears four of the
sword, shield, and crossed lighting
bolts of a General officer, while a
Commanding General appointed
from the navy, also known as a
Commanding Admiral, wears four
stripes on the tunics lapels.
GENERAL
Generals
command
a
service
command
(BattleMech,
Armor,
Infantry branch, and so on).
Generals also command many of the
administration branches as well as
major planetary militias. The naval
rank of admiral is supreme
commander of the RAF navy,
denoted by three stripes. Generals
wear three of the sword, shield, and

crossed lighting bolts of a General

officer.
MAJOR GENERAL
Major Generals serve as Division or
Legion commanders. Alternatively,
they may command an Army
Reserve Brigade.
The naval
equivalent, vice admiral, serves as
theater commander for the RAF
navy. Two of the sword, shield, and
crossed lighting bolts of a General
officer denote a Major General while
two stripes indicate a vice admiral.
LIEUTENANT GENERAL
Lieutenant
Generals
command Brigades or serve as
Legion executive officers. The naval
variant, rear admiral, commands a
fleet. A single sword, shield, and
crossed lighting bolts insignia of a
General officer denotes a Lieutenant
General, while rear admirals wear a
single stripe.
COLONEL
Colonels serve as regimental
commanders or as brigade XOs and
are the highest rank directly involved
in battles.
In the RAF navy, a
commodore commands a major
Warship or small JumpShip flotilla.
Both are indicated by a sword laid
over a shield.
MAJOR
As in most Successor State
militaries, majors serve as battalion

commanders in the RAF. The navy

version is a captain, who commands
a small Warship, a transport
JumpShip, or an aerospace wing.
Both major and captain use a shield
to denote their rank.
CAPTAIN
Captains serve as company
commanders in the army and act as
front-line commanders in battle. The
naval rank of commander serves as
XO on a Warship or JumpShip, or as
commander of a Dropship or an
aerospace flight.
Their rank is
shown by two crossed lighting bolts
over a shield.
LIEUTENANT, SG JG
Lieutenants serve as platoon
or lance commanders in the Army or
as section heads on a naval vessel.
Lieutenant is also the most junior
naval rank allowed to command a
watch.
In the navy, a senior
lieutenant may also command an
aerospace squadron while a junior
lieutenant serves as an aero lance
commander.
Lieutenants wear a
single Lighting bolt to which senior
lieutenants add a second crossed
over the first.
MASTER SERGEANT
A master sergeant (master
chief petty officer in the navy) is the
senior NCO in a unit or on a
JumpShip or Warship.
Three

upwards facing chevrons and one

downward rounded denotes them.
SERGEANT
Sergeants serve as front-line
commanders, either in conjunction
with a junior officer or as
commanders of an infantry platoon.
The unofficial rank of MechWarrior
is in fact sergeant. The naval variant,
chief petty officer, heads a work
party or serves as senior NCO on a
Dropship. The rank of sergeant is
shown by three upwards facing
chevrons.
CORPORAL
Corporals and Petty officers
are experienced enlisted personnel
who serve as squad commanders
and work-party heads. Their rank is
shown by two upwards facing
chevrons.
PRIVATE/PRIVATE, 1ST CLASS
Privates and spacemen form
the bulk of the RAF personnel. After
their first battle they are promoted to
private, first class (PFC) or able
spaceman with a small pay increase.
Their rank is shown by no visible
rank insignia only private, first class
and able spaceman have a single
chevron denoting their rank.
AWARDS AND DECORATIONS
For the most part, the RAF
has no real awards or decorations.
Currently they only use campaign

ribbons to denote where the unit had

fought. Two awards will be issued to
members of the 1st Dark Storm
Legion who went to the aid of the
Sirian
Concordance.
Two
MechWarriors will receive the
Republic Medal of Honor for their
defense in the retreating 1st Sirian
Lancers. These two soldiers died
while holding off a Marik battalion.
The other award being issued
is the Purple Heart an ancient Terran
award given to those who have been
wounded in battle.

The only child of Marry and John Ryan, General Ryan chose for himself
the military life leaving his family business as soon as he qualified for and passed
the NAMA tests. Scoring high in his class Ryan was given a lance command in
the 11th Lyran Guards and stationed along the Free Worlds League boarder.
When the clans attacked in 3050, Ryans unit was shifted to the core-ward
boarder of the Federated Commonwealth. After fighting the Jade Falcons on
Sudeten and watched as his company died around him.
After taking command of the remains of his company, Ryan retreated back
to their DropShips and off planet with the rest of the RCT. Once in the rear area
Ryan was reassigned to the 1 st FedCom RCT and given command of a company.
Later Ryan made his way up through the ranks and made Major and given a
Battalion to command.
After Ryan retired from the AFFS following the end of the clan war and
the usurping of the throne of the Federated Commonwealth. Ryan went to work
in his families business and was soon owner when his parents died in a shuttle
accident in the Addicks system.
On a deep periphery supply mission, Ryan had decided to go along.
During this mission to re-supply, a forward Explorer Corps base Ryans four
JumpShips stumbled across a secret Star League Defense Force depot in the later
renamed Eureka system. And the birth of the Dark Storm Legions began.

SUBJECT: MacLeod, William
POSITION: Colonel, Commander of the Northwind District
BORN: 3005 (unknown where and what month he was born)
CAREER:
Northwind Military Academy (Student) 3020-24
1st Kearny Highlanders (Lance) 3024-30
Stirlings Fusiliers (Company) 3030-35
McLeods Regiment (Battalion-Regiment CO,XO-CO) 3035-Presnet

Colonel William MacLeod is a father figure, not just for those close to him,
but for his entire regiment. His stern yet respectful, sometimes even loving style
of command has earned him the devotion of all those who have served under
him even for a shot time. However, an exceptional MechWarrior, his greatest
ability lies in leadership. His every word and action tells those under his
command that he will always do what is best for the regimentand the
Highlanders as a whole, when he acts as commander of all of the Highlander
regimentsregardless of the consequences.
MacLeod demonstrated this trait most spectacularly when he chose to stay
neutral in the Liao-Marik war against the Federated Commonwealth. After the
initial attacks, Katherine Steiner-Davion declared the Lyran half of the Federated
Commonwealth held apart in this state of emergency, and renamed it the Lyran
Alliance. Realizing the danger the Highlanders regiments were in, employed by
Prince Victor Steiner-Davion and scattered across the Lyran/Jade Falcon border,
Macleod ordered all of them to leave their posts and return home to Northwind.
The subsequent actions of Federated Commonwealth military units against
MacLeods Regiment on Northwind showed the fragility of relationship between
House Davion and the Highlanders, vindicating MacLeods decision.
A tall man with a commanding presence, Colonel MacLeod has the
vitality of a man half his age, though the gray in his beard and in his dark hair
reveals the toll taken by the years and the stresses of his position.

