About the program:
Indias economy is expanding rapidly and by 2030 it is expected to hav e grown by f iv e times, strengthened largely by the coun try s urban centers. In India, around 350 million
people are liv ing in urban areas and it is expected to grow up to 590 million by 2030. This accounts to nearly 40% of Indias population as compared to the present 31%. India is on
the v erge of the second greatest urban migration in worlds history with migration of about 25-30 people ev ery minute to major Indian cities f rom rural areas, in search of better
liv elihood, opportunities and lif esty les. Surging growth and employ ment opportunities in urban cities will act as a cataly st for economic growth by creating 70% of the new jobs, while
contributing in excess of 70% to Indias GDP by 2030.
The major challenge is to dev elop cities to accommodate its inhabitants and prov ide them quality lif e with the help of techno logy . With the rapid growth of inf ormation and
communication technologies, there is a growing interest in dev eloping smart cities with a f ocus on the knowledge economy , use of sensors, mobile and green technologies, to plan
and manage cities. Emerging technologies hav e potential applications f or ef f iciently managing env ironment, inf rastructure, promoting economic dev elopment and building saf e
healthy sustainable & resilient cities through the activ e engagement of people. With globalization of economy , a number of ci ties are now competing with one another to attract
inv estments and skilled workf orce by promoting themselv es as smart and intelligent cities.
On 25th June 2015, Honorable Prime Minister of India launched three mega urban schemes v iz., Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mi ssion f or Rejuv enation and Urban Transf ormation
(AMRUT) and Housing f or All, setting in motion the process of urban transf ormation to improv e quality of lif e and driv e ec onomic growth. Stressing on the need f or people centric
urban planning and dev elopment, the Prime Minister said that f or the f irst time in the county such an ef f ort has been launched. He said that with clear v is ion and ef f ectiv e planning,
all possible hurdles could be ov ercome and ev en resource mobilization would not be an issue.
With this background, Camellia Institute of Technology is organising SMART INDIA, a conf erence on Smart Solutions f or Smart Cities. This two day conf erence aims to giv e a brief
ov erv iew on opportunities and challenges in Technology , Gov ernance, Energy , Transportation, Smart/Green Buildings, ICT, IOT, etc., in making Indian cities smarter.

OBJECTIVES:
The conf erence will prov ide a platf orm to the participants to gain an insight into the opportunities and challenges in making Smart Cities across India.
The objectiv es of the conf erence will be to:
Create awareness about the need f or smart cities;
Prov ide a platf orm to exchange inf ormation, share knowledge, support technology , innov ation, experience and best practices in the area of Smart Cities;
Discuss the trends around the world and the achiev ements in making saf e, sustainable, smart cities;
Highlight the initiativ es and policies of the Indian Gov ernment & State Gov ernment to accelerate the Smart Cities projects.
