A statement from Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C,I- East Patchogue) Today, the Assembly passed a bill (A.1749) that will place a constitutional amendment before voters this fall that strips taxpayer funded pensions from corrupt public officials. The Assembly Minority Conference and I have been calling for ethics reforms in Albany for years, and this is a step in the right direction. I am proud to be a co-sponsor of this bill, and I am sure that the voters will overwhelmingly support this amendment in November. Anyone who abuses the publics trust should not receive a public pension. Elected office is a privilege to hold, not a right to enjoy. I will always respect the office, and keep the voters and their interests first in my mind while I serve the people. Im proud to sponsor legislation that upholds the sanctity and dignity of public office. ###