MILITARY ACADEMIES
The military academy has
always been the preferred school of
choice in the Inner Sphere for leaders
to draw recruits from. Because these
academies rarely spare any expense
in training their students, the cost of
a private academy education is
prohibitive to all but the most
affluent families. Those lucky few

who gain admittance to a state-run

academy
are
guaranteed
an
outstanding education at no cost,
though they are required to serve a
minimum time in the RAF, usually
six to eight years.
The RAF draws recruits from
three primary academies scattered
throughout the Republic of the

Sphere. Students graduating from

one of the primary schools receive a
better education and are often held
in higher regard by many officers
within the RAF. These academies
also run specialized courses for
existing RAF officers and noncoms
who wish to advance their education
or cross-train in a different specialty.
Though only two main
academies are in operation by the
Republic Armed Forces, recruits are
allowed to attend the OMTC School
on Outreach operated by the Wolfs
Dragoons.
DARK STORM MILITARY
ACADEMY
The Dark Storm Academy is
fifteen kilometers outside of the
main Dark Storm base on Epsilon
Eridani, in the County of Shu. Built
their for the purpose of supplying
the Legions with their own core of
trained soldiers General Ryan
decided to open its doors to
ComGuard and SLDF applicants due
to the help he received from the
ComGuards in setting up the
facility.

With the agreement reached

by General Ryan and President Shu
Ryan opened the doors to the
Republic Armed Forces.
Boasting one of the best nonacademy training centers as well as
the largest combat simulation field
off Outreach the DSMA is perhaps
rivaled only by such schools as the
Negelring, NAMA, and the Focht
War Collage.
With skilled
instructors in everything from
BattleMechs to administrative work,
the DSMA is expected to become the
primary military training facility in
the Republic.
NORTHWIND MILITARY ACADEMY
The
Northwind
Military
Academy was built in the early
twenty-third century and was
designed to train the planetary
garrison
and
the
Northwind
Highlander regiments.
Currently we do not have the
full description of activities and
capabilities of the NMA, and we
hope to update this document at a
later date.

RAF ROSTERS

This section describes the history,

command structure, and available
forces and composition, highlighting
outstanding officers and trademark
tactics where appropriate, of every
major combat command associated
with The Republic of the Sphere
Armed Forces.
Each command follows the
standard RAF organizational and
command structure unless otherwise
noted. Each type of unit within a
command is identified by one of the
following symbols, indicating its

predominant

composition:

Each
commands
entry
includes its designation (Legion,
Brigade, and so on), insignia, size,
quality and loyalty rating. Official
nicknames, a standing tradition
within the RAF Regular Army, are
included with those units that have
them. Unit size ranges from a single
squad or lance to one or more
companies, battalions, regiments or
wings.

Quality ratings represent an

estimate of a units overall skill and
combat experience. Units given high
ratings perform better on the whole
than those with lower ratings,
regardless of other factors. Quality
ratings are assigned and regularly
updated
by
the
RAF
High
Commands operations directorate.
Standard RAF ratings are
green, regular, veteran and elite. A
green rating is given to units
predominantly composed of new
recruits or inexperienced soldiers.
Regular units contain troops of
average abilities and competent
soldiers
with
some
combat
experience or advanced training.
Veteran units employ troops with
greater battle experience and skill
and are generally reserved for vital
or dangerous missions. Elite units
are composed of the most highly
trained,
experienced
and
knowledgeable troops. Because elite
units are relatively rare, commanders
reserve them for vita offenses and for
defending
key
positions
and
persons.
The Department of Military
Intelligence assigns loyalty ratings to
every unit based on many factors,
but primarily on the loyalty of the
units key officers.
This rating
applies to loyalty solely toward the
nation the unit is currently serving
in.
RAF regulations prohibit
revealing loyalty ratings to anyone
outside the DMI and the High

Command, though observant officers

can often make educated guesses.
The standard loyalty ratings
are questionable, reliable, and
fanatical.
Questionable units are
composed of potentially disloyal or
seditious troops and bear close
watching. The members of reliable
units demonstrate consistent, loyal
and appropriate conduct. Fanatical
units display loyalty to their nation
that knows no bounds.

1ST ERIDANI GUARDS:

FREEDOMS BRIGADE
Formed during the baptism of the Liao-Marik war and the Federated
Commonwealths withdrawal from the region, the Eridani Guards were formed
from the remnants of several mercenary companies and the planetary militia.
After taking sever losses against a Liao invasion force the Guards were forced to
repair and re-supply.
In 3062, the Eridani Guards were split into two battalions and the 2 nd
Battalion was sent to Ingress to help the planet resist the predations of the Duchy
of Small. Although later the 1 st Battalion was sent to help the Duchy proved to
powerful to resist and the Eridani Guards retreated off planet.
The Eridani Guards insignia is a shield with two lances crossed over the
world of Epsilon Eridani. The Regiment sports an olive drab paint scheme that
they highlight in white.
OFFICERS
Since the election of President Benton, he has turned command of the
regiment over to his son Nathan. Nathan is seen by many as a political
appointee, do not take this at face value. Colonel Nathan Benton is a fair
tactician but what he excels at is defense.
TACTICS
The 1st Eridani Guards specialize in defensive and recon tactics using their
lighter units to maneuver around and bringing truth to the term a good defense
is a better offense. The unit harasses its target and nibbles at the flanks forcing
the opposing force to draw in its recon screen and skirmishers or risk losing
them.

1st INGRESS CAVALRY:

PROUD TO BE FREE
The Ingress Cavalry is one of the newest units in the RAF having only
been in service for three years. The unit was formed from volunteers and the
remains of the shattered Ingress Militia. The unit has an infinity against the
Small worlds units currently serving in the RAF but have decided to put the past
to rest and try and work together.
Not having seen combat yet the Regiment is eager to prove its self to its
benefactor Commanding General Ryan as it was his personal company the
equipped the regiment with its Battalion of BattleMechs.
The Cavalry paints its BattleMechs and vehicles in a white, black, and grey
pattern. The insignia of the 1 st Ingress Cavalry is a Black Horse set against a
Silver shield.
OFFICERS
Colonel Martinez has been trying to shape his unit into a medium weight
fast response force. Having grown up in the Federated Commonwealth corps
along with General Ryan, Colonel Maria Martinez is a great tactician when it
comes to using inadequate resources to fight a much larger battle.
TACTICS
The Ingress Cavalry is a medium weight fast rapid response unit.
Although a green unit the Cavalry is out fitted with some of the latest designs in
use by the Republic, such as, the Spirit, Lobo, Rabid Coyote, Phoenix Hawk, and
Valkyrie. This unit is adept at dropping into hostile territory and rescuing a
trapped unit or destroying an enemys rear areas.

