Student grades are determined in relationship to the course
objectives stated in the district curriculum guide. Students must
complete the coursework in order to earn credit. (NRS392.122;
CCSD Regulation 5121).

2. For a student to meet the curricular requirements of the course,

he/she must actively participate in the class in various ways,
including but not limited to: listening, recording notes,
responding to and answering questions, participating in large
and small group discussions, and completing in-class work
activities. This daily participation is part of the students grade.
Also contributing to a students grade and their completion of
the coursework are the assessments of student progress and
understanding such as tests, quizzes, labs, papers, journals,
projects, and in-class homework review. (CCSD Standard of
Quality V).
3. Your grade will be based on the following:

60%-Tests/Projects/Presentations
30%-Classwork/Quizzes
10%-Homework

Attendance Policy:

Attendance is an essential part of the educational setting and lack

thereof can seriously affect your grade. Students who exceed (10)
unapproved absences will not earn credit. If a student exhibits a
lack of attendance on a majority of block days, he/she may be
referred to an alternative program and/or receive no credit. This is
due to the excessive loss of instructional time.

Make-Up Work:

Within one day after an absence, the student must contact the
teacher to determine the homework assigned during the absence
and the period of time allowed for turning in the homework. When
a student is absent, the educational experiences lost from class time
are irretrievable and the instruction and interaction cannot be
duplicated through make-up work, (CCSD Regulation 5113).
Make-up work represents only a portion of the daily grade; for
students with approved absences, the substance and grade value of
make-up work is subject to the teachers discretion. Students with
unapproved absences are entitled to make-up work information, but
will not receive any credit for participation work due to their
truancy.
Exception: Major assignments given to students with more
than a week notification of the due date are due on the
students return from an absence. Any major assignment
submitted after a due date may receive reduced credit.
2

Late Work:

Late work will be accepted for a grade for up to one school week
(or 5 school days) after the due date. All late work is marked down
30%. Work that is turned in later than 5 days will be accepted for
feedback only, but not a grade. If the student is marked with an
UNEXCUSED absent on the day of a due date, the assignment
will still be considered late unless it is changed to an EXCUSED
absence.

School-Wide Tardy
Policy:

Tardiness is unacceptable; all students will adhere to the schoolwide tardy policy. (Please refer to specific tardy policy regulations
in your staff handbook to be included in your course expectations).

Plagiarism Policy:

Throughout this year we will write often. Therefore, plagiarism on

any prcis, analysis, project or any other dishonest or unethical
work as determined by Mr. Kijewski will be considered cheating
and will result summarily in an F for the assignment. Also, a
phone call home will be placed by Mr. Kijewski to the students
parents, and a face-to-face meeting may be scheduled. Once a
student has been disciplined for plagiarism or falsifying his or her
work, no extra credit assignment will be permitted the rest of the
school year.

Cell Phone Policy:

There is a NO CELL PHONE policy within Mr. Kijewskis class.

Cell phones may not be seen or heard including the practice of
plugging cell phones in within the classroom for charging
purposes. If cell phones are seen or heard, the discipline policy as
listed in the next box will be followed.

Discipline Policy:

A list of classroom behavioral expectations will be handed out to

you. Violation of classroom rules will result in the following:
1st Violation Warning
2nd Violation Warning/Parent Contact
3rd Violation Teacher Detention/Referral
Possession of weapons, theft, fighting, possession or use of
narcotics, gross insubordination (threatening or cursing the
teacher) will result in immediate referral to the Dean on the 1st
offense and RPC also possible suspension, arrest, and/or
expulsion.
