Re: Spencer Caceda
Dear Admissions Officer:
I serve as Marlboro Townships Deputy Mayor and also as its Director of Economic
Development, however I am writing to you now in my capacity as co-founder and
adult facilitator of the Marlboro Township Teen Advisory Committee (TAC).
Specifically, I write in support of the candidacy of Spencer Caceda for college
admission.
Having had the opportunity to personally observe Spencers approach, diligence,
and hard work as a committee member of our local government in Marlboro, as
well as his efforts on behalf of the teens and residents of our Town, I wholeheartedly recommend him for admission to your exceptional academic institution.
Spencer is a natural leader who will thrive in a college that is committed to
developing community, government, and business leaders.
I had the privilege of first meeting Spencer during the fall of 2011, shortly after
the idea for a teen leadership committee was conceived. From the inception of
TAC, which by Marlboro Township Council resolution in 2008 became a municipal
government committee, Spencer has without a doubt been one of its strongest
leaders, offering intelligent and insightful ideas as to how the teen population in
Marlboro could work to improve our Town. Spencer possesses outstanding
leadership and public speaking skills, and TACs adult facilitators routinely ask
Spencer to take the microphone and address not just TACs constituency during
TAC meetings, but also our Mayor, Township Council and Administration. He is atease in a packed room, confident, witty, personable, intelligent, thoughtful, and
quite effective as a public speaker.
Spencers dedication to community service and to the Town of Marlboro is also
evident from his volunteering and full participation in TACs many Do Good!
initiatives, including his leadership role with the Marlboro Alliances annual blood
drive and anti-drug/alcohol campaigns; in working with the senior citizens of our
town in teaching them the basics and nuances of computer and mobile phone
usage; in working with our Towns Economic Development Committee on its major
business initiatives and with its Multicultural Committee in facilitating programs
that encourage diversity and respect. Indeed, Spencer is often the first to accept
each community service opportunity that is presented to him, and he wholeheartedly endorses TACs credo that community service is a necessary component
of becoming and remaining a leader. Leading by example, and very popular
amongst his peers, Spencer motivates others to participate in TAC and perform

community service as well. Spencer was initially elected (and then re-elected) by
his peers to serve as one of just ten members of TACs Executive Board, which is
TACs governing body. These competitive election victories were well earned and
well deserved. Spencers responsibilities include preparing the agenda and
chairing TACs bi-monthly meetings, helping to organize service initiatives, and
most importantly teaching a leadership principle to the committee. Spencer also
serves as one of TACs lead ambassadors at Marlboro Day, which each year draws
almost 20,000 residents and serves as the single best recruiting day for enlisting
new Marlboro teens to join the TAC program.
Through his commitment to public service, his exemplary character, and his
leadership skills, he has earned the respect of his peers, the current administration
and the adults who facilitate the TAC group, which currently has in excess of 1800
registered members. I have spoken often with Spencer about his interest in local
government and his desire to be proactive in helping his community. As an
attorney, I am impressed with his oral advocacy and critical reasoning skills, his
persuasiveness, and his ability to take initiative. As Deputy Mayor and TAC
facilitator, I am inspired by his enthusiasm and his maturity, his integrity, sense of
humor, ability to navigate through adversity, and his intelligence. He is a young
man with a desire to learn and improve not only himself, but his community.
Spencer will be an asset to your fine college, without question. Thank you for your
consideration of his candidacy and of this letter of recommendation.