1ST CAPH REGULARS:

PISSED OFF CATS
Formed after the liberation of their world by the Northwind Highlanders,
the 1 Caph Regulars are one of the oldest units in the Republic although only by
a year or so at most. Formed around a core of volunteers and equipped almost
entirely from battle field salvage this unit has only has its upper most command
rotated through either of the main Republic Academies and is currently awaiting
its rotation cycle through the main Combat Simulation Field on Epsilon Eridani.
The Caph Regulars in tribute to their savories the two Northwind
Highlander regiments that landed on their world and drove off their occupiers.
The regiment chooses to paint their BattleMechs and Vehicles in olive drab and
across the wait section of all their Mechs and in a line around the turrets of their
tanks; they paint at black and red tartan pattern.
The insignia of the 1st Caph Regulars is a bobcat showing its middle claw.
st

OFFICERS
Colonel Erik Tyler was once an officer in the ComGuard 9 th Division he is
adept at combined arms warfare and was a perfect choice for command of the
Regulars.
TACTICS
The Regulars operate as a reserve unit but on continuous active duty
status. Designed to be the lead in any reserve formation in its regional command
the Regulars excel in defensive tactics and have a modest understanding of
planetary assaults.

ALPHA GALAXY: ERIDANI GUARDS

Alpha Galaxy is a novel
approach to warfare in the Inner
Sphere. Apart from the Clans and
ComGuards Invader Galaxy, no
other Inner Sphere nation fields a
Galaxy.
Formed before the Republic
was even considered the Eridani
Guards taking their name from the
1st Guards Regiment was formed as a
planetary defense force to be
stationed on Epsilon Eridani and
Ingress. A pet project of General
Ryan to relive his Legions from
having to leave a garrison behind on
Epsilon Eridani.
Having
acted
as
the
workhorse unit during the initial
formation of the Republic the
Eridani Guards Galaxy deployed to
Hall and Liberty to help defeat
Marik and Liao forces on or about to
attack. While the first two Clusters
were forward deployed, the third
Galaxy along with the 1 st Eridani
Guards landed on Small World and
captured the Duke of Small
effectively eliminating the threat
poised by his world to the Republic.
COMMANDING OFFICER

Major General Robert Veck

commands the Eridani Guards
Galaxy from the Command Center
on Epsilon Eridani.
Formerly
commander of the County Shu
Volunteer Battalion the President
Shus personal guard, General Veck
was recommended for the position
by both President Shu and Colonel
Kelly commander of the 9th Eridani
Guards.
FORCES
As one of the Republic of the
Spheres
primary
combat
organizations, the Guards have in
theory unrestricted access to the
DQs supply chain.
Since the
addition of the Sirian Concordance
to the Republic though supply of
new equipment has been shifted to
rebuild the battered Regiments of the
Sirian Lancers and the 1st Dark Storm
Legion.
Each of the Clusters are
equipped with three mixed Trinaries
of two BattleMech stars and one
Battle-Armor
star.
Another
Supernova Trinary containing three
stars of Armor and three stars of
Battle-Armor.
Rounding out the

force is a Binary of Aerospace

fighters.
COLORS AND INSIGNIA

The Eridani Guards prefer a

ceremonial black with dark blue
paint scheme with highlights unique
to each unit. The Guards insignia is
gold sword set against a silver shield.

9TH ERIDANI GUARDS:

THE BLACK HORSE
The 9th Eridani Guards Cluster was formed at the request of then General
Michael Ryan commander of the Mercenary unit the Dark Storm Legions, as a
defense and garrison force for the planets of Epsilon Eridani and Ingress.
Although none of the Guards Clusters ever had a chance to actually garrison
either of the two worlds, the ninth Guards did play an important role in the
liberation of Hall from Liao mercenaries and the capture of the 2 nd Canopian
Cuirassiers when they attempted to assault the world and take it in the name of
the Capellan Confederation.
The Ninth uses a variant on the standard Guards paint scheme, adding
white highlights to the black and dark blue. The unit insignia is the gold sword
and silver shield motif of the Guards, underneath which is the number 9.
OFFICERS
Colonel Tybalt Kelly also known as Mr. Chill by his classmates back on
Epsilon Eridani the nickname has seemed to follow Kelly to his new unit. A
former officer in the County Shu Volunteer Battalion back on Epsilon Eridani
Kelly was key in the ending of the planets civil war between the Country Shu
and the Duvic Palatine.
TACTICS
The Ninth is versed in all kinds of tactical options and not specializing in
any particular one. Although the Ninth is very good at bluffing their enemy,
they are also very good at divided force operation and kick in the door invasions.

10TH ERIDANI GUARDS: BATTLING BASTARDS OF

LIBERTY
The Tenth Guards were formed as the second Cluster in the Galaxy and
were selected to be stationed on Ingress. With the Wolf Net discovery of the 4 th
Free Worlds Legionnaires planed assault on Liberty they were assigned to the
planet as its garrison force upon the request of the planetary government. Once
the Free Worlds League discovered their orders the Tenth managed to sneak the
2nd Dark Storm Dragoons on planet with them and surprised the 4 th in a series of
false battles and running fire fights. Once in the heavy forests on the planet the
2nd Dragoons ambushed the Legionnaires and along with the Tenth managed to
force them into surrender.
Since the formation of the Republic, the Tenth Guards have been moved to
Pollux to help garrison the world from attack by the Free Worlds League.
The Tenth makes use of the standard Guards paint scheme with crimson
highlights. The units insignia is that of the Guards organization with 10
emblazoned below.
OFFICERS
Colonel Onai Takamoto a native of the Draconis March in the Federated
Sun she joined the Robinson Rangers and served with them for a tour before
going independent and being recruited by General Ryan. She currently enjoys
her new command and the people of the Republic and has asked for and been
granted citizenship.
TACTICS
The Tenth enjoys deceiving its enemy by drawing them into ambushs and
surprise attacks.

