The Altoona District Mission Central HUB

REPORT 2016
Praise God! The Altoona District Mission Central HUB as an extension of Mission
Central in Mechanicsburg continues to work locally and around the world through
UMCOR with great success.
As with every other year in our 9+ years there are no shortages of disasters and the
need for support of those less fortunate. Some of our kits that are prepared and
shipped from our HUB go through Mission Central in Mechanicsburg and then onto
UMCOR or distributed directly form Mission Central.
Our kits this year total as follows:
1608 school kits
91 cleaning buckets
245 Layette kits
1700 health kits
20 birthing kits
These kits have a value of $55,188.00.
We have distributed 473 jean quilts. The quilts are valued at $23,650.
In our

9+ years we have distributed through Mission Central:

14,381 School kits
1,677 cleaning buckets
2,578 layette kits
18,299 health kits
734 Birthing kits

These kits are valued at $586,371.

This represents 37,669 individuals and families that have been helped through your
giving. This does not include the number of people receiving the quilts. Another
project that has caught on is the plastic bag mats that are being made for the
homeless.
We also distribute non-standard kits and other miscellaneous items. Through local
areas we have had mission outreach to 78 different entities. This represents giving
out 227 times to these places some on a single basis and some on a regular basis
throughout our 9+ years. Some of the entities that have benefited from these items
include social service agencies, shelters, nursing homes, and local church programs,
etc.
This past year we have hosted youth groups, PSU students, womens groups and
church groups. Purchasing supplies to support these volunteers has increased our
costs. We continue to depend on contributions received through the individual
churches and friends to buy supplies for the kits.

The Altoona District Mission Central HUB

Our special events this year included hosting the Conferences Young peoples
ministry event. We also participated in the HUB Network Event at Mission Central.
Our annual Blueberry sale was a successful fundraiser. It is the only fundraiser we
have and these funds pay for our operating costs. This also allows us to tithe to
Mission Central; this year we sent $3500 to reduce the mortgage. Helping to reduce
the mortgage frees up funds to be used to continue this mission work.
Thankfully, this year we have had 1,013 volunteers; giving 1,731 hours of their
time. Each and every one is devoted to continue this work.
Members of the Volunteers in Mission built some additional new shelving.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 10 years being the Hands and
Feet of Jesus with an open house in May, 2017.
We could not do all these missions without the support of all the individuals, groups
and churches that support the Hub in many different ways; from volunteering to
donation of supplies and the monetary gifts. This is what keeps the HUB able to
move forward toward another successful year.
