SIPROTEC 7SA6 Distance Protection

protecting, controlling and automating
at all voltage levels between 5 kV and 500 kV

The SIPROTEC 7SA6 distance protection relay is a

universal device for protection, control and automation on the basis of the
SIPROTEC 4 system. Its
high level of flexibility
means it can be implemented at all voltage levels. With
this device, you are ideally
equipped for the future: it
offers security of investment and also saves on operating costs.
This is facilitated by the
following features:
Tested protection modules
assure maximum safety
Uniform operator software
(DIGSI 4) for all SIPROTEC
devices saves on training
costs
Clearly laid out measuredvalue display saves on
external measuring
instruments
DIGSI 4 start-up aids speed

Optimum protection at
all voltage levels between
5 kV and 500 kV

Automating a substation simple, like in

industry

As a universal protection device, the SIPROTEC 7SA6 distance protection relay can be
implemented at all voltage
levels. Proven and 100% typetested function packages are
available for various application areas in resonantearthed, isolated-neutral or
earthed-neutral systems.

Even the basic variant of the

SIPROTEC 7SA6 distance protection relay includes extremely flexible programmable
logics. This permits:
Interlocking check for the
control unit / breaker
Additional protective circuits
to protection functions
Processing of measured
values with defined limiting
values

The distance protection function can be implemented with

different pickup methods that
are specifically tailored to the
various operating conditions.
You can choose between:
Overcurrent pickup
Voltage and currentdependent pickup
Voltage, current and phaseangle-dependent pickup
Impedance pickup
Each pickup method assures
a particularly high degree of
protection selectivity, since
impedance measurement is
possible in up to 6 measuring
loops simultaneously. Furthermore, SIPROTEC 7SA6 offers
many more functions for comprehensive feeder protection
and uncomplicated operation.

With the aid of the CFC editor,

familiar from the world of
SIMATIC industrial automation, the flexible opportunities
offered by the logic can be
exploited to the full. With fullgraphics interface support and
without any programming
knowledge, the logic switching elements can be selected from a program library and
connected up on the PC. An
ingenious consistency check
assures an error-free configuration result and reliable operation.

SIPROTEC 7SA6, the digital
distance protection family with control unit, is the logical
enhancement of the 7SA5 distance protection devices,
thousands of which are in use.

More than 20 years of experience in the development and

production of digital protection
and control equipment have
been incorporated into the
concept of the new family of
devices. Powerful 32-bit

DIGSI 4
easy to use

Switchgear control from

remote of locally
The SIPROTEC 7SA6 distance
protection relay enables the
breaker in the feeder to be
controlled directly, taking the
respective interlocking conditions into account.
Particularly clear control is
made possible by those devices with a graphic display
for displaying the feeder mimic diagram, colored control
keys and 2 key switches. The
feeder mimic diagram can be
easily designed and specific
to the application with the aid
of the PC program DIGSI 4.
Those devices with a 4-line
display also offer menu-driven
control. All device variants can
be integrated into the remotecontrol concepts of SCADA
and protection systems. With
SIPROTEC 7SA6, control commands are executed reliably
and system faults cleared up
quickly and selectively at all
times.

DIGSI 4 the uniform PC

program for user-friendly
operation of all
SIPROTEC 4 devices
DIGSI stands for convenient
and user-friendly parameterization and operation of digital
protection equipment.
Each window contains the
information that is really
necessary irrespective of
the device you are in the
process of configuring.
Context-sensitive menus
for every situation offer you
tailored functionality
there's no longer any need
for complex searches
through menu hierarchies.
A matrix makes I/O
configuration transparent.
You can set up connections
right through to the control
and protection system with
just a single click of the
mouse.
Easy-to-use start-up aids
offer safety and save
money.

Retrofittable communication
modules are available for all
SIPROTEC 7SA6 distance protection devices. This means
you can and will be able to
satisfy today's and future
requirements of different
communications protocols. At
the same time, absolutely all
SIPROTEC devices can be
operated via modem and/or
star coupler and communicate
with higher-level control and
protection systems such as
SICAM.

functions

Communication by IEC protocol and PROFIBUS: the international, standardized interface defined in IEC 60870-5103 has proven itself as an
open communications standard for connecting protection
equipment from different vendors. Alternatively, other forms
of fieldbus interfacing, via
PROFIBUS or other protocols,
are also available with
SIPROTEC 4 widely implemented standards, particularly
in the fields of control and
protection systems and automation engineering.

Integrated in the SIPROTEC

7SA6 distance protection relay
are a large number of measurement and testing functions
for commissioning and operational measurements.
In addition to the usual measured values taken for operating
currents, voltages and power,
the equipment now also offers
min./max. values, demand values and energy metering.