11TH ERIDANI GUARDS: GUNG-HO

Unlike the other Guards Clusters, the Eleventh was designed as a recon
unit to be dropped on planet ahead of an invasion force to scout out enemy
positions and secure landing zones. With only two campaigns under their belt,
the Eleventh is considered a regular unit. Do not let this fool you the job they did
against Marik units on Pollux during the Sirian War was a textbook orbital
insertion.
With a reputation of quick insertions and rapid recon the Eleventh is not
used as a garrison force but resides on Epsilon Eridani and is only deployed on
raiding operations or to lead a major invasion force.
The Eleventh tend to paint their equipment in the standard colors, with
tan highlights. The Elevenths insignia is the Guards shield and sword with the
number 11 set below
OFFICERS
Colonel Stacy Duncan was promoted from within the Arousian Militia to
command the Eleventh. Having served the Federated Commonwealth during
the clan war Duncan was one of the few officers on Eridani capable of leading a
unit such as the Eleventh.
TACTICS
The Eleventh specializes in recon and pathfinder missions. Due to this
specialization the Eleventh was assigned a full company of Purifier Adaptive
Battle-Armor.

TRUE DEFENDERS
Probably the truest defense unit in the Eridani Guards Galaxy the Twelfth
has yet to see any action outside of the DSTC Combat Simulation field. With
their Training complete, they were deployed to Small World to provide garrison
until the Small World Grenadiers are rebuilt.
The Twelfth uses the standard Eridani Guards paint scheme and insignia.
OFFICERS
Colonel David Pickering is one of the few graduates of the Dark Storm
Military Academy. Having served in the Ingress Militia, he was resentful at first
for his posting on Small World, though he seems to be warming to the people of
the planet.
TACTICS
Not being on the RAF Roster for long so this unit has not yet been able to
develop its own specialized tactics.

Argosy Special Operations Group
was officially assigned to the Twelfth
as its special operations component.

In reality, High Command has

assigned the unit to watch over its
questionable status and to insure the
unit treats the populace of Small
World respectfully and does not
harm them.

BETA GALAXY: LIBERTY RANGERS

Built around the Liberty
Militia and a Mercenary unit they
had in their employ the Liberty
Rangers are almost entirely a green
unit.
Created with a need to
expand the RAF Commanding
General Ryan decided to order the
creation of three Clusters and to train
them on Liberty because all of the
current training centers were over
flowing with recruits. To solve this
problem General Ryan sent the 2nd
Kearny Highlanders to Liberty along
with a training contingent from
Wolfs Dragoons to train all potential
recruits.
COMMANDING OFFICER
Major General Daniel McCall
once commanded the Liberty Self
Defense Force. An ad hock unit of
Mercenaries and Militia, the LSDF
was key in securing the world from
Liao, Davion, and Steiner interests
during its fight for freedom.

After serving on the Clan

Front during Operation Bulldog,
General McCall canceled his contract
with the Federated Commonwealth
upon being sent to Carver V and
ordered to put down both Davion
and Free Carver rebels. Joining with
the Davion and Rebel factions
McCalls Marauders defeated the
Steiner and Liao forces on planet and
became the planet Libertys first
Mercenary contract.
FORCES
Beta Galaxy is currently
equipped with both new Mechs
acquired through the Quartermaster
corps and captured designs taken
from the surrendered 4th Free Worlds
Legionnaires.
Although
not
equipped with more then three stars
of Standard Battle-Armor the
Rangers currently field a good
proportion of Mechanized Infantry
Stars to complete the Galaxies
expected TO&E.

Each of the three Clusters is

formed around three mixed Trinaries
of two BattleMech stars and one
Mechanized Infantry star, an Armor
supernova Trinary containing three
stars of vehicles, one battle-armor
star, and two Mechanized Infantry
stars. Rounding out each cluster is a
Binary of Aerospace fighters.

COLORS AND INSIGNIA

The insignia of the Liberty
Rangers is an eagle holding an olive
branch in one talon and arrows in
the other.
The Rangers use a standard
Olive drab paint scheme but for
parade and review the Rangers will
paint their Mechs in a light grey with
dark blue highlights.

1ST LIBERTY RANGERS:

LIBERTYS RANGERS
When the first recruits arrived by bus to Camp Winchester in the foothills
of canonberry, they were met by the site of thirty brand new BattleMechs straight
from Ryan Armories. Two stars completely comprised of Clan designed Omni
and Second line BattleMechs the First was to become the showpiece unit for the
Liberty Rangers.
With Colonel Turners Command Star in Alpha Trinary, he made sure that
the best Mechs were in his star. His unit composed of two Timber Wolf OmniMechs, two Lobos, and one Kit Fox Omni-Mech is perhaps the most versatile and
self complementing Star in the entire cluster. The second Star of clan made
designs serves as Major Erika Sims Command Star in Beta Trinary. Composed of
her Arcas, a Rabid Coyote, two Spirits, and one Phoenix Hawk complete the second
most advanced star.
The First uses the Standard Rangers color scheme. The insignia of the
Rangers is the standard Galaxy Insignia with the Roman numeral 1 set below it.
OFFICERS
Colonel Sidney Turner is a fine officer of the former Fletcher Home Guard.
After his world entered into the Republic Turner applied to the RAF and was
accepted to an academy training billet, where he instructed in guerilla warfare
tactics. When the Liberty Rangers were being formed Turner was offered the
assignment and tasked with building a true multipurpose unit, which he feels he
has done.
TACTICS

The First is to be trained in a multitude of tactics and is not expected to

form a specific specialization. In spite of this, the First has shown an affection to
guerilla warfare as instructed by their commander.

2ND LIBERTY RANGERS:

GLORY HOUNDS
The Second is a light recon unit like that of the 11 th Eridani Guards. With
a single star of Light Battle-Armor in the cluster, the Second is the lightest Cluster
in the RAF. Although fully formed the unit is still training with the 2 nd Kearny
on Liberty.
This unit formed entirely of captured equipment from the 4 th Free Worlds
Legionnaires fields many of the signature League designs.
The Second uses the standard paint scheme, and insignia of the Liberty
Rangers with the Roman numeral 2 set below.
OFFICERS
Although this unit is fully formed Colonel Francisco was discovered to be
a Word of Blake agent hoping to infiltrate the RAF. Wolf Net along with trusted
ROM operatives of ComStar discovered the Blakist operative and arrested him.
The agent is currently located in a top-secret RAF facility being pumped for
information on the Word of Blake ROM operation within the Republic.
With the discovery of the Word of Blake agent in their ranks, the moral of
the Second has bottomed out. Without a new commanding officer the Second
turns to Major Nicolas Rubensky
TACTICS
Currently the Second does not have a tactical specialization.

