Liquid Nitriding
Process
Inducing nitrogen in metal surface by processing it in Nitrogen-bearing salt. It increases wear
resistance and corrosion resistance of metal
Process Flow
Degreasing

Water Rince

Pre-heating

Liquid Nitriding

Water Quench

Shot Blasting
Degreasing
Dipping in Alkaline based degreaseing agent (5% ~ 10%) to cleaning the oil & foreign
particles present on component
Water Rinse
Dipping in water to remove excess degreasing solution
Pre-heating
Heating the component to 500 ~ 550C in VFAC (Vertical - forced air circulation) furnace to
dry and increase component temperature. It reduces raising time in liquid nitriding process
Liquid Nitriding
Components are soaked for 90 Mins in molten salt bath which is maintained at 5705C
Molten salt bath contains
a) Base salt (Sodium Carbonate and Potassium Carbonate based)
b) Re-generator salt (Ammonia based) to increase the CNO %
c) Pottasium Sulphide, (K2S) to reduce CN %
Presence of Cyanide (CN) will be less than 1.0%. It is maintained in lower level by continuous
air agitation and addition of Pottasium Sulphide
Water Quench
After sufficient soaking time, Components are quenched in water immediately. It removes
residual salt deposited on the components
Shot Blasting
Steel shots are pressurized to impact on component. It creates roughness on surface of the
components which helps in paint adhesion
