"First of all, let us praise to the Almighty GOD, because of His

Blessing we are able to attend this English speech contest. Secondly,

may peace be upon the prophet GOD who has guided us from the
darkness into the
brightness. I would also like to say many thanks to the juries and MC
who have given me opportunity to deliver an English speech in front
of you all.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The title of my speech is Save Our Earth; Save Our Forest.
As we know, people from all over the world always commemorate
Earth Day every 22nd April.
The idea of earth day is based on the awareness to save this
world from the environmental destruction. It aims at making global
movements to participate actively in saving our earth the only
planet in which we live.
Our country, Indonesia, which is known as the emerald of equator,
has an important role to keep the balance of world ecological system.
63 percent (or 1,134,000 km2) of our land territory is still as a forest.
Meanwhile, the water area is more than 317,000,000 km2. 17 percent
of world plant and animal species live in Indonesia.
Our planet is in trouble !!! Almost everyday we seem to hear another
problem affecting the earth such as pollution, waste, rainforest
(deforestation), green house effect and many else.
Nowadays, most of us know that these threats exist and that human
have caused them. So, what can we do with this condition? Many of
us are very worried about the future of our planet and unless we can
find a way of solving the problems we have made then the earth will
suffer even more.
It all sounds so sad, but we certainly mustnt despair! Every of us,
whatever age we are, can do something to help our planet. As
populations grow and lifestyle change, we must keep the world in a
good condition, so that the future generations will have the same
natural resources that we have.
Alright, for the first lets take a look at waste. We, humans, create
such a lot of rubbish. We now produce just under a half ton per
person each year (U.K Governments data). You can imagine how
many rubbish will produce by the population today. Its so awful to
cover this earth with rubbish. Now, I ask you a question, is all our
rubbish really rubbish? If you think about it, much of what we throw
away could be used again. As we know that there are two kinds of
rubbish, organic and anorganic. The organic can be destroyet easily.
We can make a compost from it, and its a good natural ferlilizer. And
the anorganic, such as aluminium cans, glass bottles, plastic, etc
cant be destroyed. We have to recycle it for a new things. It means
we saved the natural resources using.
Now for the second point is pollution. It happened in many different
ways. Air is damaged by vehicles and factories fumes. Water is
polluted by waste, detergen and chemicals. This pollution affects the
health of living. A simple action that we can do for this problem such
as use a bicycle or walk instead of using a car for a short trips. We
also can use environmentally friendly products.
The third point is rainforest (deforestation). Rainforest are valuable
things. It is a habitat of a half species of animals and plants.
Thousands of rainforest plants contain substance that can be used in
medicines. Not only that, it also contribute to provide the oxygen and
regulate the worlds climate. Yet despite their value, an area of
rainforest is destroyed every year, and this is called deforestation.
One and a half acres are cleared every second (U.K Governments
data). You can imagine how many trees are cut down. As
consequence, it often invites a disaster such as eroding and others.
We have to stop deforestation. We need to protect our valuable
assets. Do not use too many tropical hardwoods and do reforestation
in the empty land.
Finally, the last point is green house effect. Certain gases in the
atmosphere, mainly carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and
fluorocarbons, act like the glass in a green house, allowing sunlight
throught to heat the earths surface but trapping some of the heat as it
radiates back into space. Without this, the earth would be frozen and
lifeless. However, owning Mans activities, green house gases are
building up in the atmosphere, causing a greater amount of heat to be
reflected back to earth. The result is an increase in average world
temperatures and is already causing more droughts, flooding and
extreme weather condition such hurricanes. We can prevent this
condition, start to reduce the pollution, recycle as much as waste you
can, and keep our forest.
So, what are you waiting for? Do what you can do today. Start from a
little things. Dont waste time, our earth need our help. Save our earth
means we saved our future !!!

It indicates that the ecosystem and environmental condition in

Indonesia will affect the world. In other words, the environmental
damage in Indonesia will influence the sustainability of world
environment.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

One of the causes of environmental damage is deforestation, or
known as the destruction of forest. The deforestation has caused
many disasters in this world, including Indonesia. Floods,
earthquakes and landslides are examples of killing disasters which
make us realize that the existence of forest is very important.
In Addition, another effect of deforestation is related with the global
warming or the increase of global surface temperature which is
mainly caused by the green house effects.
We all know, one of the most crucial issues in celebrating
Earth Day is the global warming. It warns us that our earth is in
danger and we should participate actively to take care of our
environment.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The question is, what is the relationship between Earth Day, global
warming, deforestation, and Indonesia?
Indonesia lies in the equator, between the Tropics of Cancer and
Capricorn
Because of its location, Indonesia is rich of rainforests. Scientists
state that the function of rainforests is as the lungs of the world. They
absorb greenhouse gas emissions, turn carbon dioxide (CO2) into
oxygen (O2).
It means that if deforestation keeps going on, the greenhouse effects
can not be reduced and finally the global warming will keep
increasing.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We live in the same world; in this earth. The importance of saving our
environment, especially our rainforests, is the need for all of us, for
human being to survive. It is not only for us, but also for our next
generation. USE ALTERNATIVE FUELS, SAVE PLANET EARTH We are
all aware of the current state of our environment. Mother Earth is on
the brink of total destruction brought about by pollution, irresponsible
use of resources, and the excessive use of conventional fuel such as
fossil fuel and nuclear energy

There are many simple activities that we can do in order to participate

in saving our earth. Here are some examples:
1. Stop deforestation and do reforestation movement
2. Reduce fuel consumption
3. Use environmentally friendly products
4. Reduce the use / purchase of goods made of plastic because
almost all of
plastic waste will produce harmful gases when burned and can
pollute the environment.
5. Be efficient in the use of water and electrical energy consumption
6. Reduce the use of materials containing aerosols
7. Join and participate in environmental campaigns, such as Earth
Day, Save Our Earth and Stop Global Warming.
How to we save the earth Our planet is in great danger.
The people of earth have wasted and misused the natural recourses
of earth. Several plans have been developed to stop the abuse of
earth.Environmental problems have become so complex that many
individuals feel they can have no effect on them.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I think thats all my speech. Hopefully it will be useful for all of us.
Thank you very much for your attention."
