Scenario
Youre an obstetrician gynecologist and
a pro-choice O&G. Your pa>ent is a 17
years old high school student. She is 24
weeks pregnant from her last period.
Her uterus is 2 ngers breadth above
the umbilicus. Shes been feeling her
baby kick for over a month.[1]

Shes asleep in an opera>ng room table and

youre there to help her problem.
First, you withdraw the laminaria you placed on
the cervix. [1]
The next procedure is to reach for a suc>on
catheter (a 14 French Foley Catheter). Now
Imagine pu_ng it into the cervix and instruc>ng
your nurse to turn on the suc>on machine. [1]
The rst thing you see is a pale yellow uid
running through the suc>on boale of the
suc>on machine [1]
-it is the amnio>c uid.

Next is what we call the blind procedure. Since you cant really
see whats going on in the uterus. [1]
So you condently grab your Sopher clamp and start cu_ng the
fetus into bits and withdrawing it. As it cannot t into the
catheter. [1]
The piece extracted is then assembled back to ensure every part
is extracted out. [1]

So the ques>on is-

Will you do it for her?
Shes 17 and soon will be entering college.
Her College/University have strict rule on
pregnancy while on course
Shes from a religious family . Her family is
against premarital sex . (that will cause pressure
to her and abomina>on from the community)
Shes 17 and are not ready to bear a child.
She was a vic>m of rape.

Abor>on is not illegal in Malaysia. Sec>on 312 of the Penal Code states that a
termina>on of pregnancy is permiaed in circumstances where there is risk to the life
of the pregnant woman or threat of injury to her physical or mental health [2]

i. The Law,
Some socie>es ban abor>on almost completely while others permit it in certain cases.
ii. Ethical ,

Considered abusing the prac>ce code of a physician that have taken the oaths
(Geneva/Hippocrates) . Considered as a criminal oence of a highly serious nature
iii. Prac>ce Code and

iv. Personal Values/ Morals
