Instructional Strategies and Learning Tasks

Launch: _5_____ Minutes

How will you gain attention?

I plan on grabbing the students attention by asking a question. How many of you love
getting presents at Christmas time? Well you guys know that Christmas is not the only
holiday right? Then go from there.
How will you start the lesson to engage and motivate students in learning? I will
continue to bring up the holidays that they love like Christmas, Halloween and
Valentines Day because they get presents and candy on these holidays.
What are your rules for the lesson? When I am speaking I need the students to
be using their good listening ears so that when it is time to apply what we learned they
have got it.

Instruction: _______20___ Minutes

Make sure to include your steps of how you will instruct. For example,
First, I willthen, we will, then the will, etc. Make sure to think about modeling,
guided practice, collaborative practice and independent practice.

My instruction will be given as whole group. First the students and I will talk aloud about all of
the holidays that they already know and love. Then I will start to break it down that those are not
the only holidays out there. ( for those students who dont like school I can mention how we
miss school for holidays). I will describe the holidays and show the kids pictures and potentially
songs that could go along with the particular holiday. After I explain to the students about the
different holidays, I will give them a playful worksheet to see how much they picked up on what I
was trying to teach them. Depending on how the worksheets go I will either explain more or
move onto the informal assessment.

Closure: _____5_____ Minutes

How will you end the lesson?

I will end the lesson by reminding the students of everything we just talked about and
learned. I will briefly go back over all of the fun holidays that we talked about.
