IMPORTANT: This article only applies to specific products and/or operating systems. Please

Follow these troubleshooting instructions if you are unable to charge the Walkman player using the
USB cradle connected to a computer.

Contamination on the terminals may cause the connection failed.

Please make sure to keep the terminals clean. If Walkman terminal is dirty, clean the terminals using
the soft bristle toothbrush (moisturized by water). Brush the terminals as gently, otherwise it may
cause scratch on the cabinet.

After brushing, rinse it off with fresh water, wipe away the water on the Walkman using a soft cloth or
cotton bud, and then leave the Walkman in a well-ventilated shady place to dry.

IMPORTANT:

o Do not dry the Walkman using hot air from a hair dryer.
o The cradle is not waterproof. Please do not wet the cradle.
Your Walkman is not properly attached to the supplied USB cradle.

Attach your Walkman to the supplied USB cradle properly and firmly. Charging will start (the OPR lamp
lights up in red) even if the connection was not made properly, but there is a possibility that the
computer has not recognizedthe Walkman. In such a case, remove the Walkman from the supplied
USB cradle and then attach to the supplied USB cradle again. Please check the following:

o Make sure the terminals of your Walkman is clean.


o Attach your Walkman to the supplied USB cradle.
Make sure the terminals of your Walkman (1) and the supplied USB cradle (3) are in
contact with each other.
o Connect the USB plug of the supplied USB cradle to an operating computer.
Charging starts. Make sure the OPR lamp window (4) on the supplied USB cradle lights
up in red.
o If the Walkman player is still not recognized and it is connected to a USB hub,
disconnect it and connect it directly to the computer.
o If the Walkman is still not recognized, try a different USB port on the computer or a
different computer.

If you have followed the steps above and the OPR lamp does not light up to indicate that the Walkman
is charging, service may be required.

If the OPR light comes on as it should, but the computer does not recognize the Walkman player to
allow you to transfer music, check the following:

IMPORTANT:

If the New Hardware Wizard appears and is prompting for a location of the driver,
point to the following directory: C:/WINDOWS/INF.
When you use the Walkman player for the first time, if you have not used it for a long
time, or the battery is depleted, it may take up to 5 minutes for it to be recognized or
start charging. If it the Walkman player is not recognized or does not begin
to charge after waiting 5 minutes, reset the player by pressing the reset button.
1. Disconnect the Walkman from the computer, restart the computer. Once the computer has
finished restarting, connect the Walkman to the computer again check to see if it is
now recognized by the computer.
2. If the Walkman is still not recognized, press the RESET button located on the Walkman player
with a thin object such as a paper clip.
3. If the Walkman player is still not recognized and is connected to a USB hub, disconnect it and
connect it directly to the computer.
4. If the Walkman is still not recognized, try a different USB port on the computer

What Does This Do?

This utility updates the Walkman player to firmware version 1.10 to provide support for the M3U (.m3u file extension)
playlist format used to store multimedia playlists.

IMPORTANT: This file is only for use with the models identified. Not all models are sold in all countries.

Applicable Models

This firmware update is intended for the NWZ-W273 Walkman players that have firmware version 1.00
installed. To check the model and firmware version of your player, please follow the steps below.

Note: This update is not necessary if your Walkman player has already been updated by the automatic firmware
update function to version 1.10.

1. Connect the Walkman player to your computer using the supplied USB cradle.
2. On your computer, navigate to the "WALKMAN" folder.
3. Locate and open the "information.txt" file to display the Walkman player model name,
memory capacity, and the firmware version.

If the version number is 1.10 or higher, this update utility is not necessary.

Important Notes
o It is strongly recommended that you transfer all tracks and data from the player to the
computer before performing this update. Tracks and data that remain on the player may be
damaged or deleted during the update process.
o In order to install this update, there must be at least 50 MB of free space on the
player.
Please follow the steps below to check the amount of free space on the player:
a. Connect the Walkman player to your computer using the supplied USB cradle.
b. On your computer, navigate to the "WALKMAN" folder.
c. Locate and open the "information.txt" file to display the Walkman player memory
capacity. Ensure that at least 50 MB of free space is available. You may need to delete some
songs, unnecessary data, or transfer some data or songs back to the computer to increase
free space.
o During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a
user with Administrative rights.
o If you are using Windows 8, Windows 7 or Vista operating system, a User Account Control
dialog box may be displayed. Click "Continue" or "Yes" to proceed.
o To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all
other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
o It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during
the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions


1. It is strongly recommended that you transfer all tracks and data from the player to the
computer before performing this update. Tracks and data that remain on the player may be
damaged or deleted during the update process.
2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation on the computer, save all
work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before
proceeding.
3. Click "Download Now" to begin the download process.
4. Read the Software Download License Agreement and, if you agree, click "Accept
Agreement".
5. Download the NWZ-W270_V1_10.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note
this directory for reference).
6. Connect your Walkman player to your computer using the supplied USB cradle.
7. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the NWZ-
W270_V1_10.exe file to begin the installation.
8. Carefully follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the player from the computer while the update is in
progress.
Note: During the update process the USB connection is automatically controlled and the
"Connecting" indication is off. The USB disconnect message may be displayed on the computer.
This is normal.
9. When the update complete message is displayed, click the "Finish" button.
10. Disconnect the Walkman player from the USB cradle once the update is complete.
Note: If you transfer a playlist after performing the update without first disconnecting the USB
cradle, the playlist may become invalid. If your playlist becomes invalid, delete the playlist and
perform the transfer again.

Confirm Successful Update (optional)


1. Connect the Walkman player to your computer using the supplied USB cradle.
2. On your computer, navigate to the "WALKMAN" folder.
3. Locate and open the "information.txt" file.
4. If the version number is 1.10, the update is successfully installed.

HOW TO UPDATE ?

To install this software, log on to your computer as an administrator. You must also log on with the user name
"Administrators" or "Power Users" to use the Content Transfer Version 1.3 software.

DOWNLOAD

Please follow the steps below to download the Content Transfer Installer.

1. Connect to the Internet.


2. Create a folder named "CT1.3_dl" on the C drive of your computer to store the downloaded file.
3. Before downloading accept the terms and conditions at the end of this page.
4. Download the following file in the folder created at Step2.
ContentTransferInstaller-v13.exe 57.8 MB (60,696,384 bytes)

Note: Do not make the system go into suspend, sleep, or hibernation mode during the download.
INSTALLATION

Once the download of "ContentTransferInstaller-v13.exe" is completed, please follow the steps below to install the Content
Transfer Version 1.3 on your computer

1. Quit all software.


2. Confirm the PC is connected to the Internet. "ContentTransferInstaller-v13.exe" will download the
files necessary for your PC. Your personal information will not be sent to the server during the files
download.
3. Click Start on the task tray and click Run... * Then the dialog box Run will appear.
4. Input C:\CT1.3_dl\ContentTransferInstaller-v13.exe and click OK.
5. The Content Transfer Version 1.3 installer window will appear on screen.
6. Follow the on screen instruction to complete installation.
7. Click Finish after the installation.
8. Check whether the installation is completed successfully.

For Windows Vista, and Windows 7, Click Start on the task tray and input C:\CT1.3_dl\ContentTransferInstaller-
v13.exe in the search box at bottom of the start menu.