FREEDOMS SLEDGEHAMMER
The Third Rangers are currently on Outreach training along side of Wolfs
Dragoons at the OMTC and University of Outreach. While on Outreach the
Rangers are undergoing a massive training regime to be capable of countering
clan training and doctrine as well as being refitted with Dragoons built clan tech
weaponry. Expected to finish its rotation by March 3073 and return to Liberty,
the Third is to be assigned to the Liao border along with the rest of the Galaxy.
The Third Rangers use the standard paint scheme, and insignia with the
Roman numeral 3 set below it.
OFFICERS
Liberty born Milos Papolav served with the 7 th FedCom RCT for most of
his career in the AFFC. Having seen action during the St. IvesConfederation
war, Milos is itching to give the Confederation a taste of his disgust.
TACTICS

DARK STORM LEGIONS

The Dark Storm Legions were
formed as a mercenary unit by
ComStar and Wolfs Dragoons help.
Although one of the most successful
short run mercenary units ever to
exist, the unit is responsible for
freeing much of the Chaos March
from the fighting that has plagued
the region. In early 3066-67, the
Legions were responsible for the
Assaults on the Terran System as
well as several other Chaos March
worlds.
These legions contain the
RAFs best-equipped and trained
soldiers in the Republic next to the
Elite
Northwind
Highlanders.
Rarely deployed in anything other
then their full size the Legions are
designed for garrisoning important

worlds or to be self-contained
taskforces.
When deployed to a forward
region a Legion is usually escorted
by one of the Republics Warships.
COMMANDING OFFICER
General
James
Corbin
formerly commander of the 1st
Legion was promoted to the rank of
full General and given command of
the Legions. Having served along
side General Ryan in the 1 st FedCom
RCT and a long time friend of the
General.
Corbin
responsible
for
masterminding the assault on Terra,
also lead his 1st Legion against the
Mars Academy and helped in the
complete destruction of the Word of
Blake 7th Division.
Corbin will
follow Ryan anywhere he shall lead

as along as he gets to stop off on

Terra to kill more units of the Word
of Blake before he goes to hell.
FORCES
The Legions are the bestequipped units in the RAF
containing the only Mechanized
Light-Armored Infantry Regiments
as well as entire Battle-Armor
Battalion attached to each Mech
Regiment. Each legion contains two
BattleMech
Regiments,
two
Mechanized Light-Armored Infantry
Regiments, one Armor Regiment,
and two Battle-Armor Battalions.
Also assigned to this unit is a full
Aerospace Regiment.

When in Republic territory

the Light Horse and Dragoon
regiments of the Mercenary Dark
Storm Legions fall under the
command of the RAF.
COLORS AND INSIGNIA
All of the Legions Mechs,
Tanks, Battle-Armor, and Aerospace
fighters paint their vehicles in the
black and dark blue color scheme of
the Republic of the Sphere.
The insignia of the Legions is
the shield, sword, and lighting bolt
symbol of the Republic Armed
Forces.

1ST DARK STORM LEGION:

FIRST TEAM
The First Team earned their name during the assaults on the Free Worlds
League occupied worlds of Pollux and Gram IV. Each Regiment was escorted by
a company of Sirian Lancers at the request of then Leftenant General Corbin to
signify to the planetary populations that they were there as a liberator not
conquers.
When the First Legion was formed in 3065, it spent a year on Tukayyid
training along side the ComGuard 427 TH Division, the Invader Galaxy, and
several SLDF units on planet. After months of classroom training and field
exorcises the First was recalled to Outreach where it then lead the assault on
Mars. After securing the War Academy of Mars computer core and armory, the
First retreated off planet to dock with their transport the Albatross.
After the battles of Terra and Mars were over the First returned to Epsilon
Eridani where it remained until the Sirian War of 3069. When the Sirian
Concordance succeeded from the Free Worlds League and petitioned to join the
Republic, the First Legion was sent to secure the worlds of Pollux and Gram IV.
In the initial landings on Pollux were carried out by the 11 TH Eridani Guards and
provided accurate intelligence on the planetary garrison allowing the First

Legions 3RD Heavy Assault Regiment landed almost right on top of the planetary
garrison.
The First Legion uses the standard paint scheme and insignia of the
Legions with a stylized roman numeral 1 beneath it.
OFFICERS
With the promotion of James Corbin to the rank of General and
commander of all of the Legions, Colonel Michael Allen was promoted to the
Rank of Major General and given command of the First Legion. Formerly
commander of the 3RD Heavy Assault Regiment Allen was Corbins first choice to
take command of his old unit.
FORCES
Until the end of 3067, the First Legion consisted of two BattleMech
Regiments, one Mechanized Infantry Regiment, and an Aerospace Regiment.
With the formation of the Republic of the Sphere, the First Legion received a
second Infantry regiment as well as an Armor regiment bringing the total
number of regiments to six.
The Fifth regiment is one of
the most cohesive units in the
Legions. With the loss of General
Corbin to the Legion command, the

2ND DARK STORM LEGION:

THE CUTTHROATS
With the discovery of the BattleMech Division on Eureka General Ryan
ordered the formation of two Legions the First and the Second Dark Storm
Legions. Since that day, the Second has excelled at defensive and offensive
operations as with the First Legion.
When First Legion assaulted Mars, the Second assaulted the worlds of
Caph and Epsilon Eridani securing the worlds from Word of Blake forces.
After the assault, the Legion consolidated on Epsilon Eridani along with
the rest of the Legions. When the Legions were cleared by the MRBC to
commence mercenary contracts with their approval, the Second was sent to Blair
Atholl to act as a grinding stone against Jade Falcon units. Having defeated two
clusters in their tour the Second was heading home when Wolf Net contacted
them about a new BattleMech production plant on Gaurs. Securing permission
from command, the Second set out to seize the plant and bring it back to Epsilon
Eridani piecemeal.
Since the operation on Gaurs, the Second remained on Epsilon Eridani
until the Republic offered the unit as its first SLDF contribution. The Second has

since been station on the world of Ueda in the Free Rasalhague Republic to help
protect the world from Clan Wolf.
The Second uses the standard paint scheme and insignia of the Legions. A
stylized roman numeral 2 is set below the insignia.
OFFICERS
Major General Austin has been in command of the Legion since it was
created in 3065 and has served with distinction causing many in his unit to say
they would even follow him into hell. With Austin in command, all of the
regiments in the Legion have a Fanatical loyalty level.
FORCES
The Second Legion is not as well equipped as the First but currently has
two Battalions of Battle-Armor. The First is heavily equipped with Star Leagueera and redesigned BattleMechs, Vehicles, and Aerospace fighter. Current plans
call for the rotation of one Mechanized Infantry Regiment at a time back to
Epsilon Eridani to be refitted as a Mechanized Light Armored Infantry Regiment.
These Plans are to be start by the end of 3072.

