Infection Control in the Delivery Room

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Purpose:
1. To maintain high sanitation level for the health and safety of the
newborn infants and their mothers, as well as the staff.
2. Tor reduce the risk of Nosocomial Infections.

Procedures:
1. Put on Mask and Gloves
2. Assemble all cleaning equipment and materials.
3. Carefully remove trashcan liner, clean and disinfect the trashcan
and put another trash linens.
4. Tables and cabinets are damped with a clean cloth treated with a
disinfectant.
5. Wet the dust towel with a detergent soap and wipe all the walls,
then rinse it with water, wipe again with a clean cloth treated
with a disinfectant.
6. Floors are swept then mopped with a detergent soap from the
clean area to the dirty area, then rinse with water, mop to
disinfect then dry.
7. Blood spills are wiped carefully with a separate cloth treated with
a disinfectant. These cloths are then discarded afterwards.

*Cleaning and disinfecting the delivery rooms are done regularly after
every case.

Cleaning and Sterilizing Instruments in the Delivery Room


Procedures:
1. Put on Mask and Gloves.
2. Gather all the instruments to be washed.
3. Wash the instruments with a brush and detergent soap in running
water, remove all the visible organic residue.
4. After washing and cleaning, put it in a clean cloth and let it dry.
5. After drying, wrap it in a clean cloth then label it with the date
and name of instrument. After that, put it in steam sterilizer for 1
hour.
6. After 1 hour, let it cool then store it in the cabinet.
7. All unused instruments should be packed and labelled. It should
undergo steam sterilization at least 3x a week and are stored to
the cabinet to keep sterile and ready to be used anytime.
