Code: Title: Music Industry Practicum


Institute: Humanities Department: Music
Course Description: A 15-week internship in the music industry intended as a capstone
experience for the Associate of Applied Science in Music Technology. Internships may take place
in the fields of music products retail and wholesale, arts management, marketing, promotions,
recording, live sound, venue operations, sound design, and/or audio production.
Music Industry internships are usually done in the final semester following completion of the
students other required coursework.

supervisors may assign reading/study material as needed.

COURSE LEARNING O UTCOMES :


Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Understand the of problems and careers in the music industry


Apply knowledge, theory, and understanding in a job situation
Demonstrate the development of marketable skills
Display an awareness of computer technology and digital media as it is applied in other
fields
Operate music technology hardware and software for recording, editing, mixing, applying
audio effects, MIDI sequencing, and notation.

GRADING STANDARD: Grades are based on timely completion of journal entries, submission of a
project portfolio, and evaluation by the on-site supervisor.
Journal Entries: 40%
Project Portfolio: 40%
Evaluation: 20%
A grade of A will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 93-100.
A grade of A- will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 90-92.
A grade of B+ will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 87-89.
A grade of B will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 83-86.
A grade of B- will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 80-82.
A grade of C+ will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 77-79.

A grade of D will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation of between 60-69.
A grade of F will be assigned for students with a total point accumulation below 60.
