IEC 60034-30-2 Scope

IEC 60034-30-2 Energy Efficiency classification

of variable speed motors as a component
Covered
Industrial motors which mostly run
continuously at or near rated load,
and whose speed is not required to
change often or rapidly.

Not Covered
Motors that are designed
for servo applications, i.e.
applications where
frequent overload or fieldweakening operations or
frequent speed or torque
changes occur or no
thermal steady state
operation is reached.

New Table IE5
Test at 100% torque and 90% speed to allow full magnetic flux
Reduction of the nominal efficiency limits (table values)
by an 15% / 25% allowance rHL
- due to additional motor losses from converter supply and
- due to lower efficiency at 90% test speed

n is the new nominal efficiency limit for converter motors acc. to 34-30-2
ref is the nominal efficiency limit from the tables
(taken from IEC 60034-30-1 / 50 Hz)

IEC 60034-2-3 - Interpolation Procedure

Energy Efficiency and Loss Interpolation Formula

To determine losses and efficiency of more complex load
profiles, the new edition of IEC 60034-3-2 establishes
standardized tests and an interpolation procedure.
Interpolation Formula:
, = + + + + + +

Same formula for all types of electric machines (synchronous, asynchronous)

Applicable to all speeds in the base speed range (constant torque, constant flux)
Applicable to all torques from no-load to rated torque (plus some overloading)
Several ways to determine the interpolation coefficients cL1, ..., cL7 for manufacturers
Always the same interpolation for customers

IEC 60034-2-3 - Interpolation Procedure

Coefficients from 7 Measurements

Analytical determination of coefficients using

7 simple algebraic formulas:

IEC 60034-2-3 - Interpolation Procedure

Coefficients from 16 Measurements

QISI is the standard deviation of the interpolation errors at 16 load points

QISI <= 10 % good

QISI <= 20 % acceptable

100

Best-fit Coefficients
Incorporates all 16 (or more) load-points
The coefficients are determined numerically
(using EXCEL or MATLAB) by a search for the
minimum QISI

Torque

By using a grid of 16 measurement points at 25, 50, 75 and 100%

speed and torque, the quality of the interpolation can be assessed.

Application of Standards and Regulations

EU directives, EU regulations,
DOE rules, National Legislation
etc.
are legally binding
('it's the law').

Standards (IEC, ISO, EN, NEMA,...)

are not legally binding, unless:
they are referred to in a legal text,
the manufacturer references them
in the product documentation,
for example by printing IEC 60034
on the rating plate,
the customer orders according to
a certain standard,
a manufacturer joins a marketing
agreement that refers to certain
standards, for example NEMA
PREMIUM.
Only the normative parts must be
followed when a standard or a series
of standards is/are applied.
Informative parts, technical
specifications and technical reports
may be ignored.

New EU regulation (EC) No 347/2016 (WTO G/TBT/N/EU/347)

Energy-related products covered by implementing measures

under the Ecodesign Directive (2009/125/EC)
amending (EC) No 640/2009
