EPS produces significant and lasting changes to the
maternal vaginal microbiome that are vertically passed
to the neonate gut

Changes in microbiota are associated with altered
plasma and gut nutrient metabolites & brain AA
transport in region-specific and sex-specific manner

C-section and oral inoculation suggest the gut is sexspecifically programmed, in part, prior to birth,
including the infiltration and activation of immune cells
