The table below on page 3 is my professional development plan to meet

Domain F, TPE 13: Professional Growth. The professional development plan
spans 5 years and is displayed in a 2 column table, with the goal step and
description on the left side and the plan on action on the right side.
My Professional Development Plan
As a brand new educator, I have created a relatively simple professional
growth plan. As I gain experience in education I may tailor the plan, and
extend or replace activities to match my interests and ambitions. I will be
entering education as a secondary social science teacher, however the main
theme of my professional growth is ELD. Due to my personal history working
with Iraqi and Somali refugees, I wanted to be an ELD teacher before the ELD
CSET was created. By the time this new CSET was created, I was 1 semester
away from student teaching for social science and too far in the credential
program to start over, so I completed the social science credential.
Fortunately, I had a great time student teaching and now look forward to
teaching social science. Also, ELD and social science are strongly connected
and I can implement my ELD knowledge in the social science classroom.
Something from TPE 13 I did not include in my growth plan is teachers
improve their teaching practices by soliciting feedback and engaging in
cycles of planning, teaching, reflecting, discerning problems, and applying
new strategies (CTC, 2013, 17). Out of all the ways to self-assess, recording
my own teaching was the most valuable to me. In case this is not a practical

method of constant assessment due to student family permission or
technology, I plan to invite teachers to observe my classes and offer
feedback so I may constantly improve.

Professional Development Plan

1.Identify your professional goal
Goal: Complete an additional CSET to be a
credentialed ELD teacher, take the lead in
my departments ELD strategies
Theme: ELD, content instruction

2. Explore options that will facilitate

meeting your goal

3. Select appropriate option(s) and

design action for accomplishing these
goals

4. Implement the plan

Performance Standard: Domain C ,TPE 7:

Supporting and Engaging Students, Domain
F, TPE 13: Developing as a Professional
Educator
Options: Pass the ELD CSET, take any
necessary university course to meet
credential requirements, volunteer as a
leader for my departments ELD concerns,
attend ELD workshops held by the district or
local universities and share this information
with my colleagues
Action Plan:
2017: Complete ELD CSET subtests
1,2,3
2018: Volunteer to tutor ELD students
in English and social science with my
schools Beyond the Bell program
2019: Register with UCLA extension
program and enroll in Foundations
and Methods of English
Language/Literacy Development and
Content Instruction and present my
collected resources to my colleagues
at a department PD meeting
2020: Attend LA County Office of
Education 5-day EL Coach Network
covering the latest updates on policy,
issues, practices, research and
response to intervention
2021: Seek a volunteer position as
teacher representative of my school
for the LAUSD school board meetings
When and How:
So as not to overwhelm myself my
first year teaching, I will plan on
completing my extra CSET during my
summer time off. This CSET tests via

computer year round.
For year 2 of teaching I will apply my
certification to assist ELD students in
after school tutoring, this also helps
my school and shows I take initiative
in helping students succeed.
The UCLA course I am interested in
taking will provide me with additional
course units to raise me on the pay
scale and is available for my
convenience online. I would also take
this course during summer so I may
focus on teaching during the school
year.
By year 4 of employment I feel
confident I will be ready to attend a
multi-day conference in a specialty
area. I will stay up to date about the
conference via email list and put in
my request to attend early to my
school.
To become a school representative for
the board meetings I will notify my
department chair that I would like the
position at the beginning of the year.
I will attend monthly meetings and
represent the voice of my teachers
regarding social science and apply my
knowledge of ELD research, policy
and struggles while at the meetings
to determine not just problems, but
solutions.
Materials or documents to collect:
Proof of completion of CSET
After the Bell student ELD work
samples or portfolios to monitor
progress
Proof of completion of UCLA extension
course
Various ELD/social science lesson
templates, lectures, case studies
Digital recording of me presenting my
multi-day conference findings to
colleagues

5. Select and develop evidence that

illustrates implementation of this
plan

6. Reflection

Proper work documenting my time as

a representative on school board
meetings
I like my 5-year plan because the goals are
measureable and specific and the workload
I take on to meet them gradually increases
with my teaching experience. For example,
during my first 2-3 years of teaching, the
particular activities I participate in to further
my knowledge will take place in summer, so
I may prioritize student learning and my
instructional technique during the school
year. The responsibility level also rises and
each steps brings me more involvement
with my school and higher administration.
For years 1-3, only I am in charge of making
the goals and monitoring my progress.
When I take on goals 4 and 5, I have a
responsibility to other staff members to
share and present my knowledge in a
meaningful and practical way, and to
professionally represent my school.
