About This Chapter

This describes the concept of BSS data adjustment, adjustment mode, and configuration tools.
1.1 Definition of BSS Data Adjustment
BSS data adjustment is the adjustment of BSS configuration data after the BSS (at least one BSC
and one BTS) starts to provide services.
1.2 BSS Data Adjustment Modes
The BSS data adjustment modes are the static mode and the dynamic mode. If the data
configuration disrupts the services, you must use the static mode. If the configuration does not
affect the services, use the dynamic mode.
1.3 Tools for BSS Data Adjustment
Dynamic and static data configuration must be implemented through man-machine language
(MML) commands. At present, MML commands are run through the service maintenance
system.

1 Definition of BSS Data Adjustment

1.1 Definition of BSS Data Adjustment

BSS data adjustment is the adjustment of BSS configuration data after the BSS (at least one BSC
and one BTS) starts to provide services.
The focus here is the data configuration and the adjustment process. The hardware planning of
system expansion, analysis of network optimization data, calculation of the number of links on
interfaces depend on actual network conditions.
The causes of BSS data adjustment are system expansion and network conversion.

System Expansion
System expansion means the addition of hardware and the change of the current data
configuration to achieve a larger capacity.

Network Conversion
Network conversion means the network adjustment and optimization based on the performance
measurement or drive test during network operation.

1.2 BSS Data Adjustment Modes

The BSS data adjustment modes are the static mode and the dynamic mode. If the data
configuration disrupts the services, you must use the static mode. If the configuration does not
affect the services, use the dynamic mode.

Static Data Configuration Mode

BSC static data configuration
In static data configuration, you need to batch prepare and modify all the configuration data and
load the data at a time. This configuration mode is used in the following cases: configuring a
BSC for the first time, restarting a BSC, and changing most of the existing configuration data.
In static mode, only the BAM database service tables and configuration files are modified. The
configuration files are sent to the boards and modules after you format the database service tables
to generate data files and reset the boards.
To configure the BSC in static mode, do as follows:

1-2

1.

Run the LST DYNSWT:; command to query the system dynamic status.

2.

If the system is in the online state, run the LOF:; command to switch the system to the
offline state.

3.

If the system is in the dynamic state, run the MOD DYNCFGSWT: DYNCFGSWT=OFF;
command to switch the system to the static state.

4.

Use a text editor to create or modify the configuration file that contains all the configuration
data of the BSC. The configuration file is named as XXXX.txt, where XXXX can be random
characters.

5.

On the Service Maintenance System, perform batch processing for the configuration files.

6.

Run the MOD DYNCFGSWT: DYNCFGSWT=ON; command to switch the system to the
dynamic state and format the data files.

7.

Reset the boards or the subracks to start loading the data files.

8.

Run the LON command to switch the system to online mode.

CAUTION
l

If you configure the BSC in static mode, the data in the boards may not be the same as the
data in the BAM!

After you configure the BSC in static mode, you need to reset the boards to make the data
take effect. Resetting boards may interrupt the services provided by these boards!

Static data configuration

In static data configuration, you need to batch prepare and modify all the configuration data and
load the data at a time. Generally, this mode is used only in the scenarios of BTS deployment,
BTS restart, or batch modification of configuration data.
To configure BTS data statically, do as follows:
1.

Use a text compilation tool to prepare or modify the configuration file that contains all the
configuration data of the BTS. The configuration file is named as BTSXXXX.txt, where
XXXX is the BTS ID.

2.

Save the configuration file to D:\cdma2000\BTSLoad\cfg on the BAM.

3.

Run the DLD CBTSSW command to load the configuration file to the target BTS and
activate the configuration file.

Dynamic Data Configuration Mode

BSC dynamic data configuration
In dynamic data configuration, the configuration takes effect immediately. If you do not need
to restart the BTS, you should use this mode.
The BSC dynamically modify the data tables in the BAM database and sends the new
configuration data to the boards.
To configure BSC data dynamically, perform the following steps:
1.

Run the LST DYNSWT:; command to query the system dynamic status.

2.

If the system is in the static state, run the MOD DYNCFGSWT: DYNCFGSWT=ON;
command to switch the system to the dynamic state.

3.

If the system is in the offline state, run the LON:; command to switch the system to the
online state.

4.

Run MML configuration commands on the service maintenance system.

Dynamic data configuration

In the dynamic data configuration, the configuration takes effect immediately. If you do not need
to restart the BTS, you should use this mode.
Dynamic data configuration means that you modify the data on the host board directly.

1 Definition of BSS Data Adjustment

To configure BTS data dynamically, perform the following steps:

1.

Run MML configuration commands on the service maintenance system.

2.

Run the SAV CBTSCFG command to save the latest operation data of the BTS to the flash
memory of the main control board and to the configuration file on the BAM.

1.3 Tools for BSS Data Adjustment

Dynamic and static data configuration must be implemented through man-machine language
(MML) commands. At present, MML commands are run through the service maintenance
system.
NOTE

You can also configure the BTS through Telnet. This method is hardly used, so this document omits it.
Unless specified, all configuration operations in this manual are performed through the service maintenance
system.
