Research Topic: Tutoring program for a lower income school

to positively impact the problem by) List all steps you are pondering.:
How can I help lower income students improve in their weakest subjects? I plan to find out what the
main subject most of the students struggle in and focus on that. Reading is usually the main one kids
struggle with so I have many strategies ready to help them grow in that area.
What do you hope your outcome for this Practicum will be?
I hope that all the students I help will have better test scores and grades. Also that the improved in the
subject that they struggled with the most.

Victoria Elementary School
What agencies or outside sources will you be using?
I will be having teachers, Brandi bauder and Cathy Matthews, and the principal of this school help me
by giving me their students and a space for me to tutor. Also I will have teachers or fellow friends help
me with the actual tutoring so it is more successful.
What steps will you take to begin your practicum and how will you document each and every step for
completing your product (journal, blog, video blog, etc.).
In order to begin my practicum I will need to get in contact with the principle of Victoria Elementary
asking how and where I can setup my tutoring center. My mom is a teacher there so I will most likely
use her classroom and use a lot of her help through this process. I will document my practicum by
using a journal writing everything down. Also by taking many video clips of the students learning and
growing, so people can have a visual of my journey: making it into a documentary. It will show
everything I do as well as the struggles I will face.
How will your research be evident in your final practicum?
It will show me what low income students go through and their struggles. How everything isnt just
handed to them. They live a harder life so sometimes when they are learning they are distracted. I will
learn their struggles and what it is like to be in their shoes.
How will you portray your final practicum in your digital portfolio? (TED talk, documentary, videos,
screencasts, etc) Remember no poster boards or powerpoint presentations. Your final product
must be able to stand alone that means anyone could go to the page and view your presentation
without you being there to show it.
I am planning on portraying my final practicum in my digital portfolio as a documentary or a bunch of
video clips. I will be taking videos throughout this process showing the students growing and learning
not only in school but as people,
