20 Useful Tips when Costing for a Deal Packaging &

Know your Costs Know your Profits

1. Training Courses Fees for training courses. Usually ranging from


FREE to 3,000+ Trainers to note:

2. Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance - Expect to


pay 500+. If not insured expect to pay a lot more if you get sued or
things go wrong!

3. Accountants & Bookkeepers - This is a business like any other. You


will need to report financially to the authorities.

4. Employee Cost's - Any staffing costs plus National Insurance


contributions.

5. Registration with a Property Ombudsman Scheme - 3 in the UK.

6. Legal & Professional Advice - Please seek professional & legal


advice. It cost's, but try not getting proper advice, that really cost's! Your
neighbour and the guy down the pub give out free opinions (like me) but
bite the bullet now and be safe and prosperous with a professional
opinion. Plus you can sue them - if you're wrongly advised!

7. Non Payments from Clients - Contracts must be water tight, or,


expect non payments from clients.

8. Professional Fee's - Charges of Mentors, Advisors, and Professional


Associations.

9. Administration Cost's - Business cards, stationary, printers, printer


ink, phone costs, computer costs, laptops and tablets, wifi, plus associated
costs of running a company.

10. Tax & Tax Advisors - You will be subject to usual taxes that apply
and may require help.

11. The Information Commission Office - This office helps to control


how personal information is used by organisations with regards to the

Data Protection Act 1998. 400,000 are on the register and they charge
35 or 500 if you turnover more than 25.9m!

12. Magazines, Books & Publication Subscriptions - Your monthly


magazine subscriptions, audible account and book club all add up. Your
business will need to recoup all outgoing cost's in sales or tax returns.

13. Travel & Subsistence - Use your car in your business? Travel by
public transport? Make an overnight stay for a viewing or a course? It
needs to be costed on your Profit and Loss account. Keep those receipts
people!

14. Business Premises - Premises, seminars and events held by you, or


home office cost's. Gas, electric, maintenance that occur may impact on
any profits, but, proportions may be claimed on tax returns.

15. Fines - Register with HMRC to avoid any problems with money
laundering. You could be fined or worse sent to prison. Likewise, avoid
tolls and parking problems.

16. PA's, VA's & Virtual Staff - These can be cheaper alternatives to
traditional employment and can be essential to keeping cost's to a
minimum.

17. Marketing & Advertising - This style of business is often said to be


a sales & marketing exercise with all its associated costs.

Emails
Automated Online Sales Systems

18. Business Bank Account Charges - The cost of running a business


bank account and any loans must be calculated for. Even FREE banking for
12 - 18 months from Santander eventually comes to an end and then
starts at 7.50 per month minimum with other charges ranging from 10
to 25 per transaction (agreed in advance).

19. Your Time & Effort & Your Salary - Sales minus cost's normally
equal your earnings. Everyone will have a cost v reward ratio that will be
different for each individual. You will say to yourself at some point "was it
worth it?" Only you will have that answer.

20. Other Cost's and Contingencies - Allow for unforeseen cost's.


Foresight is a wonderful thing or is that hindsight? Either way-allocate
some additional money for possible cost's not mentioned here. Good luck
