1. WEAP SOFTWARE
The Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP) aims to incorporate these
values into a practical tool for water resources planning. WEAP is
distinguished by its integrated approach to simulating water systems and by
its policy orientation. WEAP places the demand side of the equation-water
use patterns, equipment efficiencies, re-use, prices, hydropower energy
demand, and allocation--on an equal footing with the supply side- stream
flow, groundwater, reservoirs and water transfers. WEAP is a laboratory for
examining alternative water development and management strategies.
WEAP is comprehensive, straightforward and easy-to-use, and attempts to
assist rather than substitute for the skilled planner. As a database, WEAP
provides a system for maintaining water demand and supply information. As
a forecasting tool, WEAP simulates water demand, supply, flows, and
storage, and pollution generation, treatment and discharge. As a policy
analysis tool, WEAP evaluates a full range of water development and
management options, and takes account of multiple and competing uses of
water systems.
WEAP is applicable to municipal and agricultural systems, single subbasins or
complex river systems. Moreover, WEAP can address a wide range of issues,
e.g., sectoral demand analyses, water conservation, water rights and
allocation priorities, groundwater and streamflow simulations, reservoir
operations, hydropower generation and energy demands, pollution tracking,
ecosystem requirements, and project benefit-cost analyses.
The analyst represents the system in terms of its various supply sources
(e.g., rivers, creeks, groundwater, and reservoirs); withdrawal, transmission
and wastewater treatment facilities; ecosystem requirements, water

demands and pollution generation. The data structure and level of detail may
be easily customized to meet the requirements of a particular analysis, and
to reflect the limits imposed by restricted data.

3. EPANET SOFTWARE
EPANET is a program that analyzes the hydraulic and water quality behavior
of water distribution systems. The EPANET Programmer's Toolkit is a dynamic
link library (DLL) of functions that allows developers to customize EPANET's
computational engine for their own specific needs. The functions can be
incorporated into 32-bit Windows applications written in C/C++, Delphi
Pascal, Visual Basic, or any other language that can call functions within a
Windows DLL. The Toolkit DLL file is named EPANET2.DLL and is distributed
with EPANET. The Toolkit comes with several different header files, function
definition files, and lib files that simplify the task of interfacing it with C/C++,
Delphi, and Visual Basic code. EPANET tracks the flow of water in each pipe,
the pressure at each node, the height of water in each tank, and the
concentration of a chemical species throughout the network during a multi-

time period simulation. In addition to chemical species, water age and source
tracing can also be simulated.
EPANET helps water utilities maintain and improve the quality of water
delivered to consumers. It can be used to:

design sampling programs,

study disinfectant loss and by-product formations,
conduct consumer exposure assessments,
evaluate alternative strategies for improving water quality, such as

altering source use within multi-source systems,

modify pumping and tank filling/emptying schedules to reduce

water age,
use booster disinfection stations at key locations to maintain target

residuals, and
plan and improve a system's hydraulic performance,
assist with pipe, pump, and valve placement and sizing,
energy minimization,

4. WATERCAD SOFTWARE
WaterCAD is an easy-to-use hydraulic and water quality modeling application
for water distribution systems. Utilities, municipalities, and engineering firms
trust WaterCAD as a reliable, resource saving, decision-support tool for their
water infrastructure. From fire flow and constituent concentration analyses,
to energy cost management and pump modeling, WaterCAD helps engineers
and utilities analyze, design, and optimize water distribution systems.
WaterCAD maintains a single set of modeling files for true interoperability
across platforms. The stand-alone interface offers unparalleled versatility
with easy-to-use model layout tools, multiple background support, and
conversion utilities from CAD, GIS, and databases, and unlimited undo and

