Everel JFE

Alan J.

I worked for Everel Group S.p.A., which is an international corporation tasked with manufacturing electronic

components. My mentors were Mrs. Amy Zachary and Mr. Al Middleton, Mrs. Zachary was the main JFE manager,

our project director was Mr. Middleton, of whom advised us on the deliverable aspect of our JFE. I had 3 major

tasks in the duration of this project. The tasks were completion of organizing switches in the warehouse, creation of

the nondestructive environmental and vibration tables, and project documentation with the use of Inspiration. To

learn some of these tasks I had to attend special training sessions with my partners on the early days of my JFE.

Throughout my JFE, I learned a lot of soft skills as well as hard skills, such as leadership, problem solving, and

creativity in the construction of our table design. Some of the hard skills that I acquired were the application of new

software, presentation skills, and business experience. I used several utilities in the project which includes word

processing, packing technology, and Inspiration software. Overall, I really enjoyed the business aspect of technology

in Everel and how it really exceeded my expectations of what a business corporation was.

Filming Tutorial Videos for FAA Engineering Services Technicians

Cameron L.

For my Junior Fellowship Experience, I had the opportunity to intern at the Federal Aviation Administrations

Engineering Services Department under the mentorship of Mr. Matt Herlihy and Mr. Eron Osman. For my

internship, I worked in a team of four GSMST students and we were tasked to create a tutorial video on how to

make an EZ-RJ45 Cable for FAA technicians in the field. In my team, I held the position of Video Support and was

responsible for producing the longer version of the tutorial video and developing graphics and visuals. Throughout

the internship, I learned how to skillfully use Adobe Premiere Pro, the editing software, and learned how to correctly

film an appealing tutorial video. I also had the chance to improve my communication, presentation skills and

graphics design skills. From the knowledge I have gained through this experience, I can better prepare myself for a

career in the engineering field by using the video production methods I learned and applying them to advertise or

present my future engineering projects.

Mason Elementary Robotics Club Internship Experience

Charles G.

For my Junior Fellowship Experience I worked at Mason Elementary School. Manik Dutta, another GSMST

student, worked with me under Ms. Shay Buchanan. My main tasks included being the structure specialist to

help advise the kids on the structural components of the robot, prep and cleanup for the room that we worked in,

and acting as a co-manager of the whole club. We managed almost the entire operation ourselves with Ms.

Buchanan being primarily a sponsor. The principal learning outcomes are knowing how to utilize the VEXIQ

system as well as the easy-C programing language, while I gained soft skills in the form of being able to manage

elementary schoolers which will come in handy later this year and next year during Senior Capstone Experience.

While I was at Mason I utilized easy-C, eClass, and the VEXIQ robotics platform to create the kids curriculum

for the year. I have gone to a couple of work days at Maniks house on the VEXIQ field. Overall my experience

at Mason Elementary School was a great learning and life skills building experience.

My Journey at Everel America

James K.

Phenomenal that would be my single word description for the captivating experience I had working for Everel

America. As a company specializing in the production of electrical/mechanical goods, it didnt take long for me to

develop interest in the company. When I first met my mentor, Mrs. Zachery I knew I was in good hands. Not only

was Mrs. Zachery open to recruiting interns, but she also welcomed us with open arms, giving our group of three

little to worry about. With the inclusion of mentoring from Mr. and Ms. Middleton, the internship became not only

informative but also relaxing. Through-out our internship, we were given three primary responsibilities: organizing

switches, creating charts, and designing products. As our time at the internship came to a close, I can reflect back on

the experience positively, knowing we completed all the assigned tasks. At Everel, we mainly worked with switches,

due to the company specializing in their creation. We utilized a large variety of programs such as inventor,

providing the company a helping hand with designs. Furthermore, the skills needed to balance time, and working

specifically with switches became skills Im glad Ive learned. While I was worried at first, my internship at Everel

America was undoubtedly a resounding success.

Networking and Scripting at Cisco Systems

Janice C.

I interned at CISCO Systems with Kevin Murphy, a senior staff engineer. During the experience, I was responsible

for reading and interpreting various code scripts and commands, along with basic networking, and finally

accomplished making a trace route command website on the CISCO local host server, using the skills I developed

during the semester. Through this internship, I have developed key skills in identifying different types of code, such

as Java and Python. This introduced me to many new types of software required in software engineering, such as

ngRemote, PyCharm, and Notepad++. Overall, I found studying coding a remarkable process that allowed

information to be relayed. I personally believe the skills I developed are beneficial for future endeavors.

Internship at Coleman Middle School (STEAM)

John Q.

For this internship, I worked at Coleman Middle School, a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and

mathematics) school for several different assignments. Ms. Sheila Harmony mentored me during this experience,

and she helped me frequently on assignments. Three primary duties and accomplishments include the STEAM

flashcards, instruction manual assignment, and grant search. The STEAM flashcards consisted of finding facts about

the various components of STEAM and writing down on cards. The number of cards grew over time and I learned

much more about the STEAM fields. In the instruction manual assignment, I needed to write readable instruction

manuals for some robotic toy cars and a tablet. The skills learned during this internship include communication

skills for the instruction manuals (a soft skill) and research skills for the grant project (a hard skill). I utilized

Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Word for this internship. For special events, I traveled to the STEAM festival in

Duluth and helped set up the events there. This internship caused me to learn many skills and I enjoyed the

internship at Coleman Middle School.

Everel America Workplace Experience Abstract

Nakul U.

In my workplace experience at the electrical component manufacturer Everel America, I worked with my

mentors Amy Zachery, Dana Middleton, and Al Middleton. My primary responsibility during this experience

was the inspection, classification, and documentation of switches recalled from Vitamix. I also initiated a

project where my peers and I started to design a vibrating table for electrical component testing. In addition to

these, I helped analyze the ventilation in one of Everel Americas warehouse by looking at the properties of

common component and materials stored in it and proposed solutions to increase airflow, decrease energy loss,

and decrease overall temperature in the warehouse to create ideal conditions for electrical components and make

it more comfortable for people to work in. Through these tasks, I was able to refine many skills. One of these

skills was my ability to communicate with peers and superiors. I also analyzed and modified the way I worked

to more efficiently meet deadlines in the corporate world. My understanding of electrical components also

increased during this experience. This stemmed from a training session at the start of my internship. All of these

experiences are extremely valuable and could not be acquired without my internship.

Technicolor Junior Fellowship Experience

Sean L.

I worked at Technicolor on the Cisco Lawrenceville campus. Cornell Lewis Jr. was my main mentor. Although, I

had the opportunity to work with other colleagues such as Daniel Tsui, Kai Keasey, Bradford Rogers, John

McMillan, etc. My chief responsibilities were to disassemble set-top boxes, connect temperature probes to 20

channel multiplexer, and run test measuring temperature. Throughout my experience, I learned not to attempt to

scrap everything off a 3D part because the pressure washer truly will get the excess. Oils will ruin cloths, so I

learned the hard lesson to wear gloves when handling any type of complex machine since most are lubricated with

oil. When I have a question, I softly concluded that I should not hold back as that wastes more time than simply

asking. Technicolor provided a Dell laptop for my use. Other technologies that I used at my internship include:

thermocouples, 20 channel multiplexers and set-top boxes. Programs such as Agilent Data Logger, Pro Engineering

Creo 3.0, and 6 sigma are used frequently by my colleagues as well as myself for mechanical engineering purposes.

My internship has given me the potential to obtain future jobs using the connections I have made with my

colleagues.
