Standards Addressed: MGSE1.MD.4 Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three
categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each
category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.

Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the
platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.

Description of how to implement in the class: The class will take a count on how many
children like what color. As the teacher we will ask which students like red to raise their hand
and record this number on an anchor chart. This will continue on through all of the colors. The
class will then be directed to get on the computers where NCES Create-A-Graph will already be
opened for them. All students will begin by creating a bar graph. The students will be directed to add
Our Favorite Colors to the graph name. As well as colors to the x-axis and number of students to the
y-axis. The students will then fill in the data that we retrieved from our class. After all data is entered
the students will preview their graph.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): LoTi Level 3. They are using real data that they have
collected to create a graph that could be read and understood by someone outside of the classroom.

Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *: The graph shown is a
sample graph similar to what the students will create. It can be as creative as they wish to
make it.
Other comments about your proposed spreadsheet/graph/chart activity: The students will be
able to use the same data that they already entered to explore the other types of graphs offered by
NCES Create-A-Graph
