Influence of 5 Elements

The causative nature of the five elements: Water, Air, Fire, Earth and Space are the key to the
study and practice of MahaVastu.
The foundation of MahaVastu is Sankhya Darshan (Indian Metaphysics), which is the basis of
all Indian sciences like Yoga, Ayurveda, Tantra and many more.
The entire Universe, whether it is stars, planets, moons, or any form of life, is made up of these
five elements. In buildings each direction is dominated by one element - a balanced state being
the cause of positive, and an imbalanced state the cause of negative effects.

It is the balance or imbalance among these Panchtattva that makes one's Space a virtual heaven
or hell.

An underground water tank in South Zone will cause anxiety, fire-accidents, restlessness and
disturbed sleep. Similarly, the fire placed in North Zone (Zone of Water) will block new
opportunities, receipt of payments and lack of orders, as they are attributes of this Zone. So here
in these examples, you can see how an imbalanced state of elements in a building creates
problematic real-life situations.

Water

It is associated with conception of new ideas, clarity of thoughts, creation of new vision, flowing
of new opportunities in your life, healing energy, immunity and restoration of health. Water
dominates the North direction in buildings.
Balanced State
When Water is in balanced state in a building, the people in such buildings are able to see the
larger picture of life. Though their attitude towards life becomes spiritual and philosophical, they
are, at the core, essentially, worldly beings.

Air

Air represents growth in your life. It is also associated with movement, especially rotational
movement, so it brings refreshment, fun, joy and happiness in life. This element dominates the
East. The Chinese call it the Wood element.

Balanced State
Air gives you the courage to try new things, take risks for your growth and to explore your inner-
self. You get to meet people who pave the way for your growth and you perform impressively.

Fire

Fire is the driving force behind all life processes and thus is equated with money in modern era.
It can transform your life with confidence and enthusiasm. South is the direction of Fire.

Balanced State
In its balanced state, Fire brings you fame and recognition among the masses. It gives you zeal,
power, strength, confidence and money, which become the driving force behind life and its
processes.

Earth

Mother Earth gives stability. balance, infinite patience and maturity in character are imbued by
this element. Earth dominates the centre and diagonal directions in every built-up Space.

Balanced State
When balanced, this element induces stability in your life - be it your career, behaviour,
relationships, or results of your efforts. It encourages towards a feeling of peace and harmony
with the entire world - especially with those related by blood.

Space

Space represents expansion, enhancement, extension, spread, communication and even thought
process (Mental Space). Space dominates the Western direction. The Chinese call it the Metal
element owing to perfect space configuration in metals (Atomic Structure).

Balanced State
In a balanced state, Space gives you the charge of your destiny. It gives you a sense of direction
and the ability to get organized, ensuring that you excel in all that you do. Space gives you the
knowledge and awareness to understand new, creative and beneficial ideas.
Vastu Purush Mandala - Energy Fields

Enlarge View
Every building is governed by energy-fi elds which are termed as Devtas, these comprise
a vital element of MahaVastu.

Man makes structures and buildings to perform certain functions in a building. As soon
as space is enclosed, it starts behaving as a scaled down model of the Universe.
Diff erent energy-fi elds emerge automatically. These energy-fi elds react with human
consciousness. They alter, blend and redirect consciousness as per their own attributes.

There are 45 such major energy-fi elds in a building that control and infl uence
consciousness, and 980 minor energy-fi elds. These energy-fi elds are termed as Devtas
in Sanskrit. The meaning of the word Dev is, 'the one who is self-Illuminating'. As per
the property of the energy-fi eld, their names were derived. In a building, the
combination of 45 Devtas is called Vastu Purush Mandala the one who is carrying 45
energy fi elds is Vastu Dev. These 45 energy fi elds or Devtas are mentioned in detail in
Vedas.

The presence of these Devtas has been felt at a specifi c place in any building. Exactly
the same form of energy (corresponding to a Devta) gets developed in exactly the same
portion/place/space, in a building, when it is constructed, forming a grid, which has been
termed as Vastu Purush Mandala .

It's really interesting to know the attributes of these fi elds. For example, Indra is Devta
or presiding God of East and contains the power of controlling infl uence. Symbolically,
Indra is considered as mind, the ruler of 5 physical senses. In a society, Indra represents
the ruling power that connects and binds people together.
Yama is the God of absolute rest and power to bring any phenomena to completion.
Completion of one's life on this planet is considered as death; so in Hindu Vedic
philosophy Yama is perceived as the God of death also. Varuna is the observer and
controller of worldly aff airs, the presiding Devta of West. Gods of all the seas on Earth is
also Varuna. He is responsible for creating the governing protocols of the world.

Soma is a Vedic god of elixir of life and presiding Devta of North zone. He also has
properties of healing and sexual power. Transformation of sexual energy in elixir is
governed by Soma. Bhudhar carries the power to manifest. Aryama has the power to
connect with the world in order to (fi nd a mating companion to) sustain the process of
evolution. Vivaswan controls the change, which in turn, initiates (manifestation of) the
whole existence.

Mitra, which has been invoked repeatedly in Atharvaveda, carries the power of holding
the world together; and, Aapaha boosts your immune system. In Vedic literature Aapah
is perceived as power that is responsible for all the fl ows in Universe. Sometimes that
very meaning comes very close to the fl ow of a river. So Aapah is responsible to
preserve the fl ow of life by empowering the immune system.

Now you can imagine, why you are the way you are! Hindus in the past clearly defi ned
the attributes of these energy fi elds; they developed the art of perfect placement of
diff erent activities to experience the peak performance in their actions. Based on this
understanding, they made temples to such a great precision so as to fulfi ll their wishes.
VastuShastri Khushdeep Bansal believes that old Hindu temples are ideal examples of
the application of the Alchemy of Space. The same knowledge tools are used in
MahaVastu to solve problems or to achieve your targets.
