Prompt

Copyright 2014, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.

User POV is best practice vs. Prompts

User POV is best practice over Prompt
User POV works with functions (for member selector)
Individual users pick/update there own values at run time, it is interactive for that user and it

persists for that user (in the next session, etc)

Works best with parent members in hierarchy
User POV can be used for a dimension on Page, Row and Column
Each users preference to show Preview User Point of View pop-up before running report

(Workspace->File->Preferences->Financial Reporting)
Prompts:
Can have default values, but same for each user. Defaults can be changed, but have to

manually change them each time by each user

Cant be used with functions (you cant do Children of Prompt value)
Prompts can be used for dimensions not just on Page, but also row and columns

Functions on Member Selection

FR has many different functions
Children of See previous slides
Others: Descendants of, Sibling of, Relative Member, Range from Relative

Member, etc
Can be used on row, column, page
A function can be used to reference Current User POV
Children of Current POV (see the previous slides)

Actual vs. Budget

Might also have to put Accounting Period, Amount Type and

Balance Amount dimension in column depending on report

requirements
Pre-requisite: Must define Scenario members first in value set called

Accounting Scenario. Then run Create Scenario Dimension

Members program from ESS.

Formatting
Demo. Includes:
(shown in Session 1) Natural credits as negatives

(Revenues/Liability/Equity) vs. natural debits as positive

(Expenses/Assets)
Variance columns are different than regular datacell columns.
Example: Formatting an expense row/column/cell can be different than formatting

variance column of CY expenses minus PY expenses

Charts and Graphs Recap and Helpful Hints

Formatting
For bar graphs, change default Bar width to 40 as a good place to start

with further sizing since default is normally too wide.

Datasets change colors if desired

If want Revenues (Liabilities/Equity) and Expenses (Assets) in same

graph, must have hidden row/column to multiple Revenues

(Liability/Equity) * -1. Use that hidden row/column in the graph

Drillthrough to GL - Recap
From FR: Drillthrough to General Ledger
Option 1 (as shown in print screens in previous slide): Drillthrough to Inquire on

Detail Balances user interface -> Journal Lines - >Journals and Subledger
Transactions.
If results do not return, check that the Data Access Set is correct, change if

necessary and drillthrough again from FR report.

Option 2 (not shown): From FR, Drill to Account Inspector user interface (pivot) - >

Inquire on Detail Balances -> same path

Tip: Once FR report has run, if desiring to drillthrough to Inquire on Detail Balances, you may need to specify lower

parent levels in FRC/Workspace for query to return.

In FR report, try to expand on row/column or change User pov and Grid POV to lower levels
Alternative 1: From FR->Drill to Account Inspector, then pivot, expand, then to Detail Balances
Alternative 2: From FR->Export to Query Ready in Smart View->pivot, expand, change page dimensions-

>then drill to Inquire on Detail Balances

Related Content
Drill from FR Report to FR Report with Related Content links.
NOTE: This is different than Drillthrough to General Ledger Inquire on Detail

Balances user interface then to Journal line then to Subledger

First FR report passes dimension settings to second FR report (as long as the

dimension is in User POV on the second report).

Same for second report to third report, to as many as you want

Or Drill to any website (internet or intranet).

Related Content (continued)

If there are Related Content links, be careful to have the folder

structure determined upfront because related content link is based on

full url path (which includes folder structure).
Otherwise, you have to manually re-do all links.
All environments should be consistent.

Also, there is a Related Content Utility (1 report at a time) to update the

from 1 env to another the server name portion of the url path (but not
the folder path that follows in the url link).

Referencing other Grids or DB Connections

Option 1: Reference another grid with Formula:
Option 1 is best practice over Option 2.
Use a formula in row/column or cell on Grid1 to pull in row/column or cell from Grid 2 (grid 2 can

be hidden).
Grid 2 can be same or different cube with completely different dimensionality (chart of accounts,

accounting calendar, ADB, etc)

Using this approach, there are no considerations of mapping dimension to dimension, and other.

Option 2: Reference another DB connection within same Grid

Highlight a row/column or cell in Grid 1, and select to map to different database connection (with

same or different chart of accounts and other dimensionality)

However, there are mappings that will have to be considered throughout this, and can become

more work than Option 1, and more to maintain.

Saving FR Objects to Repository and Insert

Save FR Objects on Repository (Shared Folders) to be used for other

reports
Select Object (Grid, Text, Image, Chart) ->File->Save Object
Can link to Source Object.
Make 1 report the Source. Update only that 1 object.

General Other Helpful Hints

Studio->Open Report->File->Page Setup->
Select Custom Workspace Size - when the Report pallet in Studio does

not have enough length or width

Select Fit to Page Options - for printing in pdf on a page.

Folder Structure Best Practices

Decide folder structure early and keep consistent across all

environments.
Some functionalities (Related Contents) rely on a full url path (which
includes folder path)

Changing Database Connection

From Workspace, this utility changes database connection 1 report at a time.
Try to ensure that database connection names folder structures are consistent across

environments so that when they are imported to target environment, you dont have to
manually change the db connection with this utility in Workspace

Migrating and Backing Up Reports

Migrating Reports between environments (Test to Production, CRP1 to

CRP2, etc.)
For different environment you must use: Setup Manager Utility

(Configuration Package).
For different environment, do not use Workspace->File->Export/Import
Reason: Only the Setup Manager Utility ensures that FR member ids are

derived correctly across different environments

Migrating reports within same environment
Backup reports frequently (if same environment: From Workspace->File-

>Export/Import)

Tip: When FR Studio is Not Responding

FR Studio looks like it is not responding
You think you have to Control + Alt + Delete to shut it down
Wait

The member selector window is open in the background

This happens when working in Studio, open member selector, and then

go check email (or any other application). Alt tab back to Studio and it
looks like it is not responding
Only way around this is to Alt Tab back to the Null window
FR Studio will start responding again and show the Member Selector
Window
