Racial Equality

Dear Mr. President,

My name is Belen Altamirano and as a Mexican American I want to get one message out

there. It is something everyone is born knowing, but lose sight of it as they mature and are

influenced by others. We are all equal. A persons race should not determine how they are

treated in society or whether or not they will have a successful future. I hope this message

inspires a more united and equal future for everyone in this country no matter their color.

The issue I am talking about is based on race, ethnicity, and color. It doesnt just affect

those of color but it affects the ones judging them as well. I personally have witnessed how

those of color are either mistreated or not treated equally, and those who are mistreating them

lose their kindness. We are all children of God. A person doesnt choose their race so why

mistreat them over something they have no control over. The scope is this issue is grandglobal

evenso why not work to change that. Why not work towards a better future for our country

where people arent judged by their color, but by their character.

Even if this issue doesnt affect you personally, it is constantly around you. Racial

inequality causes conflict which can cause the unity of our country to be lost. This issue has the

power to throw the country into chaos which in the end would be your responsibility. Chaos

could be initiated by people rebelling and fighting for their rights. At the moment racial inequality

is a spark which has just ignited a fire that if not taken care of can burn and consume everything

in its path. The downfall of our country is not something you want to occur during your
presidency, nor in that of any future president to come, which is why I ask you to take action for

the future of the country.

Though this issue could have very drastic consequences that can be avoided. As the

president it is up to you to set the example for our country and take care of it. One way you can

work towards making a difference is by making the government more diverse with people of all

colors. Another way we can address this issue is by showing young people that color has

nothing to do with a persons character. According to pacer.org, 55% of students are bullied

because of their appearance. Stereotypes should not determine how people are treated or

viewed and people should not treat or view people based on stereotypes. Not all cops are bad.

Not all colored people are criminals. Not all white people are racist. This country needs so stop

judging and work together to make a change. As President you could encourage schools to

introduce equality and get rid of stereotypes and racism the way Michelle Obama introduced

exercise and play in schools for child obesity.

Although everyone deserves equality and no one should be discriminated because of

their color, there are still those who disagree with this. Some people consider themselves

superior because of their color or race. As you know many people are brought up with that idea

that color and race and stereotypes determine what a person is like. One example of racial

inequality in shown in the type of people that get pulled over. According to dosomething.org,

Studies show that .... In New York City, 80% of the stops made were blacks and Latinos, and

85% of those people were frisked, compared to a mere 8% of white people stopped. This is just

one of many things that show how people are influenced by color. It is understandable that

some people would disagree with what I am saying but they should put themselves in the shoes

of a colored person being discriminated. If the roles were reversed wouldnt they too want

change. People have a choice to reject those of different races or to accept your diverse
country. Those who disagree with me should change their perspective and realise that this

change not only affects those of color but themselves as well. Living in a country full of

discrimination can separate the people and throw the country into chaos. Doesnt everyone has

the right to equality? Make a change.

I invite you, the next president of the United States of America, to take action and make

a change for the future of the country and for the rights of the people. (751)