REPUBLIC LEGIONNAIRES
The Third Legion is counter productive. In its only combat deployment,
the unit never fired a shot but accepted the surrender of the Devils Rock Militia.
After garrisoning the planet for a month, the unit was relived by a Regiment of
Highlanders and was ordered back to Epsilon Eridani.
Under the command of General Edwards, the unit has been training
extensively in rapid assault tactics.
The Third Legion uses the standard paint scheme and insignia of the
Legions with the roman numeral 3 set below.
OFFICERS
Although she has been in command of the Legion for several years, Major
General Mary Edwards has not seen action outside of war games with the
Highlanders or the Dragoons. Some say this lack of experience is what has
caused High Command to leave the Third out of many of the engagements over
the past few years.

FORCES
The Third has been refitted with one Mechanized Light Armored Infantry
Regiment. Although the lightest of the Three Legions with a Striker regiment
replacing the normal Heavy Assault unit. The Legion is equipped for a more
mobile engagement then that of its sister units.

1ST DARK STORM LIGHT HORSE:

THUNDER STALLIONS
Ordered to assault Caph during the short Legion war against the Word of
Blake, the Light Horse managed to destroy the garrison and capture much of the
Blakist equipment and data files from their base. Once the Epsilon Eridani
facility was built, the Stallions departed Caph and headed for Epsilon E.
When the Light Horse was cleared by the MRBC and Wolfs Dragoons to
begin accepting contracts. The Stallions immediately signed on with House
Davion and the Federated Suns and took up station along the Capellan Border.
As the Regiment hopped back and forth along the Confederations border living
on their JumpShips, the regiment began to train in invasion recon. Becoming the
eyes and ears for an invasion force by landing first and scouting enemy positions.
The Stallions use a white base with black and grey tiger stripes. The
insignia of the regiment is a black knights shield with a white horses head and
two lighting bolts on it.

OFFICERS
Colonel Nancy Wilder is a former Major in the 3 RD Crucis Lancers RCT,
having fought in the FedCom civil war she joined the Legions at the request of
General Ryan and with the consent of Prince Victor to avenge her brothers death
at the hands of the Word of Blake.
When Wilder arrived on Outreach, she was met with a regimental
command and tasked with the assault on the Caph. Since her arrival in the
Legions Wilder does not show any sign of leaving the Legions or the Republic
any time soon.

2ND DARK STORM DRAGOONS:

BLAKES BANE
With the formation of the Dragoons, the Legions had their own independent heavy unit.
Originally planed as a heavy cavalry unit General Ryan had to rethink that approach and decided
to model this regiment after the Wolfs Dragoons.
With the assault on Terra, the regiment earned the acclamation of the ComGuard and
many of the military units in the Inner Sphere. Suffering more then forty-percent losses in
equipment and personal. After rebuilding on Epsilon Eridani with redesigned Mech designs
stolen in the same assault on the Word of Blake stronghold, the unit waited for its next
assignment.
The next assignment came with the regiment moving to Liberty to shore up its defenses.
On Liberty, the regiment again fought a climactic battle causing twenty-percent losses to personal
and another forty-percent in equipment. With these losses, the Second was ordered back to
Epsilon Eridani for refit. With the arrival of the 2 ND Legion back on Eridani with captured clan
designs, General Ryan ordered the Regiment refit with the best equipment available.
OFFICERS
Colonel Bianca Mathews has commanded the regiment since General Ryan ordered its
creation and has proven a most capable commander in the field.

SIRIAN LANCERS: THE FURY

The History of the Sirian
Lancers is perhaps the longest of all
current RAF formations. Having
once been part of the Free Worlds
League Military, they along with
their homeworlds of the Sirian
Concordance succeeded from the
league and joined the Republic.
The history and politics of the
Sirian Lancers are inextricably
entwined with the history and
politics of the League itself. During
the height of the Star League, the
Terran province of Sirius (Sirius,

Procyon, Pollux and Graham IV)

fielded
ten
SLDF
BattleMech
Regiments.
Approximately onethird of these troops fell during the
war to reclaim Terra, and another
third left with the Kerensky Exodus.
The remaining unitsthe Sirian
Lancersreturned
to
their
homeworlds, which formed the
Sirian Concordance in 2793 and
joined the Free Worlds League.
Though the governments of
the Sirian Concordance worlds
proved to be valuable political allies

of the Mariks, they refused to allow

their armies to become involved in
domestic
or
foreign
military
adventures claiming neutrality or
invoking the Home Defense Act
when necessary.
This refusal to
militarily support the League
angered
Captain-General
Janos
Marik, who became further alienated
when a newly elected Concordance
primus, Louis Grise, dissolved the
Concordances democratic council
and reorganized the Lancers
concentrating the best warriors in the
units
Procyonbased
Second
Regiment and making only the Third
Regiment available to the CaptainGeneral.
In Response to this insult,
Marik refused to act when the
Capellan Confederation attacked
Sirius and Procyon in late 3024.
Sirius quickly fell to the invaders,
while the Second Lancers fought the
Capellans to a standstill on Procyon.
Desperate to recover his lost
territory, Grise made a personal
appeal to the Captain-General, who
relented and sent the Ninth Marik
Militia regiment to support the
forces on Procyon.
Sirius itself
remained in Capellan hands until the
mercenary Gray Death Legion
recaptured it for the League in 3028.
Later that year, the Lancers
suffered
another
cruel
blow.
Following the start of the Fourth
Succession War, forces of the newly
independent Tikonov Free Republic

captured Graham IV and Procyon

and the League abandoned Sirius
and Pollux in the face of an
overwhelming Lyran invasion force.
As a result, the Lancers were without
a home.
For the next twenty-five years
the Lancers served as a mobile
reaction force for the League, while
the former Sirian Concordance
governors pressured the CaptainGeneral to authorize an offensive to
recapture their worlds. Recapturing
the worlds remained a low priority,
however, as the War of Andurien
Secession and then the effort to
contain the threat of the unified
Federated Commonwealth taxed the
resources of the FWLM.
In 3057, the liberation of the
Concordance worlds finally seemed
at hand. The Captain-General had
launched Operation Guerrero, a plan
to recover the worlds lost to the
Federated Commonwealth during
the Fourth Succession War. But wary
of overextending his forces, the
Captain-General called a halt to the
action before the recovery of Sirius
and Procyon. Incensed by what they
saw as a deliberate insult by the
Captain-General,
the
Lancers
vehemently protested the Mariks
decision,
[particularly
when
communications between the two
worlds and the rest of the Inner
Sphere ceased abruptly a few weeks
later.

