Corrosion resistance of Festo products

Beside degree of protection (IP/NEMA) and design (Hygienic, Clean, Standard design), the corrosion
resistance of materials/products is one of the key requirements in the Food & Beverage industry.
To give a statement of the product resistance Festo has created 2 standard which are consist of
several international and national standards.
FN940070: Corrosion resistance: CRC class / General Festo standard for all industry segments
All Festo products/materials are tested according FN940070
FN940082: Requirements in F&P industry / Specialiced Festo standard for the F&B industry
Special products which are dedicated for the F&B industry are tested to FN940082

FN 940082 Specialised on cleaning and disinfecting

Background:
Depending on the application, cleaning detergents from ph1 - ph 14 are used
Regular rotation of cleaning detergents is practice
Cleaning is in many cases done by third parties
The complete machine is cleaned

Different tests for the materials are required:

Stainless steel: DIN 11483 Cleaning of installations in the milk industry
Aluminium: FN 940082
Plastics: Information from the manufacturer
+ Festo has a close cooperation with suppliers of cleaning agents (Ecolab, Diversey, Krcher)

FN 940082 Test procedure for aluminium products

Aluminium as well as nickel + chrome plated brass will fail under the conditions of DIN11483
therefore a test procedure which represents the suitability is defined in FN 940082.
There is no international/national standard available.
The Festo standard is developed in close cooperation with several customers and the cleaning
agent manufacturers.
