2. GENERAL

REQUIREMENTS

FOR

THE

SUPPLY

OF

MATERIAL
2.1 Genera l requ irements relating to supply of materia l sha ll be as

la id down in IS : 1387 1967*.

3. DESIGNATION
3.1 Crane ra il sections conforming to th is sta ndard shall be des ignated
by the letters 18CB. fo llowed by the head width of the rai l section in
mi llimctres. However, the cra ne rai l sections covered in Append ix A
s ha ll be designated by the weight in kg/m.

3.2 For shOD marking a nd drawing office purposes, abbreviated

refe rence sym bol C R in stead of ISCR may be perm itted provided
specific understa nd ing ex ists between the produce r, drawing office and
fa bricator.
4. CH EMICAL COMPOSI TION
4.1 T h e ma teria l when ana lysed i n accordance wit h t he appr opriate
part of IS: 228t and its re leva nt parts, sha ll have any of the che mical
compos it ions on the fin is hed product given in Tab le 1. The location of
sa mpl e for che mical analysis shall be as shown in I<'ig. 1.

5. TENSILE PROPERTIES
5.1 The tens ile test s pecimen sha ll be loca ted as s hown in Fig. 1 when
tested in accordance with IS 1608-1972t, the s teel sha ll have a
min imum tens ile strength of 710 M Pa (72 kgfi'mm2Lwith a min imum
elongation of 14 percent on a gauge length of 5.65JSowhere So is the
a rea of cross section of the specimen in the gauge le ngth.

6. HARDNESS
6.1 The hardness of the ra il head when tested in accordance with
IS : 1500- 1968* sha ll be not less than 200 HB.
7. SAMPLING
7.1 The number of sa mples to be tested for chemica l ana lys is, tensile
properties and hardness sha ll be one for every 100 tonncs or part
thereof subject to a minimum of one specimen per cast.