redo layout. WaterCAD can open WaterGEMS and HAMMER models

seamlessly, including those created within ArcGIS.
5. HAMMER SOFTWARE
HAMMER is a program which simulates the effects of water hammer in a
reservoir and pipeline system in which a valve at the downstream end is
opened or closed by the user. The program is a product of the Urban Water
Systems Group, School of Civil Engineering, Queensland University of
Technology. The program solves the differential equations of transient flow in
a simple pipeline with a reservoir at the upstream end and a valve at the
downstream end. The aim of the program is to provide a demonstration of
the effects of water hammer in a simple pipe, reservoir and valve system.
The method of characteristics is used in the solution of the differential
equations.
6. STORM CARD SOFTWARE
StormCAD is a comprehensive modeling software program for the design and
analysis of storm sewer systems. Its intuitive interface makes it easier than
ever to design and analyze storm sewer systems from gutter to outlet.
StormCAD provides calculations for catchment runoff, gutters, inlets,
junctions, pipe networks, and outfalls.
Available in stand-alone and AutoCAD interfaces, StormCAD includes
automated constraint-based design features for construction elements,
scenario and data management, and reporting capabilities.
7. SEWER GEMS SOFTWARE
SewerGEMS is a fully-dynamic, multi-platform (stand-alone, MicroStation,
ArcGIS and AutoCAD) sanitary and combined sewer modeling solution. With
SewerGEMS, you will analyze all sanitary and combined sewer system
elements in one package and have the option of performing the analyses

with the SWMM algorithm or our own implicit solution of the full Saint-Venant
equations.
Sewer utilities and engineering firms use Sewer GEMS to:

Develop system master plans.

Meet sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) and combined sewer overflow

(CSO) regulations.

Optimize Best Management Practice (BMP) designs

Assess the impact of inflow and infiltration on SSOs.

Perform system evaluations associated with US-EPA CMOM and NPDES.

Optimize lift station and system storage capacities, and more.

8. AQUA CHEM SOFTWARE

Aquachem is a groundwater software package specifically designed for
anyone working with water data. This software is ideally suited for water
projects requiring management, analysis and reporting of groundwater
quality data. AquaChem's analysis tools cover a wide range of functions and
calculations used for analyzing, interpreting and comparing water quality
data. These tools include simple unit transformations, charge balances,
statistics and sample mixing to more complex functions such as correlation
matrices and geothermometer calculations. These powerful analytical
capabilities are complemented by an extensive selection of commonly used
geochemical plots and graphs to represent the chemical characteristics
water quality data.
AquaChem Applications

Analyze and report aqueous geochemistry of municipal groundwater

supply wells

Report analytical lab results of samples from contaminated sites

Manage water quality data from sanitary landfills

Identify mineralization trends for mining exploration

Analyze, interpret and plot water quality data

Identify and report water quality guideline exceedences

Demonstrate regulatory compliance with chemical exceedence and trend

analyses reports.

9. MODFLOW SOFTWARE
MODFLOW-USG is based on an underlying control volume finite difference
(CVFD) formulation in which a cell can be connected to an arbitrary number
of adjacent cells. To improve accuracy of the CVFD formulation for irregular
grid-cell geometries or nested grids, a generalized Ghost Node Correction
(GNC) Package was developed, which uses interpolated heads in the flow
calculation between adjacent connected cells.
MODFLOW-USG includes a Groundwater Flow (GWF) Process, based on the
GWF Process in MODFLOW-2005, as well as a new Connected Linear Network
(CLN) Process to simulate the effects of multi-node wells, karst conduits, and
tile drains, for example. The CLN Process is tightly coupled with the GWF
Process in that the equations from both processes are formulated into one
matrix equation and solved simultaneously. This robustness results from
using an unstructured grid with unstructured matrix storage and solution
schemes.
MODFLOW-USG also contains an optional Newton-Raphson formulation,
based on the formulation in MODFLOW-NWT, for improving solution

convergence and avoiding problems with the drying and rewetting of cells.
Because the existing MODFLOW solvers were developed for structured and
symmetric matrices, they were replaced with a new Sparse Matrix Solver
(SMS) Package developed specifically for MODFLOW-USG. The SMS Package
provides several methods for resolving nonlinearities and multiple symmetric
and asymmetric linear solution schemes to solve the matrix arising from the
flow equations and the Newton-Raphson formulation, respectively.
