Timing Lesson Sequence Strategies/Activities

0-5 min - Attendance/agenda large class discussion

5-10 min - Community time group work
10-20 min - Watch Reef Life of the Andaman clip, lecture
then discuss various interactions
problem solving
between individuals and species,
then follow up with Cleaner wrasse graphic organizer
video to show cleaning stations jigsaw
20-25 min - Biological Interaction Jigsaw: Split note taking
class into 7 groups, each group is worksheet
responsible for filling out one section video
25-35 min - Number each student in each group
research
up to the the number of students in
the least populated group. Have them homework
form new groups, so that each group
contains at least one member from
each of the original groups. Students
share their findings with one another
and fill out worksheet.
35-40 min - Take up worksheet as a class, fill out
table
40-50 min - Population Growth powerpoint -
students take notes, finish up to
simple population growth, provide
example calculations
50-70 min - Textbook questions for homework

Assessment (of/for/as):

Assessment for learning: Monitor students as they explain the concepts in the jigsaw to
their peers to gain insight into understanding. Homework will be taken up next class to
give feedback.