For the remainder of 3057 and

the first six months of 3058, the
Lancers and the former Concordance
governors stepped up their pressure
on the Captain-General and the
LCCC, demanding an opportunity to
retake Procyon and Sirius. Then
rumors of death camps and killing
fields on the planets began to
circulate among the Concordance
refugees. No one knows exactly
where the stories started, but they
galvanized the Lancers.
Within
weeks, the units commander,
General Helen Thrall, sent a terse
message to the Captain-General and
the LCCC, informing the FWL
leaders that with or without the
LCCCs permission, all three Lancer
regiments would attack the Sirian
Holds as soon as they could secure
transport assets. If the CaptainGeneral saw fit to send additional
units with the Lancers, they would
gladly accept the reinforcements. In
not, they would go it alone.
Therefore, in September of
3058,
the
Sirian
Lancers,
accompanied by the Fourth Free
Worlds Legionnaires, jumped into
the Sirian Holds. The First Lancers
and the Legionnaires landed on
Procyon, while the Second and Third
Lancers made for Sirius. After a
brief battle, the invasion force soon
took control of Procyon, but fighting
on Sirius lasted almost three weeks.
After the fighting had ended, the
horrifying truth behind the rumors

began to emerge. A mad former

ComStar adeptlater discovered to
be a Word of Blake agent and thus
led to the Concordances withdrawal
from the League and joining of the
Republicby the name of Alisendar
Gyrn, had seized control of the
worlds and executed all who might
oppose him. Tens of thousands had
died. Gyrn was later captured and is
currently has been tried on charges
of mass murder.
Recriminations
began almost immediately, with
many Concordance citizens blaming
the League and the Captain-General
for the delay in retaking the worlds
and thus providing Gyrn time to
carry out his executions.
At this time, it is readily
apparent the reasons why the
Concordance joined the Republic.
COMMANDING OFFICER
Lieutenant General Helen
Thrall, formerly commander of the
Third Lancers, replaced Jefferson
Konopka when Konopka retired
from active duty in 3053. As senior
officer in the military junta now
ruling the Sirian Concordance
worlds of Sirus, Procyon, Graham IV
and Pollux, Thrall is a vocal
supporter of President Shu and
Commanding General Ryan for all
the help and support they have given
to the Concordance and the Lancers.
FORCES

For the past few decades, the

LCCC has regarded the loyalty of the
Sirian Lancers as dubious at best, as
a result severally restricting the
units access to supplies and
technology.
As
the
units
performance in the recent campaign
illustrates, however, this lack of

support does not seem to have

noticeably hindered the Lancers
ability to fight.
In recent months the Lancer
regiments have begun to receive new
equipment and personal from the
Republic High Command.

1ST LANCERS: SCOURGE OF JINAN

In 3022, the fate of the First Sirian Lancers suffered a cruel twist when Primus Louis Grise
took control of the Sirian Concordance. To strengthen his own position, he ordered the transfer of
many of the units best warriors and Mechs to the Second regiment, an action that seriously
weakened both the First and Third Lancers.
After many years of problems between the FWLM and the Lancers, the lancers chose to
join the Republic and brought with them the four worlds of the Concordance. With this new
rebirth, the Lancers have seen an influx of recruits and equipment from the RAF High Command
have brought the First Lancers up to a readiness level they have not seen in decades.
OFFICERS
On Procyon, Colonel Ginny Ebaugh witnessed atrocities that wrought a measurable
change in the once enthusiastic and spirited commander. Her initial fury prompted her order to
raze Jinan, which resulted in the annihilation of the planets mercenary defenders. Ever since the
true horrors of the occupation came to light, Ebaugh had been attempting to persuade the
Concordance worlds to severe their ties to the Free Worlds League and with the joining of the

Republic. She still has her doubts about joining the Republic of the Sphere but is willing to give it
a chance.
TACTICS
The First Lancers rely heavily on their aerospace wing, which uses agile fighters to harass
enemy Mech formations.

The Flame of Sirius

Wing/Regular/Questionable
Wing Cmdr: Commodore Esther Sirof
The light fighters of the Flame of
Sirius excel at ground support missions and
favor precision bombing against fixed
targets. The unit is keen to acquire standoff

weapons, such as the air-launched variant of

the Arrow IV missile. To date, however, the
LCCC has supplied the unit with only five
of the weapons, which the wing used during
the campaign to liberate the Sirian
homeworlds.
The RAF is currently
attempting to remedy this situation.

4TH Republic Infantry Division

Division/Regular/Reliable
CO: Major General Sandy Thurman
The Fourth was assigned to support
the Lancers in garrison duties. Assigned to
replace the 192ND Marik Regulars, which the
Fourth along with the First Legion
destroyed.

2ND LANCERS:
THE DOG STAR CORSAIRS
As a result of Primus Louis Grises plan to strengthen the Second Lancers,
the unit was the most proficient of the Sirian regiments immediately prior to the
Fourth Succession War. Veteran MechWarriors constituted nearly one-third of
the units troops.
However, even that proficiency could not prevent the Second Lancers
defeat on Procyon in April 3029 at the hands of a Tikonov invasion force. The
Second Lancers fought with skill and determination, but the invaders grossly
superior numbers and near-constant aerospace attacks simply overwhelmed the
Lancers. In the end, Colonel Jenny Twofeathers engaged Lord Ridzik in personal
combat, sacrificing her own life to give her troops an opportunity to withdraw.
With the joining of the Republic of the Sphere and the RAF deployment of
several crack units to save the Lancer regiments in the Concordance, the Second

has become fanatically loyal to the Republic and is currently deployed on the
world of Elgin. Stationed there until the Republic can rebuild the planets militia
unit. The Lancers have become active in the community calling it a sister world
to the Concordance and offering to train the new Republic force that is to
garrison the world.
OFFICERS
After graduating from the Allison MechWarrior academy in 3038, Colonel
Davis Csencsics embarked on a spectacularly successful career. A strong
supporter of military reform, Csencsics enthusiastically support the CaptainGenerals reform effortin fact, Csencsics often advocated even more rapid and
far-reaching reforms. However, the Sirian officers loyalty to House Marik began
to crumble when the League alliance with House Liao was announced in mid3052. Like most Sirians, Csencsics is enthusiastic with the Republic and all that it
could do for the Concordance.
TACTICS
The Second Lancers train extensively for night operations and are expert
at using stealth and surprise tactics to gain advantage over their opponents. The
units lack of advanced technology is currently being handled by the RAF
Quartermaster as its older machines are transferred to Reserve units.

incorporate advanced technology.
This problem is being fixed although
slowly. The regiment has already

received a mixed company with two

Timber WolfLobo lances (two Timber
Wolfs and two Lobos in each) and
one lance of PHX-4L Phoenix Hawks
to begin with.

