Weweregiven2minutestopileupourthoughts.Neverputpenonpaper(advicedirectlygivenbyafewHRs).Try
gathering the required points in your mind in the given time rather than wasting time by writing them on
paper.Some people start writing paragraphs right from the word go.never worry looking at them.If you are not
familiarwiththetopic,waitforsomeonetostart,listentothemforaminuteorhalfandthenproceed.Elsetryto
startGDwhichgivesyouextrapoints.Neverarguewithothersingd.Trytospeakrelevantpointsinsteadofjust
speaking something else.Don't deviate from the main topic.If you find someone deviating try to bring back the
discussion to relevant area.If you don't find anything to speak, try catching the points others spoke of and
continue with that.Never look up to the HR while in a gd unless he calls.Try to maintain good eye contact with
otherswhilespeakingandlistening.SticktoYesorNothroughoutthegd,butnotboth.Ispokeonlytherelevant
points,nearly 810 and gave related examples considering our college system.Gd lasted for 10 minutes and 2
minutes was given for conclusion Shortlist was announced within 10 minutes.They shortlisted 6eee,2chem,2
meta.Following that they gave a 5page and a 2page set to fill the details.5page set was concerned personal
details.The2pagesetconsistedofquestionslike'whatdoyouthinkisthemostimportantaspectofteamwork',

Assoonasienteredtheinterviewroomigavethemthesetsandmyresume.FirstlyThey(panelhad2members)
askedmequestionlike'DouthinkIndia'sperformanceincricketisdeclininginODIs?','explainwhyyouchoose
thespecificnumbersinyourmailid','couldthegdbeperformedbetter'.Theniwasaskedtointroducemyself.Then
they asked me what my favourite subject is,for which i answered power systems and machines(specifically
transformers).They,then started first asking questions related to transmission like what is skin effect,corona
loss,i^2*Rlossandhowtoeliminate/reducethem.ThentheymovedontoPSprotectionandaskedquestionslike
'whichrelaytripsfirstinasubstationandwhy','protectionschemesforgeneratorandtransformeranddifference
betweenthem','whatisthefirstthingthatcomesinasubstationwhenseenfromincomingend','whydoyouneed
arestrainingcoilinarelayandhowisitusefulintransformerprotection'.Thentheymovedontomachinesand
asked questions on 1phase transformers,questions related to its construction like interleaved windings,types of
cores,useoffinsinatransformer,detectingqualityoftransformeroilandfinallyonelectricalcircuits.Ianswered

mostofthequestionscorrect.correctinthesensenotjustrecitingthedefinitionintextbookbutexplainingeach
answer in depth conceptually.After this they started asking questions from the sets and my resume.This round
lastedfornearly5055minutes.Theyshortlisted2eee,1chemand2metaforsecondround.
PERSONALINTERVIEW(HR)

The HR round(Second round) was more of technical than HR.The panel consisted of 2 members(different from
former).Iwasagainaskedtointroducemyselfandsoontheystartedaskingquestionsonelectronicslike'typical
symbols of diode,mosfets,transistors,difference between them','explain about inductance and capacitance
properties','materials used to make capacitors,cores,transmission lines and why only those are used','difference
between electrical and electronics' etc.Then some general questions like 'tell me your 3 biggest
achievements','what'syoursignificantcontributiontocollege',etc..,.Theythenaskedifihadanydoubtsregarding
workandlocation.Thisroundlastedfornearly3540minutes.
SUMMARYOFEXPERIENCES

Interviewersconcentratedmoreontechnicalsectionasitwastheirmainrequirement.everythingwentsmoothly
andquickly.
SUGGESTIONSTOJUNIORS

0.AttendingPPTisamusttogetknowaboutthecompany,allofwhichyoucan'tfindinthewebsite.
1.Makeyourresumesimple(Max2pages)andpinpoint.Resumeshouldnevercontainthethingswhichyouarenot
goodat.
2.Whenyouareoptingforcoreprofile,thethingthatmattersthemostis'Howwellyouknow'ratherthan'How
much you know'.You can never learn whole of electrical engineering in life time. So whatever you learn,learn it
completelyindepth.Forexample,iftheyaskyouwhatisskineffect,don'tjustsayRac>Rdc.Trytoexplainthem
from basics how it happens.Be strong in basics.That's it. At the same time don't over do anywhere trying to be
smart.Answerconfidentlywhenasked
3.If you wish to say Power Electronics as your favourite subject when asked,just make sure you are good at
analog electronics also(not just basics,but in depth).Else They will rip you apart by asking Analog and digital
electronics also.And don't even tell Control systems,unless you are good at answering nyquist,bode plots and
stabilityconceptscorrectly
4.If any of your friends have gone to gate coaching,try to refer their notes before going so that you get to
understandconceptsindepth
5.If you have mentioned about your industrial training etc., get to know the stats of the plant well.In particular
abouttheSwitchyard(substation)equipments.
6.Gettoknowworkingofequipmentsusedinhouseholdslikefan,tubelight,inductionstoveetc.,.
7.Neveraskquestionsaboutsalaryintheinterview.
8.Beconfidentlookingwhileansweringthequestionsirrespectiveofwhetheryouhaveansweredrightorwrong
9.Nevershareallyourquestionsthatwereaskedininterviewwithyourfriendswhoaregoingtobeinterviewed
next.Thisnotwrongatall.Thisisaonetimechance.sofocusmoreonyourselfratherthanworryingaboutothers
atthatpoint.Yes,youhavetobeselfishduringthattimenomatterwhatbecausewhenyoumissthechanceall
otherscoulddoisjustpatyouonyourbackandsaydon'tworry.Ifyoumissonce,itwilltakegoodamountoftime
topreparementalagain.
