Q. 1 Find the ratio of the following:

(a) Speed of a cycle 15 km per hour to the speed of scooter 30 km per hour.

(b) 5 m to 10 km

(c) 50 paise to Rs 5
15 1
Ans. (a) Ratio of the speed of cycle to that of scooter=

(b) We know that 1 km = 1000 m,

In 10 Km we have = 10x1000m =10000m

(c) In Rs 1 we have 100 paise,

In 5 Rs we have =5 100=500 paise

50 1
Hence the required ratio = =

Q. 3 72% of 25 students are good in mathematics. How many are not good in mathematics?

Ans. We know that total of anything can be 100%

% of students good in maths +% of students not good in maths =100%

72+% of students not good in maths =100

% of students not good in maths =100-72=28%

28
Therefore numbers of students who are not good in maths are = 25 = 7
100

Hence 7 students are not good in maths

Q. 4 A football team won 10 matches out of the total number of matches they played. If their
win percentage was 40, then how many matches did they play in all?

60+30+% of people liking other games =100%

%of people liking other games =100-90=10%

Q. 5 A VCR and TV were bought for Rs 8,000 each. The shopkeeper made a loss of 4% on the
VCR and a profit of 8% on the TV. Find the gain or loss percent on the whole transaction.

Ans. Cost Price of T.V = Rs 8,000

Loss at the rate of 4% = 4% 8000

4
Loss at rate of 4% = 8000 = 320
100

Selling Price (S.P) of VCR = 8000-320

S.P= Rs 7680

Cost price of T.V = Rs 8000

Profit at the rate of 8% = 8% 8000

8
Profit at the rate of 8%= 8000 = 640
100

Selling Price (S.P) of T.V = Rs 8000+640 = Rs 8640

Total Selling Price = S.P of VCR +S.P of T.V

=Rs 16320

Total Cost Price = C.P of VCR+C.P of T.V

= 8000+8000

Ans. Total Marked Price = Marked of jeans + marked price of 2 shirts

= 1450 + 2x850 Rs

=Rs 1450 +1700

= Rs 3150
10
Discount at the rate of 10% = 10% 350 = 3150 = 315

(ii) The interest for the 3rd year.

Ans. (i) Principal P = Amount to be invested = Rs 8,000

Rate of interest = 5% per annum

Time n = 2 years

5 2 21 21
= 8000 1 + = 8000 = 8820

(ii) The interest for third year, can be calculated by taking Rs 8,820 as principal, the
S.I. for the next year will be calculated.

Q. 8 Find the amount and the compound interest on Rs 10,000 for 1 years at 10% per
2
annum, compounded half yearly. Would this interest be more than the interest he
would get if it was compounded annually?

Ans. Principal P = Rs 10,000

Rate of interest = 10% per annum = 5% per half year

1
Time n = 1 years
2

1
There will be 3 half years 1 in years.
2

5 3 21 21 21
= 10000 1 + = 10000 = 11576.25
100 20 20 20

C.I. = A P

= Rs 11576.25 Rs 10000 = Rs 1,576.25

This calculation will be done in two parts

i) Amount for 1 years will be calculated and

ii) For remaining 6 months we will calculate simple interest on the amount
obtained at the end of 1 years

The amount for the first year has to be calculated first.

10 11
= 10000 1 + = 10000 = 11000
100 10

1
By taking Rs 11,000 as the principal, the S.I. for the next year will be calculated.
2

11000 101
. = = 550
1002

Interest for the first year = Rs 11000 Rs 10000 = Rs 1,000

Total compound interest = Rs 1000 + Rs 550 = Rs 1,550

Therefore, Interest compounded half- yearly is more than that compounded annually

Q. 9 Find the amount which Ram will get on Rs 4,096, he gave it for 18 months at 12 % per
2
annum, interest being compounded half yearly.

Ans. Principal P = Rs 4,096

1 25
R = 12 % per annum = % per half year
2 4

Time n = 18 months

There are 3 half years in 18 months.

Therefore,

25 3
= 4096 1 +
4100

1 3
= 4096 1 +
16

17 17 17
= 4096
16 16 16

Thus, the required amount is Rs 4,913.

Q. 10 The population of a place increased to 54000 in 2003 at a rate of 5% per annum

(i) Find the population in 2001

(ii) What would be its population in 2005?

Ans. (i) population in the year 2003 = 54,000

(ii) let the population in 2001 be x

Therefore,

5 2
54000 = x1 +

20 20
X=54000 = 48979.59

Thus, the population in the year 2001 was approximately 48,980.

1 2 21 21
=54000 1 + = 54000 = 59,535

Thus, the population in the year 2005 would be 59,535.

Q. 11 In a laboratory, the count of bacteria in a certain experiment was increasing at the rate of 2.5%
per hour. Find the bacteria at the end of 2 hours if the count was initially 5, 06,000.

Ans. Initial count of bacteria = 5, 06,000.

Q. 12 A scooter was bought at Rs 42,000. Its value depreciated at the rate of 8% per annum.
Find its value after one year.

Ans. Principal P = Cost price of the scooter = Rs 42,000

Depreciation @ of 8% of Rs 42,000 per year

= 3,360

Value of scooter after 1 year = Rs 42000 Rs 3360 = Rs 38,640
