Proforma for submission of proposal under the scheme

MODERNISATION & REMOVAL OF OBSOLESCENCE

The scheme aims to modernize and remove obsolescence in the Laboratories / Workshops/
Computing facilities (Libraries are excluded), so as to enhance the functional efficiency of Technical
Institutions for Teaching, Training and experimenting purposes.
It also supports new innovations in Class Room and Laboratory / Teaching Technology, development
of Lab Instructional Material and appropriate Technology to ensure that the practical work and
project work to be carried out by students is contemporary and suited to the needs of the Industry.
The equipment financed under the scheme up to a limit of Rs 20 lakhs /- could be ideally used for
up gradation of equipment in existing laboratories, enhancement of performance parameter
specification of existing equipment, incorporation of latest development in the field and
replacement of old depreciated equipment by modern equipment.
In addition to above major objectives, the equipment installed through MODROBS can be used for
indirect benefit to Faculty / Students through Continuing Education programmes, Training
programmes for local industry and consultancy work.

Lab to be funded

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Current lab utilization

The lab is utilized for imparting instructions to UG and PG

students. Instrument like pre-stressing bed is used for
developing concepts of pre-stressing in BE (Civil Engg) VII
semester students and ME (Structural Engg) I semester
students. Lab is used by BE (Civil Engg) VIII semester students
in their project. Compression testing machines are utilized by
students of I year BE (All branches) and IV Semester B.E. (Civil
Engg) for determining strength of Building materials like
cement, concrete, brick etc.

Strength & Weakness

The lab is a spacious having equipment like compression

testing machines, pre-stressing bed, beam testing system,

loading frame, etc. The equipments are useful in developing
concept of some of the aspects of structural engineering
through testing and demonstration. However owing to recent
technological developments, most of the equipments available
in the lab have become outdated. Also, the equipment available
in the lab is inadequate to cope up with the requirements of PG
programme in Structural Engg.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Title of proposal
ENHANCEMENT OF TESTING FACILITIES IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY
Add rows as required

Abstract
Equipments included in the proposal are based on latest technology which enables the
engineer to look into the constructed facilities. Thus quality of construction material,
presence of deficiencies, and regions of weakness can be identified. Most of the existing
equipments, installed in the lab have been procured way back in 60s. With the advent of
digital technology, manufacturers are now producing digital machine which are not only
easy to handle but also more precise. Therefore it is imperative to give exposure of such
machines to our students.
Add rows as required

Objective
The study is related to health monitoring of structures. Efforts will be made to develop
facility which can be used to identify the weaknesses in a structure with respect to its
strength, durability etc and establish its stability.
Add rows as required

Project Impact -Expected outcome

The facility is likely to result into capacity building in the students through which they will be able to
monitor health of existing structures, quality of material used, stability check of existing buildings,
deterioration due to corrosion etc.