Intelligence suggest this unit
is loyal but reports from Colonel

Csencsics says to keep an eye on the

unit.

1ST Sirius Volunteers

Battalion/Regular/Reliable
Armor
Cmdr:
Major
Claudia
Rainbak
This militia unit was formed
at the end of 3058 and was assigned
to the Second Lancers indefinitely.
Before joining the Republic Colonel
Csencsics thought of the Battalion as
an liability in combat then any real
help. This was proven wrong when
the Volunteers through themselves at

the approaching League Regiment in

order to by the 1ST Legion time to
ground and deploy from their
DropShips. This unit was praised by
General Corbin and given first
priority at refitting.

1ST Sirian Irregulars

Battalion/Regular/Reliable
Troop
Cmdr:
Major
Norman
Sussman
A short battalion of foot
infantry, the irregulars were formed
from the remnants of a guerrilla unit
created during the occupation of the
Sirian worlds.

3RD LANCERS:
THE SOTHIC AVENGERS
The Third Lancers are the least proficient regiment in the Sirian forces.
Stripped of their best pilots and officers during the reign of Primus Grise, the
Third Lancers were driven off Megrez by Lyran forces in 3027. With the aid of
mercenary forces, the Lancers recaptured the world three months later, but the
stigma of defeat remained.
The Third Lancers rebuilt with veterans from disbanded Andurien
regiments and brought themselves back up to full strength. With this, the Third
was rebuffed repeatedly by the LCCC when asked for permission for a
blooding mission. With their joining the Republic, the Third Lancers have
been increasingly active in training with the crack Fifth Battle Regiment of the
First Dark Storm Legion.

Currently the Third is deployed to Sirius along with several regular

Republic formations.
OFFICERS
A moderate in the dispute between the Lancers and the League, Colonel
Sally Hoffman was also the most senior ranking Andurien officer in the FWLM
(Hoffman formerly served as a lance commander in the Fifth Defenders of
Andurien). Consequently, the LCCC touted her as a model of the cooperation
possible between former Defender personnel and the FWLM command. This is
why it became such a shock that she chose to join with the other two Lancer
Regiments in supporting the succession.
The medium fighters of the Third
Sirian aerospace wing provide the Lancers
main offensive punch.
3RD Sirian Lancers
Regiment/Green/Reliable
CO/1st Batt: Colonel Sally Hoffman
XO: Major Inga Sukhabahi
2nd Batt: Major Frances Ormonde
3rd Batt: Major Allesandro Amemocci
The Third Lancers use a large
number of light BattleMechs and favor quick
strikes and raids

This engineering battalion is
attached to the Third Lancers to help the
unit repair several Sirian sites badly
damaged in the recent fighting.

REPUBLIC OF THE SPHERE:

ARMY RESERVE
The Republic of the Sphere
Armed Forces field several reserve
formations. In some militaries these
units would be consider to be
nothing more then Militia. They
would be mistaken. These units are
regular army in everything from the
level of equipment they receive from
the Quartermaster corps, to the level

of training all reservist get.

Reservists are required to enlist and
serve an active duty unit for a period
of one year prior to joining their
reserve unit.
Unlike the regional militias of
the Republics larger neighbors, the
Reserve Brigades are units designed
to bolster an offensive force. As of

3070, no major offensive is to be

carried out without the support of at
least one reserve Brigade.
COMMANDING OFFICER
General Cynthia Hastings is
currently the over all commander of
the Reserve Corps. Aided by Major
General Dagg Reinheart she has
gone a long way to seeing her dream
realized.
Born on Acamar and raised in
the
Federated
Suns
military,
Hastings has served with distinction
in the clan wars fighting in the
Davion Heavy Guards RCT. As her
training dictates, she is a staunch
supporter of combined arms warfare
that prompted her to push for the
creation of the reserve brigades.
FORCES
Each Reserve Brigade is
designed as a multipurpose defenseoffense unit.
Mostly built from
medium and heavy BattleMechs and
vehicles. Combining three to four

combined arms battalions the

reserve brigades have taken on the
term of being called Armored
Cavalry Regiments. Currently only
three such units exist, a second
Division is planed to be created
around this core of units.
Each of the Brigades ground
squadrons consist of three Cavalry
Troops one Tank Company and one
Artillery Battery.
Each Cavalry
Troop is then broken down into two
scout platoons, one BattleMech
lance, one Tank platoon, and one
Mortar Section. Each Brigade then
has an Air Cavalry Squadron
attached to the Brigade containing
VTOL Transports, Attack helicopters
and Aerospace fighters. Rounding
out the entire brigade is a company
of BattleMechs to act as the main fist
in any engagement needed.
Each of the Reserve brigades
is in and of itself a potent force not to
be taken lightly.

COLORS AND INSIGNIA

The units of the Reserve force paint their vehicles in a black and gold paint
scheme and have adopted an old Terran military insignia that each Brigade adds
its unit number to.

1ST Armored Cavalry

Brigade/Green/Reliable
CO: Colonel Janice Hollingsworth

The First Cav is currently

training on Northwind as part of the
regions defense force.
Although
having a much smaller Mech force
the First Cav managed to defeat
MacLeods Regiment in a mock

battle on the southern continent of

Kearny.

2ND Armored Cavalry

Brigade/Green/Fanatical
CO: Colonel Ho-Li Phuong
The Second is currently
providing garrison on Hsien near the
Capellan border along with two
Republic Infantry Divisions. When
not activated and deployed the
Second resides on Epsilon Eridani
and acts as one of the Republics
strategic reserve units.

3RD Armored Cavalry

Brigade/Regular/Reliable
CO: Colonel David Scott
The Third is the only reserve
brigade to see action in the form of
an assault on the planet Tall Trees to
help remove a Capellan unit that had
seized the planet.
The Saiph
Triumvirate requested the help from

the Republic, as it had no units to

spare and was currently in the
middle of building its first of three
Mech Regiments.
When the Third arrived, it
found the 5TH Confederation Reserve
Cavalry on planet and engaged in a
battle
that
will
forever
be
remembered as the Battle of the
Cavalry. Two reserve units both
styling themselves as Cavalry units
faced off in a three-day long battle
that saw the Confederation unit
battered and bloodied.
When not protecting Tall Tress
the Third is stationed on Hall.

4TH Armored Cavalry

Brigade/Green/Questionable
CO: Colonel Herman Donor
The Fourth has yet to see
action and is still in training on the
world of Sirius and plans to be the
regions reserve formation.
