SECOND CYCLE DEGREE/TWO YEAR MASTER

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND
INTERCULTURAL HERITAGE
(I-CONTACT)

PAGE # 2

OUR
CONCEPT
INTRODUCTION
The programme offers a solid interdisciplinary
and problem-oriented training to graduate
students with diverse backgrounds who plan to
work in the field of international cooperation and
development.
It aims at broadening students conceptual and
analytical abilities, equipping them with both
academic and professional skills. The practical
objective is to enable students to manage global
development projects in complex, multidimensional and intercultural environments.
Close attention is paid to historical and
geopolitical dynamics between European Union
and Central, Eastern European and East Asian
countries, as well as in the Euro-Mediterranean
region.

The course focuses on the evolving economic,

political, social and cultural issues related to
international cooperation and development as
well as on professional skills and methodological
tools that are needed to critically address and
tackle them.

WHY HUMAN RIGHTS AND CULTURAL HERITAGE TOGETHER?

The rationale for the coupling of human rights'

topic with cultural heritage studies comes
directly from two internationally renowned
sources of such concepts. Indeed, the crucial
role played by culture and knowledge as a
common basic ground for human
development, then as a way to freedom both
individually and collectively, is a conceptual
relationship being present in the 1945s
UNESCO Constitution (in the Constitution is
explicitly affirmed the basic relation between
culture, education, and freedom, implicitly
underlining how critical thinking is a
precondition for liberty), as well as in the UN
definition of human development (see diagram
on the left).

no culture is an island

We strongly urge our students to do an

internship some time during the programme.
As you may well understand, internships give
students the opportunity to acquire academic
credits (ECTS-CFU) while gaining valuable work
experience, establishing important contacts in
a field of interest, exploring potential career
paths, and acquiring professional work habits
and skills. This is the reason why the University
of Bologna has been since a long time
agreements on exchanges with universities in
Europe and other countries.
English is the prevalent language of instruction.
At the end of the course, career outlooks are
accessible in national and international
organisations. NGOs, companies working on
development problems or in developing
countries, both in private and public sectors,
local government offices and other institutions.
Employment opportunities are based on the
foregoing background of our students and
include positions such as aid program manager,
development consultant, researcher and
advisor.
