DATES TO Dear Parents and Caregivers
REMEMBER Welcome back to Yakamia Primary School, and a warm welcome to our new
families who have joined us this year. We have had a great start to the year,
with students settling straight into their new classes and being organised to
- THURSDAYS School focus on achieving their best in 2017. We have started the year with 426
Banking , in the hall students from K6, and 18 classes.
It has been terrific to see students in their school uniform of a red (or white) polo
shirt and green bottoms. A school uniform unites students as a school
- Wk 2Thursday 9 community and builds a cohesive environment. Uniforms can be purchased
Feb, Swimming trials from the canteen Tuesdays to Fridays from 8:30am11:00am. A reminder also
for Years 3-6 that students need to be wearing a bucket hat ($13 from the canteen) this
term. If students do not have a bucket hat they will need to play in the shade.
One of our goals at Yakamia Primary School is for staff and parents to work
- Wk 2 Friday 10 together as a learning community to support your child/ren in their education
FebStudent and their wellbeing. I encourage you to come along and be involved in our
Councillor Assembly school as much as you can. This could include parent help in classes,
volunteering in the canteen, being a member of the P&C, attending assemblies
and class activities. This term teachers are looking forward to meeting with
- Wk 3Thursday 16 parents and getting to know you. Each class will have a class meeting or
Feb P&C AGM conference with parents by Week 5. Individual class notes will be sent out
regarding the dates and times of these meetings.

Congratulations to our Student Councillors for 2017, they have already shown
wonderful leadership skills and a positive manner. This year we have
introduced to our student leadership team a Head Boy and Head Girl. They
have they same duties as a councillor, and are also responsible for attending
out of school and special events and supporting their school councillor peers.
Our first assembly this year will be run by the Student Councillors. This will be
on Friday the 10 February, and we welcome all families to attend.

School News
Each year we ask for parents to pay Contributions. The contributions for each child are:
Pre Primary to Year 6$60
Kindergarten$50
This payment helps provide additional resources for our students. This year the
contributions will go towards supporting updating technology in our school,
including purchasing a full class set of laptops for our students to use in class for
learning.
Families who pay their contributions by the end of Term 1 will go into a draw to
win a Mini-iPad. This is a great prize that can be used by the whole family.
Contributions can be paid off on a payment plan organised with the school Manager of Corporate Services
or in a lump sum. Payments can be made by cash, cheque or direct deposit into our account: Yakamia
Primary School; BSB: 016-510, A/C: 340823089. Thank you for your support in making these payments.
This year we are very fortunate to have an Art Teacher who will work with students from Years 16.
Mrs Walsh will be teaching Visual Arts in the art room Wednesdays to Fridays. We are very excited to be
able to offer this opportunity to our students, and to develop their creativity.
Our canteen is in need for volunteers to assist in the morning. If you are able to lend a hand, please see
Charmaine in the canteen. We will commence our class rotation of volunteers shortly. All help is much
appreciated.
Tuesday Coffee! Every Tuesday 8.15am to 8.50am Koffee Boost coffee van will be situated outside our
administration office for parents and staff to purchase coffee. This is a great opportunity to purchase
yourself a treat before starting your day. Thanks to Nataley Norton for providing us with this service.
