Abstract

In India, the construction industry is the second largest manufacturing

and employment industry after agriculture accounting for roughly 5-6% of the
gross domestic product (CCI, 2015). As the sustainable environment has an
impact on the national economy and environment, higher attention has been
placed on economical and environmental impacts associated with construction
and operation of structures. Hence, prominence toward a more sustainable
approach to green building design and cost effectiveness has gained momentum.
Therefore, this research studied national and international green building
assessment tools such as such as LEED, CASBEE, BREEAM, GBTool, GRIHA,
IGBC, eco-housing and others. Based on the green building framework
developed by (Vyas and Jha 2015) parameter were weighted using the analytic
hierarchy process (AHP) and most significant green building parameters in
Indian scenario were found. To develop green building cost model is a very
prominent factor as world is moving towards sustainable construction. The main
aim of this study is to maximize greenness of new construction in the limited
fund by applying data envelopment analysis (DEA). Findings of this paper can be
helpful to green building planners, designers and developers.
